    Hillary proved to be the smart one by her
    response while Lazio choose to look like a
    moron with his. Lazio automatically assumed that
    this was a real bill in congress and started
    bashing on the governement while Hilary was
    puzzled by the bizarre bill that she'd never
    heard of.

    Don't worry, there are plenty of politicians
    who are well aware of that phony bill, or at
    least their secretaries are.

    There was an article I read in the Grand Rapids
    newspaper (Michigan) where they explained that
    that phony bill got some phone lines jammed.
    There were more angry calls about this bill
    than people bitching at the President during
    the hypocrite republican's vendetta against
    the president for his blowjobs.

    There are some of us who have found serious
    problems that makes this kernel not ready for
    prime time. Perhaps Linus is aware of some more
    problems where the solution isn't there yet.
    To go ahead and release the kernel at such an
    unstable point would not be a smart move. Linus
    just shows us that he is a bright individual
    and that when he does release the kernel we won't
    be dealing with some sort of Microsoft style
    kernel. Those of you who use winblows are perhaps
    used to frequent crashes but for us in the Linux
    community it is not acceptable.

    Considering that the shares have been
    sitting between $3 and $6 I would see it
    as little gamble that might pay off.
    Take a peek at the shares to see if they
    go up. If they do Microsoft will be
    making millions and if not they help
    Corel go down the toilet.
    Considering that those millions are a drop
    in the bucket for Microsoft, it's a win win
    situation for the evil empire.
    And I bought the Linux version of WordPerfect
    soon to be a Microsoft product (SHIT!!!!)

    You are indeed correct, I have never seen a
    downloadable version. On the other hand I noticed
    that they say that they are working on one.
    But since time is money, $75 isn't such a big
    deal for what you get. Compare that with winblows
    and see. The use of the word free is a bit
    exagerated.

    One thing I found interesting is the change
    they made on the licencing. Last time I looked
    at the site they were not giving it for free
    for business. I would assume that they would
    make money with the service or most of their
    business is in the big stuff.

    often. I got a good laugh too when I read
    about this KBasic. Basic much like Cobol
    should not be used as it makes it impossible
    for people to learn how to program.

    I asked one of my brothers if they had cuecat
    scanners in the great white north and he said
    that he checked at the local Radio Shack in
    London (Ontario, Canada) and was told that
    they are supposed to get them in October and
    will charge $20 Can. I assumed that the clerk was
    another one of those morons but then who knows,
    stores in Ontario are well known for their high
    prices.

    I meant that I am an immigrant from my white
    background. Native Americans have been here
    for thousands of years, much longer than any
    whites.
    Anyhow I fail to understand your rant since
    my bitching was not about immigration in general
    but about this particular immigration bill which
    is nothing but a ploy from the big companies to
    control the labor market. There is no problem
    in finding good technical people but problems
    in getting good cheap technical people.
    I wouldn't mind even seeing more technical
    immigrants coming if they would go thru the
    same path as everyone else and their stay not
    limited in time. If they wish to stay here they
    should be entitled to. If an employer decides that
    he doesn't want the employee or if the employee
    realizes that he is getting the shaft he
    should be entitled to seek other employement
    without have to go thru the whole immigration
    process. That way no company could control the
    life of a technical immigrant, this would
    help us keep the gains that we've made over
    the years in the job market.

    I grew up in Québec where going to university
    is considered a right not a luxury. This is true
    for many countries where good tech people are
    imported from. There is usually too many highly
    educated people over there for the number
    of jobs available.
    Here in the US you have to spend a fortune to get
    a good education thus the lower numbers of highly
    educated people. I don't know how I will be able
    to afford to pay for a good university education
    for my son and I'm an Engineer.
    The biggest problem of shortage in the US has
    a lot more to the fact that companies refuse
    to give good wages according to the supply and
    demand. They pump money into the congressmen
    campaigns in order to get temporary employees.
    I have nothing against immigration being part
    immigrant myself (thru my white blood) but
    I think immigrant workers should be given the
    opportunity to stay here after their contract.
    This is not likely to happen considering that
    the companies wouldn't have as good a control
    on them as they do now. Just the fear of being
    expelled put a lot of people in line, all they
    need to get screwed with immigration is a bad
    word from the boss.

    This bill pushed by congress is just a plot to
    put us in the poor house. You have to remember
    that when an ad says between 2 to 5 years of
    experience they mean it litterally.
    Fringe benifits tend to be nonexistant for
    temporary workers and unpaid overtime is easier
    to impose.
    If the market becomes flooded with temporary
    qualified people we will have to accept lower
    wages or end up on welfare and eventually
    working at McDonald or Radio Shack.

