Starbucks is also selling a pleasantly decorated space where its coffee can be enjoyed while surfing the internet. Otherwise, they wouldn't have tables, just a bar in the Italian-style.
The similarity to WebOS is no coincidence since Matias Duarte was the chief designer at Palm before moving to Google. He even gave demos at the Pre/WebOS launch.
The 'government' doesn't spend down its reserves to make up a deficit. It would affect American companies' ability to trade and would possibly hurt the dollar.
My employer uses Exchange ActiveSync and will only wipe work-related information if the phone is stolen or if you are no longer employed there. Not sure why virtualizing a second instance of the OS would be more desirable to ActiveSync in most situations.
There are consequences for being an asshole. Card's opponents enjoy the same right to free speech that Card does and exercised those rights for calling for him to be pulled for the project. Ultimately, his publisher decided it didn't want to be associated with his asshole beliefs. Nothing controversial about that.
Microsoft would make a mistake by not providing some sort of native client for popular platforms. Accessing Office through a browser is fine for some but it requires a constant internet connection and can be less responsive than native code. If Microsoft forces iPad (and other tablet users) to use Office 365, they will be making a big usability sacrifice on behalf users that don't need or want it. Better to canibalize your own sales than to leave yourself exposed to competitors (ala iPod v. iPhone.)
What kind of content creation is not supported? There are text editors, word processors, video editors, sound editors and many other content creation apps available. The iPad may not be as efficient as bigger devices but it's certainly functional and often more convenient.
You're wrong. Microsoft hired a company to write Video for Windows, but that company used Quicktime for Windows code, so Apple considered suing Microsoft.
I take a couple issues with your assessment (though I agree with most of it).
The GS was supported for six years. From 1986 to 1992.
The original Mac was expandable. Several venders sold memory upfrades, and there were also hard drives that interfaced through the floppy drive port.
The SE/30 was very powerful, had a large hard drive and was inexpensive compared to comparable 386's.
The clones got great reviews from MacAddict, which usually rated them higher that Apple Macs for better value/performance.
I am a Newton user (MP130), and my favorite feature is being able to create ink outlines. No other PDA that I know of includes the functionality out of the box.
I bet these processors will be used in the Media Center PC's where noise and heat are a big issue, and performance is not. Nobody wants a constant hum coming from their av rack.
I already uploaded the images to my personal webspace at Comcast. The traffic threw out our cable connection, and crashed my server (I use it for the images and as my personal machines). Thankyou, though.
Has any attempt at spinning the OS actually worked? Newton, Palm and Symbian come to mind as previous failed attempts at doing the same thing.
The article does mention that it is only possible to connect to a hard-coded list of WiFi hotspots.

Yuck. You're right. My IT director lied to me. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124591.aspx
If it's work email, then it's not your information. I would rather not have work emails from jobs I no longer have on my device.

Is Google targeting the PDP-11 now?

Why would Apple bother to bribe a Slashdot contributor? That trope should die just on the basis of logic.
iPad apps don't have a single UI paradigm. I don't see why Metro wouldn't work fine for MS apps.
Not for iOS or Android. Symbian and Windows Phone are the only mobile platforms supported.

US Robotics bought Palm and released the Pilot. Months later, USR was acquired by 3COM.

It looks like this story was actually written by the MLAgazine editor.

Encarta used it in 1995. I kind of like it, it's easier to hit. I don't fly up into the title bar.
The images are served on a Windows 2000 box running Sambar. The OS X server was fine and speedy, the Win2000 box crashed and burned.

I'm the webmaster there. Does anyone have a mirror site that we can host the images off? My server is my home machine, a PII 266.
