    Language does evolve. It is not because some
    stupid rules were adopted at one time that
    they should remain. People decide how they
    will speak and if they so choose the language
    changes and so will the rules.

    That rules of the gender choice is illogical
    and should be as we do in French and Spanish
    which is whatever sounds the best according
    to the way the words are spelled. A "table" is
    feminine while a "lit" is masculine.

    I should have used the expression "beer brewed for
    the American market". Manufacturers will produce
    products that they think people will buy.
    I would be surprised if the beer La Maudite
    sold in the US is the same as the one sold
    in Québec.

    One thing we should seriously think about
    importing from Québec is Poutine. Any of you
    who have never tasted this great food are missing
    a lot.

    The place where it's brewed doesn't make much
    difference. The stores here import Molson beer
    from Ontario but that beer sucks. It is made for
    the US and doesn't compare with the beer sold in
    Québec.
    I have never seen "La Maudite" beer here in
    Michigan. Which states has it and is it the
    same as the one sold in Québec?

    People here like weak beer and that is what

    This is a labor law violation. As an engineer
    working on salary I am free after hours. For
    people paid hourly the laws are clear that
    after 40 hours you must get overtime pay.

    Keep in mind though that people who sue
    their employer rarely get hired when new
    potential employers find out about it.
    You should look for another job if you can't
    convince your employer to treat you correctly.

    Bringing lawyers into this may just hurt
    your future employment. Most employers will
    have nothing to do with employees who sue
    their employer.

    In college in the 60s we were still using
    vacuum tubes. I would guess that your
    cellular telephone would be a little
    hard to carry. You forgot that part
    in your text.

    An other issue would be cost. I don't
    think anyone in the general public would
    have been able to afford it. For one thing
    the persons who would be willing to carry
    those around would have to be morons and
    the numbers would have been relatively
    small thus a very high cost.

    In the early 80s when the electronic started
    to be smaller for those transmitter/receivers
    the cost was still very high.

    Win XP isn't out yet. Once it's out you'll
    see a rebirth of the slowed down PC industry
    as people will have to buy new computers more
    often.
    Win XP, the ideal bloated OS + forced obsolescence. Considering that most people
    think that they get a free os with a computer,
    when the video card or hard disk dies they'll
    buy a new PC to get a new license of Win XP.

    This is bullshit. Million of people have satellite
    receivers and you have to plug it to the phone
    to keep your service and we have pay per view.

    The problem with divx is that the CDs wouldn't
    work unless you pay extra. When I buy a tape
    or a CD it is to keep it and watch it again.
    This is why I refused to buy divx and perhaps
    the same reason a lot of other Americans choose
    not to buy them.

    Why should you always look for a complex
    solution to a problem. Most of the time
    in life simple solutions are what is needed.
    Ask any programmer looking for bugs. Very often
    he'd be looking for big bugs when the bug
    was a wrong bit or a wrong byte.

    Here the problem is very obvious but you
    go past it without realizing that it is
    the same thing. Just removing your winblows
    and installing something good like Linux will
    fix all your nightmares about Microsoft bringing
    you in the poor house.

    I have yet to see any practical advantage of
    winblows over Linux.

    This is not quite the same. SuSE is well
    established and those who are familiar with
    SuSE are willing to pay what is necessary
    to get it.

    This place (which I've never heard of before)
    is shooting themselves in the feet as virtually
    no one has had an opportunity to check them
    out. No one in his or her right mind is going
    to put $15 out for something that it's not even
    sure to work when you can get something that
    works for $1.99 at Cheapbytes or go to Walmart
    or Staples and get a distribution with books
    for $25

    Another way that companies use is to encode
    with the serial number of drive C:

    Lattice is one.

    Borland seems to be doing something like
    that for the Delphi try out.

    If Microsoft use this then when you format
    the drive it would be kind of hard to get
    the same code.