    This reminds an election when I lived in Québec
    back in the early 70s. We were working hard to
    get the Parti Québécois elected. The feeling
    around was that it was a sure win. A lot of
    people I talked to after the election told
    me that they didn't want the PQ to win too
    strongly so they voted for the liberal party.
    Guess what! we lost.

    Perot was a centrist and most likely he stole
    votes from both parties.

    As for this time, Nader takes votes from the
    democrats and Buchanan from the republicans

    What do they mean by opening the software?
    What looked like a CD box had no way of ever being
    completely close and seemed to contain some kind
    of frisbie. There is a mention on the sheet
    that there is a CD that would automatically
    start which seems illogical unless it'd be
    an a bootable CD so it is assumed to be for
    some foreign OS. For that reason the frisbie
    ended up in the garbage can as any other
    frisbies that we find with a new computer
    (Win 98, Office, etc)
    Nowhere did I see any license agreement until
    I read something about cue-cat on slashdot.

    As far as I am concerned I was given a free
    toy at the local Radio Shack. I was told it
    was free but my name was entered and was
    given a receipt with a cost of $0.00. There was
    no way for me to know at the time that I couldn't
    use it. Even if I had been able to know that I
    couldn't use it, it would violate some law as I
    don't see how you can sell something and deny the
    purchaser the right to use an item that he
    purchased.

    I live in northern Michigan with about the
    same wages I had when I live near Buffalo
    but it feels like I'm making more than twice
    the amount. I drive 14km a day and my 6 year old
    car has 90000km on it.

    It's quiet and the only danger on the road
    are deers.

    I wouldn't change it for 2 or 3 times the pay
    if it meant moving to the big city and pay
    outrageous rent and having to worry about
    something more dangerous than a moron trying to
    convert you to some religious bullshit.

    As for driving the labor price down in CA, all
    it will end up doing is having tech people
    having to sleep in the park because they can't
    afford an apartment.

    The reason the employers love to import foreign
    employees under the current bill is that the
    employees can be controlled better than the
    local employees much like a young employee is
    easy to control.

    As we grow older we are less and less willing
    to work for free after our 40 or 45 hrs are
    done but immigrants on the special visa will
    do whatever they have to do to stay in this
    country. As for the youngs, knowing that it
    is harder to find employees are less likely to
    accept to work unpaid overtime as long as
    they used to.

    The shortage is of cheap labor. This reminded me
    of an ad in a magazine for an engineering job.
    This was back in 1980. It was looking for
    an engineer with 20 years of experience and
    the salary was around $5000 per year.

    Perhaps it was exagerated as a request but
    if you go thru head hunters you will find out
    that a lot of companies balk at paying decent
    wages to engineers or programmers. They eventually
    got the congress to approve the flooding of the
    market with aliens without giving them the right
    to move to this country if they choose to do so.

    The whole damm scheme should be killed and
    let's go back to a more fair immigration
    where everyone is back to the same level
    playing field.

    The election right now is close. It is obvious
    that Gore is for the middle class while bush
    is for the very rich. Since he has no way to
    get in with just them he kisses up to the fundies
    who dream of installing their theocracy and
    to the NRA by making the hunters believe that
    they're going to lose their beloved gun when
    all the policians want it to keep guns out of
    the hands of morons and criminals because they
    do have wifes who are concerned about the kids
    getting killed all over.
    If the women do show up for vote bush is fucked.

    As for your comment on November, the way I look
    at it, it is so close that it could go either way
    but I do recall that I was told the exact same
    thing at the last election. Guess who won!

    Around here most people seem to be taking for
    Bush. Since I live in a fundy infested area this
    is not a true representation of America which
    is more moderate.
    A majority of normal people do support Al Gore.
    Just the fact that obnoxious fundy Pat Robertson
    is a strong supporter of Bush should be a wake up
    call for any intelligent American.

    Pathetic moron! George Bush (not the boob but
    his father) started the fight against Microsoft.
    The inquiry was slowed down when the democrats
    got into office but the justice dept eventually
    was allowed to get back in the game.

    This is just a case of the laws being enforced
    and to claim that enforcing the laws is a liberal
    idea is ridiculous.

    Both liberals and conservatives want laws to
    be respected, only criminals don't.

    Whether Debian is good or not is irrelevant. This
    doesn't change the fact that Corel is a flop
    because of their choice of Debian instead of
    Slackware or RedHat. I had to recompile code
    to get it to work on Corel while I didn't have
    to do that to go from Slackware, RedHat, SuSE
    Caldera or Mandrake.
    Corel chose Debian so you couldn't easily
    just use pieces of their distribution with
    SuSE, RedHat or other distributions.
    This is not to say that Corel Linux isn't
    good (assuming that you ignore the installation
    program blowing partition tables) but that they
    chose to act like Microsoft which is to try to
    take over the market. In Linux you either join
    the crowd or hit a brick wall.
