Hmm, he must build in a few protections then to avoid unauthorised decryption.
Like a yes/no dialogue window with the text: do you have permission to decrypt this file?
And a warning that unauthorised decryption of files is illegal and punishable...(etc etc)
I don't believe they did any wrong. They even paid Fraunhofer, who were widely known as the owners of the mp3 patent. Not telling anyone that they own any mp3 patent and then jumping at the biggest user is simply evil.
This kind of abuse should be punished, even if it was not a pure software patent.
M$'s WMP is pure software, so if the patent isn't one, then they wouldn't infringe it!
The only good thing was in this that an american company was beaten american style.
This might lead to some patent reform.
If they don't ditch their DRM it will cost them their business, in 5 years. There will be more and more 'free' music available, with competitive quality, availability and amount. So they'll run out of business even without piracy. DRM just lets some pirates get rich during this transition.
Plus he broke into many computers (the majority of them were not doing any illegal activity).
So this 'vigilante' should have been punished as well, deducting the reward for outing the perverse judge.
I didn't really accept M$'s golden disk defense anyway. It smelled very fishy.
And somehow i couldn't believe that M$ argues against all software patents> If it really does and wins, it almost redeemed itself in my eyes.
If intelligent life forms had so much time to develop and find us, they are probably much more developed and masters of finding other intelligent life forms than us.
Also they are masters of hiding.
Humanity started to seriously look outside of its planet only in the last 100 years.
Once we are capable of finding them, they'll surely contact us:)
I just hope that the dominant intelligent life form in the galaxy is less violent and much more patient than humanity.
You can run out of stores where you buy just like you run out of parties to vote on.
Granted, there are fewer parties (especially in the US) than shops.
No, he bought a few computers which someone else had illegally preinstalled M$ stuff.
Had he used Linux, he would have erased the illegal M$ crap from the machines first.
Were the guy use GPL software in place of Windows, he might even get some free support from OSS enthusiasts.
It is not like he released modified GPL software without giving out the source.
That kind of behaviour is usually performed by small startups who cannot afford coders nor morale.
Penicillin was discovered similarly.
Anyway, there have been so many cancer drugs discovered in the last 5 years i still wonder cancer isn't declared extinct.
Maybe they just want cheap test subjects? What if the stuff isn't refined yet for military use but lacks funding?
...like in the star gate episode, i would rather not want to see all those extradimensional critters!
I just don't understand the following: the pulse/no pulse thing is itself a bit of information.
I thought vacuum means there is no material. Surely physics evolved beyond me :)
Sad, but true.
We are in the 21st century, anything changed?

But I guess they did sell machines with not-yet-existing Vista.
Novell sells SuseLinux which is openly 'pirated' and Novell likes it like that :P
Heh, even M$ buys it!
Hope this won't repeat the cycle.
More and more tools could connect to the internet, those are also porn portals???

Who cares?
Theoretically, they could build in some stuff that if the ship sees flying Windows on the radar, it unloads all of its weaponry at itself.
Well, you surely got some known holes now :)

So, shouldn't the gorilla shut up beating his chest and start peddling with Suse Linux licenses? Vista will kill Microsoft :)

Wait, it wasn't M$'s puppet organisation, the local BSA who sued the poor guy in the first place?

Haha, a real Antediluvian Troll...
Isn't Canada in the process of tightening its copyright law? This really sounds like pressure, i wonder why it was needed, the bribes didn't work?
