Yep. Win7 works fine but I don't see any real reason to upgrade.
I upgraded to Win7 to be able to compile/test 64-bit versions of my software. Basically though, I'm running the exact same software and doing the exact same things I used to do on XP.
If you're on XP, have 4Gb RAM and just do normal stuff then you're fine for quite a few years yet.
Most of the failures I see these days are due to fluff in the fans/heatsinks cooking the components. Remember to use the vacuum cleaner every once in a while and you should be ok.
(And even if you don't, most modern components seem to have thermal protection now so they tend to shut down/reboot rather than burn).
It's a pity no common image format or display device has more than 8 bits. We're way past the point in history where we should be using 16 bits for image storage and display (in fact we're probably reaching the point where it should all be floating point...)
Rest assured, the government isn't holding back. Those non-redundant Army servers already cost an order of magnitude more then everybody else's redundant servers.
a) More young people die on motorcycles than in Afghanistan.
b) Are we really helping these people by listening to their whining and telling them they're so special, that everybody should bend over backwards to make them feel better?
You want to do something to help? Stop moping around the house, set up a few anti-war protests and do whatever you can to get everybody else's sons out of there...
Maybe they should have a big fine for every patent which is later invalidated. Subtracted directly from the salary of the department boss where applicable.
ie. Their ratings aren't done by 14 year-olds on a scale from"sucks" to "awesome" (although they have included "user ratings" in the last few weeks, ack)
I'd have thought that the _problem_ is that the aircraft is broadcasting its position, not that somebody wrote an app to listen to the signal.
If some Android developer can figure out how to do it, so can anybody else.
But...go ahead, ban the app if it makes you feel better.
It was half-finished and rushed-out-for-Xmas. Lots of wrinkles still needed ironing out. eg. google for "vista slow file copy"

'cos that's gonna be one huge dataload.
No Treebeard reference...? Ents are scary!
Let's hope they used more than eight-bit color depth.

Just saying.
Yep. That was the point of F1's new "no refuelling" rule this year - fuel efficiency suddenly went right up the list of priorities.
There has to be a PHB behind this.
All those others are tracking you and making you a statistic except you don't know what evil companies they sell the info to.
To be fair, I spent those four minutes looking for the second link in my post...
I'm still waiting for the first cut. There's still a week to go and this is the second slashdot story on it...sheesh.
Here you go...
And here...

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/ is way better then IMDB for movie reviews

The best thing for IMDB to do would be to man up and accept everybody's home videos, right?
eg. A tenth of a G will get you up to that speed in less than two minutes (and in total comfort).
Not so long as they get paid per patent accepted they won't.
Yes, but what's the average speed of a TGV on a real journey with passenger cars attached...?
Yes ... but the average speed of the TGV on real journeys is a lot less - 279 km/h (173.6 mph) according to Wikipedia.
Do corporations accept personal responsibility?
No...?
So how can they possibly demand personal privacy?
Sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gander.
If you can't recompress it in real time then there's not much point in decrypting it in real time either. Just dump it to disk and process it later.