    You are correct in assuming that I won't be using Office xxxx in 5 years time. The odds that I get get drunk enough to boot winblows and run Office are rather low. Even if I did try I would have a problem since I have never been stupid enough to buy it. The reality behind program subscriptions is that it is a scheme to screw us big time. And if you think that at any time in the future that Linux would be for rent only, you must have sniffed some flour.

    Considering that Linux isn't likely to be
    available by subcription until hell freezes

    BECAUSE IT DIDN'T SUPPORT MY CAPS LOCK KEY
    There is a key on the right side of the keyboard that says NumLock. What is wrong with using that?
    To give up an OS because it doesn't seem to support some obnoxious script is baffling to say the least.
    Unless you're plagued with an AZERTY keyboard I don't see much use to have that damm NumLock forced on you on boot.

    I tried Mandrake and got pissed at its winblows
    "The user is a moron" mode. There are some
    moronic setups which are not that simple to
    get rid off. If they would document all the
    hidden bullshit it would make it usefull.
    Take the numlock shit they came out with in
    version 5.3. It took a while to figure out
    the offending script that was forcing the
    numlock on on every login despite the fact that
    it was clear in the bios that the goddam numlock
    was to be turned off.
    Now they have a "smart hardware identification"
    on boot. What if I don't want the damm thing
    to look for changes in my hardware everytime it
    boots? If I'd wanted a crawling boot I would
    have installed winblows.

    I switched to SuSE with no regret.
    I haven't seen anything yet that is as nice
    to setup as SuSE 7.0 Professional.

    Back in the early 70s I was living in Toronto
    (Canada) and was forced to give my bank account
    number to get cable TV. In that part of the Great
    White North there was no other way to get cable
    from Rogers Cable. What I did was to open an
    account and just kept a few dollars in it, not
    enough to cover the cable bill and I always got
    a bill in the mail, something that they flatly
    refused to do normally. This was apparently an
    automatic letter for such cases.

    One thing I will never allow is for some damm
    company to dig out of my bank account for any
    reason.

    To say that we are backward for no having this
    kind of bullshit widespread is ridiculous. Here
    we just cherish our freedom more that many other
    countries.

    to get someone less prone to empty your
    pockets. When is the next legislative elections?

    In our state we have a republican governor. (Michigan)
    Republicans always campaign against taxes but
    our governor is one of the biggest promoter of
    an internet tax as are most of the republican
    governors.

    I think that if it was up to the republicans
    they would replace the income tax with a stiff
    VAT on virtually everything which would screw
    everyone who have to spend most or a large
    part of their income.

    Republicans are for tax cuts for themselves and
    that's it. I wouldn't be surprising to find
    some interesting taxes like yours around here
    eventually.

    Do like my wife did, find yourself a French
    speaking friend and you shall learn the language
    rather quickly.

    My wife was fluent in French in less than
    a year.

    It worked well for me too, my english is
    almost as good as that of anyone from Texas
    or Louisiana.

    The french you learn in Montreal is not actually french, its franglais.
    The Quebecois version of french is so full of slang and poor everything that it is convievable
    they would be missunderstood by someone from France. Trust me, I live accros the river from
    them.
    A good advice to you would be that in the future you think before you say anything so you wouldn't
    look as stupid as you do now.
    For one thing there is less english used in the French spoken in Canada and here in the US
    than there is in the French spoken in Europe. One other fact is that the French in America
    has not changed nearly as much over the years as the European French has changed.
    What may give problems for European French would be the accent, but then again when
    you go from Paris to Marseille it's like changing country.
    An American has more chances of coming in contact with French Canadians or Franco Americans than
    with European French who only come to the US to bitch about how much they hate us Americans.
    Europeans French hate Americans while French Canadians prefer Americans to anglo canucks.
    When times come for vacations one would be considered a moron if he considered vacationing
    in english Canada instead of the US.
    When time came to join the Free Trade with the US, Québec supported it and the rest of Canada
    opposed it. It was amusing to see the results of the election on anglo and French Canadian TV. It looked
    like a funeral on anglo TV and a victory party on French Canadian TV.

    english in the world is that of the US,
    the southern US to be more acurate.
