    Outside of slashdot not many people care that they're using Internet Explorer instead of Netscape. They just want it to be cheap, to be sure it connects to Facebook.

    I was going to write something like that as about the only thing I can think of that might impress a windows user - proper access to the processes which are running, real information about what's going on, etc.

    Then there's proper file systems that don't constantly tell you files "can't be deleted because...".

    Oh yeah, sed, awk and regex are going to convert Windows/Mac users to command line Linux.

    Not.

    Linux is for people who want to hack around and get to the guts of the OS because they're interested in that sort of thing. Everybody else is going to be too distracted by the fact that flash doesn't work properly.

    The status bar can be hidden with two mouse clicks. Were people really having so much trouble with the "View->Status bar" option that the devs needed to take matters into their own hands?

    Worse, they knew it was controversial and was going to piss off a lot of people but they did it anyway.

    Well rested and happy people are far more productive than tired and unhappy people.

    That depends more on the motivation than anything else. If you've really motivated to work then a 12-hour day is nothing.

    Unfortunately "motivation" means more than some team-building exercises and free pizza twice a week. If the boss can't give everybody cars and stuff then he's going to have to give away shares in the company or something (and the programmers are going to have to believe it's going to be a big success).

    Seriously, I can't see this 'rumor' being true. Most likely it's just some viral marketing crap to get horrified Apple fans posting the word "iPad" all over the Internet the week before it launches.

    Yep. If you're unemployed the correct attitude is to give *anything* a try. Anything at all.

    The reasons are:

    a) You can always quit

    b) It gets you out of the house to meet other people and make contacts (maybe the telemarketing bosses' computer needs fixing...)

    Nothing that's been said so far has made me rethink my original statement.

    The budget got out of control through small increments, small decrements are what's needed to get it back again.
