I didn't mention Indian universities. I was questioning methods from various groups that think they can improve the quality of their software by cutting their software engineering budget. My comment was an about people who suggest true software engineers aren't worth very much. They're deriding the people with degrees from India as much as they're deriding me.
I remember being subject to a class called Data Structures & Algorithms, which was all about choosing the right data structures to efficiently handle a problem, and then calculating the efficiency of algorithms to make sure it works well when you throw a huge amount of data or cycles at it. I also seem to remember being subject to Computer Architecture, in which we were taught about the underlying structure of the computer to better understand the hardware before we try to write software for it. I wonder if they teach that in those call centers in India, or those single programming courses companies make people take when they're trying to cut out the cost of programmers altogether.
What's interesting here is they were able to shutdown an investigation into government corruption in the name of security. I guess it's not just for federal government anymore.
Well, if the drives handle sequential access well and random access not so well, and Windows puts new files in the first available space while Linux places the files in the middle of the largest area of blank space, then does that create the possibility that Windows will currently handle these drives better than Linux?
Is there a way to filter the RSS feed? The subdomain is always "rss". I'd like to be able to filter the subdomains "idle" and "books". And other things besides subdomains if possible.
It's not that anybody loves Internet Explorer. It's just that nobody outside of geekdom loves any browser at all. Arguing over browser popularity is like arguing over gas station popularity. Most people don't care, and don't see any real difference. They're just going to the first one they see.
They can't do that. It would make tons of websites just stop working. As an analogy, imagine what would happen if Microsoft got a bunch of people to follow an audio file format and then they just abandoned it. It would be disastrous for their supporters. Wait, what? Oh...
Or maybe it's Norton Antivirus scanning everything every time it's accessed, even mpeg files, before it lets you read the file. Maybe it's worth disabling the antivirus software for 15 minutes to see how that affects file transfer.
Don't be a retard. No one with 30 minutes of Quickbasic experience can write an application scanning paper ballots and perform optical recognition on them with any degree of accuracy.
And the people who write ATM software didn't do any better.
As long as we're being ridiculous, maybe they should sue the TV manufacturers for making screens so fragile. They'll be forced to make LCD panels out of the same glass used in windshields.
But they didn't set the price low. $10 for four hours is worse than those ring tones that cost $3 and then expire. Assuming games still cost about $50, you're paying 1/5 the cost of the game for something that lasts four hours.
I think, if anything, they're teaching people drug culture. You're paying for a nickel or dime bag that will give you a temporary performance boost. Then four hours later you're back to your old self except you don't have any money now.

Let's just hope they don't contract the work to the same people who make undersea internet cables.

What would really be cruel is making them listen to every iTunes free song of the week.

Maybe some ancient lawmakers managed to extend copyrights and patents to 1000 years...

Yes, we come with free iPods.
We've come to be your new estrogen-based overlords, and we're offering free iPods to the first 100 people who welcome us.*
You're never too old to be a fanboi...

She's not invisible. Just her plane is.
That sounds like Fedora 10 on my laptop right now...
GNU's Not Windows

Why would you want to get it from Google? Why would it matter who you get it from if they're all the same?

So they're basically doing the same thing they did with Android, and saying it's ready whether it's ready or not...?
Maybe you should post that on change.gov...
Oddly enough, that's one issue that wouldn't matter with solid state discs.

You deal with tourists at a regular base or are otherwise experienced in dealing with stupid people?
The second one.
