  1. You forgot a few details in your Canuck election on Microsoft, Unisys & Dell To Make New Voting System · · Score: 1

    You are witnessing someone voting for the third
    or fourth times because you happened to have
    a good eye and can see father than the
    table that you are working at.

    You complain to the supervisor who tells you
    that you are not allowed to question the
    honesty of a voter who has just sworn on his
    honor that this is his only vote.
    The same guy is back within an hour or two
    at another table and when you complain again
    you are told that at the next outburst you will
    be expelled.

    Now you see a neighbor that you know is a refugee
    come to the table. During the revising of the
    list his name was removed since he has just
    arrived a few months before in some container.
    The law allows him to register on the day of
    the election. All he needs is to swear that he
    is a citizen and perhaps an ID proving that his
    face is the same as the one on his fake ID.
    He votes. He can go in the next table or county
    later on and vote again.

    Yes I have worked many times in canuck elections
    and have witness a lot of shit of the kind.
    There was even an empty high rise every one
    not living in the said building voted. Then
    there were cemeteries.

    Fraud is just as bad in Canada as it is in the
    USA. It is just done in different ways.

    The only way around this bullshit would be
    to identify you with a finger print or eye print
    not use winblows as the platform for any voting
    machine.

    Unless you live in Toronto or Montréal and appear to own something.
    Unless you're a taxi cab driver and someone in need for cash is close by.
    We don't NEED to fear being shot by some asshole on the freeway because he's in a pissy mood.
    Machettes or hunting knifes in buses, taxi cabs or dépanneurs work just as good and are less noisy.
    Seems we don't need most of the draconian measures that you fine Americans need. Since we don't feel the need to beat the shit out of / kill our neibours like you americans seem to have,
    unless you're an anglo and he's a French Canadian in a bar Tillsonburg and he is talking to an anglo girl.
    Oh my GOD Ottawa just recorded it's 6th homicide on Dec 29th
    who is likely to get a suspended sentence with plenty of welfare money so he doesn't have to steal to pay for his drug Taxes are coming down REAL BEER! 3%, not too many beers with that.
    Taxes are still a little high
    Just the sales tax is around 15% on goods and services. That ain't coming down anytime soon.

    That browser that was such a piece of shit but
    I always accidently installed it for some reason
    or another and then reached for a shot gun but
    at the end decided that uninstalling it was the
    best approach.

    applications and now we have another moron
    who think there are too many.

    To show Corel as an example to follow shows
    a bigger moron considering the that the
    install program is some sort of Trojan Horse.

    I buy SuSE because they have a lot of stuff and
    have a great distribution.

    As for Corel I made the mistake of trying it
    and had to restore a trashed 14G hard disk that
    had SuSE and OS/2 on it.

    I've used their V25 debugger before but
    where the heck is a Linux version of any
    of their debuggers?
    I've never seen any Linux or Unix version
    of their debuggers.

    As for the V25 debugger I've used, it seemed
    a derivative of Borland turbo debugger and
    only runs on dos.

    C is great, so is C++
    C++ has some great features which can
    solve hours of work. It may get bloated
    sometime if you don't have a good
    optimizer but it is nonetheless a very good
    language.

    Use what you like and leave the rest of
    the world who love C++ alone.

    Not true, a majority of Americans including
    democrats want to live in a democracy
    and that implies no Electoral College
    except to break a tie. I think that in that
    case the new elected congress (not senate)
    should elect the president in case of a tie.
    We should also do away with the senate and
    add extra congress seats for supporter of
    the Green, Reform or any other third parties.
    We have governors to represent the states, we
    don't need senators.

    We then would have a true democracy.

    We look like morons when we try to tell
    everyone else in the world that they should
    live in a democracy when we don't live in
    one.

    Polititians of both major party wants the
    status quo because there is always a chance
    that it would favor them as long as they can
    secure key states.

    I'm not convinced that Alzheimer causes the
    brain cells to die. My dad died of Alzheimer
    and my own experience with him shows something
    else. Whenever I would touch his hands he
    would come back to reality and just as sharp
    and intelligent as ever. My impression was that
    the electrical connections from his memory cells
    to his brain weren't being made not that the
    cells were dead or dying.
    Just think of your computer with the traces
    to the microprocessor cut, would that imply
    that the memory sims are dead?

    I don't see English as becoming the only
    language on the net anytime soon.
    Lotsa languages are used on the net. It is not
    because english is used by people who don't
    speak each other's language to communicate with
    each other that English is likely replace those
    languages.
    French, Italian, Portuguese, Catalan and Spanish
    for instance are much more pleasant languages to
    use than english so it would be illogical to
    switch to english for everyday use.

    It sure would be a boring world if we all looked
    alike and spoke all the same language.

    We can find SuSE here in the stores but not
    everyone carries SuSE. I have to drive 75 miles
    to the Grand Rapids CompUSA to find it.
    The local Walmart only carries Mandrake Linux
    and Staples carries Mandrake, Corel, RedHat,
    FreeBSD and Open Linux.

    Since I found that www.chumbo.com always
    carry it I don't bother with the local store.

    I tried it by curiosity after reading a few
    German posts and I think that if more people
    in the US knew about SuSE, it could very well
    outsell all the other Linux distributions.

    The only problem I had in the past with SuSE
    was it's poor support of French which is now
    excellent and as good if not better than
    Mandrake's, without the frequent core dumps.
    What is lacking in SuSE is a better support of
    Gnome which I think is far superior to KDE.

    The internal clock of the 6502 was either 1Mhz
    or 2Mhz.
    I don't remember the divider, either 2 or 4 which
    means the xtal was either 2Mhz or 4Mhz. Often
    like with the COSMAC a TV 3.58Mhz xtal was used
    because of it's lower cost.
    The Z80 has been used in different speeds
    depending on the computer. Originally it
    was 4Mhz.

    I remember when I worked at the World Trade Center
    that our system that we install at Merril Lynch
    beat the crap out of the PC XT in speed. It was
    a ZCPR system with a Z80 (Clone of CPM/80)

    Today you can find CMOS Z80 at 10Mhz. There
    are parts that run Z80 code and more like the
    rabbit and the Z180.

    You need to wake up to reality. Most engineering
    firms work this way :

    There are several level of management, usually
    made of morons as is well described in the
    Dilbert cartoons.

    The engineers are assigned projects which
    deadlines are usually based on dreams or
    idiotic ideas on how long a project is supposed
    to take. It turns out that in most cases projects
    are not delivered on time unless a lot of overtime
    is done. Since the companies that pay for overtime
    are extremmely rare it turns out that for most
    people this is unpaid overtime.

    A good experience programmer knows that the
    company can't get rid of him or her easily
    or dictate the number of unpaid overtime hours
    that he or she ought to do.

    Take an engineer on one of those temporary visas.
    It is nearly impossible to say no. The alternative
    is scary for those people. They are in a foreign
    land with nowhere to go. They must stay at the
    company they work at or may suffer certain
    penalities. What happens then is that the
    temporary worker could end up working 80 to 90
    hours for the price of 40 or 45 hours.

    How can a normal immigrant or citizen of this
    great country compete against that?

    Next time you think of coming up with bullshit
    like your dumb defense of the ill conceived
    immigration bill, talk to real engineers who
    have known the engineering work place in the
    US so you won't look as stupid as you did.

    I have nearly 20 years experience in engineering
    and I am seen by most companies as "over
    qualified". Finding work at my age is nearly
    impossible.
    When I had around 10 years of experience and had
    to take a temporary contract of 3 years in
    Montréal (Canada) in order to survive, this was
    after 7 months of search all over the US North
    East.

    There was a place in Rochester where the manager
    told me flat out that I was too old (40 years old)

    The catch is that if you have less than 2 years of
    experience companies don't want you and if you
    have more than 5 years of experience they think
    you cost too much and don't want you either.
    Those who hire green engineers have them work
    their asses off for lower than normal wages and
    get rid of em when they start refusing to work
    excessive unpaid overtime.

    Very few companies are smart enough to understand
    that they should get the best and brightest. Their
    HR dept will pick whatever cost the least. They'll
    spend money on bullshitter managers but not on
    real workers.

    If you come under the temporary visa you are held
    by the balls and can't leave even if you feel you
    are screwed so you must to take the pay that is
    offered to you.
    If you leave that company in that 6 years you
    can't apply for a green card.

    Technically we are only importing cheap temporary
    labor. We're not in Germany here, this is
    America. If you work and pay taxes in this country
    you should be entitled to stay here.

    Size of government is a bullshit issue. The
    republicans want the government out the business
    world but want the government in women's lives.

    When a choice is between a few companies being
    pissed at the government and the governement
    tampering with people's freedom, the choice
    becomes very clear.

    A vote for Bush is a pro fundy vote and a
    vote for Al Gore is a pro freedom vote.

    According to nasdaq Corel's share went up sharply
    early october to take a dive a few days later.
    Whoever bought millions of shares of Corel
    then made a killing as the shares doubled in value.

    I wonder who dumped those millions of shares as
    the price went up to $6 a share from close to
    $3.50 a share.

    The share have now gone back up a bit.

    You don't seem to realize the end result of that
    .NET bullshit. I see a new way of delivery for
    software when one has no longer to worry about
    having to deal with stolen software as Microsoft,
    Corel and many others have to deal with.
    When the .NET system is in place, you rent all
    your software much like you rent your cable TV or
    satellite service, à la carte.
    You may get a few little things for free like
    the mine program or notepad but for real
    applications you will pay forever. No more buying
    software but you are just renting. A dream come
    true for Microsoft, Corel and other companies
    who will buy into the system.

    IBM and Sun will ultimately look for systems
    like this. IBM will most likely still pursue
    both avenues since their money is in hardware
    and services.

    To think that we Linux users are moron enough
    to buy into this bullshit shows an excess use
    of some strange substance or an excess use of
    Microsoft's products.

    I will never buy into this as I want to run
    either software that I write, software that
    I buy, Freeware or Shareware.

    from them someday instead of buying it :

    I've seen a store in Montréal where computers
    come bundled with Linux and you add $120 to
    get winblows 98 instead.

    A naked PC saves us the expense of useless
    CDs when we allready have our OS. I prefer
    to buy my OS from CompUSA or www.chumbo.com.

    I can understand that dogs may like the
    frisbees but think about those of us who
    don't have a dog.

    What the hell do you think we can do with the
    frisbees that we have to buy with the PC?
    My cats like balls, not frisbees.

    The way it works in Canada and here to some
    extent is that a lot of the taxpayer's money
    goes to companies. The amounts given are
    disguise as help to enterprises.
    In Canada they call this "Subventions à
    la petite et moyenne entreprise", in anglo
    provinces they have similar giveaway programs
    as well. I don't remember the name they got
    for here in Michigan but it is a similar
    shaft of the taxpayers.

    Canada is one of the most generous in that
    area but they've managed over the years to
    convince people that the high taxes are caused
    by the high cost of medecine which is actually
    much lower than here.

    By the way, who is that jackass on TV bashing
    the Canuck medical system? He claims to have
    been a Canadian MP, I don't remember seing the
    MF's face before.
