Hillary proved to be the smart one by her
response while Lazio choose to look like a
moron with his. Lazio automatically assumed that
this was a real bill in congress and started
bashing on the governement while Hilary was
puzzled by the bizarre bill that she'd never
heard of.
Don't worry, there are plenty of politicians
who are well aware of that phony bill, or at
least their secretaries are.
There was an article I read in the Grand Rapids
newspaper (Michigan) where they explained that
that phony bill got some phone lines jammed.
There were more angry calls about this bill
than people bitching at the President during
the hypocrite republican's vendetta against
the president for his blowjobs.
There are some of us who have found serious
problems that makes this kernel not ready for
prime time. Perhaps Linus is aware of some more
problems where the solution isn't there yet.
To go ahead and release the kernel at such an
unstable point would not be a smart move. Linus
just shows us that he is a bright individual
and that when he does release the kernel we won't
be dealing with some sort of Microsoft style
kernel. Those of you who use winblows are perhaps
used to frequent crashes but for us in the Linux
community it is not acceptable.
My sister in law had a cats who loved a rabbit, he
was so sweet to it that he licked it often. One
morning I found a rabbit's tail while helping her
find her rabbit.
Considering that the shares have been
sitting between $3 and $6 I would see it
as little gamble that might pay off.
Take a peek at the shares to see if they
go up. If they do Microsoft will be
making millions and if not they help
Corel go down the toilet.
Considering that those millions are a drop
in the bucket for Microsoft, it's a win win
situation for the evil empire.
And I bought the Linux version of WordPerfect
soon to be a Microsoft product (SHIT!!!!)
You are indeed correct, I have never seen a
downloadable version. On the other hand I noticed
that they say that they are working on one.
But since time is money, $75 isn't such a big
deal for what you get. Compare that with winblows
and see. The use of the word free is a bit
exagerated.
One thing I found interesting is the change
they made on the licencing. Last time I looked
at the site they were not giving it for free
for business. I would assume that they would
make money with the service or most of their
business is in the big stuff.
One more reason to switch to GNOME. At least
it doesn't look like winblows and crash less
often. I got a good laugh too when I read
about this KBasic. Basic much like Cobol
should not be used as it makes it impossible
for people to learn how to program.
Yep! You attacked some girl in a pajama's party
and ended up with a baseball bat in between
the legs. I wouldn't call that sleeping with
half the girls but more like sleep not far from
the girls.
The only things that belong to the brits is that
cesspool of an Island and the mad cows that
they raises for the meat and the sheeps that
they raise for entertainment.
I asked one of my brothers if they had cuecat
scanners in the great white north and he said
that he checked at the local Radio Shack in
London (Ontario, Canada) and was told that
they are supposed to get them in October and
will charge $20 Can. I assumed that the clerk was
another one of those morons but then who knows,
stores in Ontario are well known for their high
prices.
I meant that I am an immigrant from my white
background. Native Americans have been here
for thousands of years, much longer than any
whites.
Anyhow I fail to understand your rant since
my bitching was not about immigration in general
but about this particular immigration bill which
is nothing but a ploy from the big companies to
control the labor market. There is no problem
in finding good technical people but problems
in getting good cheap technical people.
I wouldn't mind even seeing more technical
immigrants coming if they would go thru the
same path as everyone else and their stay not
limited in time. If they wish to stay here they
should be entitled to. If an employer decides that
he doesn't want the employee or if the employee
realizes that he is getting the shaft he
should be entitled to seek other employement
without have to go thru the whole immigration
process. That way no company could control the
life of a technical immigrant, this would
help us keep the gains that we've made over
the years in the job market.
I grew up in Québec where going to university
is considered a right not a luxury. This is true
for many countries where good tech people are
imported from. There is usually too many highly
educated people over there for the number
of jobs available.
Here in the US you have to spend a fortune to get
a good education thus the lower numbers of highly
educated people. I don't know how I will be able
to afford to pay for a good university education
for my son and I'm an Engineer.
The biggest problem of shortage in the US has
a lot more to the fact that companies refuse
to give good wages according to the supply and
demand. They pump money into the congressmen
campaigns in order to get temporary employees.
I have nothing against immigration being part
immigrant myself (thru my white blood) but
I think immigrant workers should be given the
opportunity to stay here after their contract.
This is not likely to happen considering that
the companies wouldn't have as good a control
on them as they do now. Just the fear of being
expelled put a lot of people in line, all they
need to get screwed with immigration is a bad
word from the boss.
This bill pushed by congress is just a plot to
put us in the poor house. You have to remember
that when an ad says between 2 to 5 years of
experience they mean it litterally.
Fringe benifits tend to be nonexistant for
temporary workers and unpaid overtime is easier
to impose.
If the market becomes flooded with temporary
qualified people we will have to accept lower
wages or end up on welfare and eventually
working at McDonald or Radio Shack.
>In my state, California, Gore is way ahead, and
>it will almost certainly go Gore, so I am in fact
>free to vote for whomever I want.
This reminds an election when I lived in Québec
back in the early 70s. We were working hard to
get the Parti Québécois elected. The feeling
around was that it was a sure win. A lot of
people I talked to after the election told
me that they didn't want the PQ to win too
strongly so they voted for the liberal party.
Guess what! we lost.
>Now a question: Who is Dukakis? The guy that got
>more votes than Clinton. There is no way of
>telling who would have won the 1992 election
>without Perot in the race
Perot was a centrist and most likely he stole
votes from both parties.
As for this time, Nader takes votes from the
democrats and Buchanan from the republicans
so it will be a wash.
What do they mean by opening the software?
What looked like a CD box had no way of ever being
completely close and seemed to contain some kind
of frisbie. There is a mention on the sheet
that there is a CD that would automatically
start which seems illogical unless it'd be
an a bootable CD so it is assumed to be for
some foreign OS. For that reason the frisbie
ended up in the garbage can as any other
frisbies that we find with a new computer
(Win 98, Office, etc)
Nowhere did I see any license agreement until
I read something about cue-cat on slashdot.
As far as I am concerned I was given a free
toy at the local Radio Shack. I was told it
was free but my name was entered and was
given a receipt with a cost of $0.00. There was
no way for me to know at the time that I couldn't
use it. Even if I had been able to know that I
couldn't use it, it would violate some law as I
don't see how you can sell something and deny the
purchaser the right to use an item that he
purchased.
I live in northern Michigan with about the
same wages I had when I live near Buffalo
but it feels like I'm making more than twice
the amount. I drive 14km a day and my 6 year old
car has 90000km on it.
It's quiet and the only danger on the road
are deers.
I wouldn't change it for 2 or 3 times the pay
if it meant moving to the big city and pay
outrageous rent and having to worry about
something more dangerous than a moron trying to
convert you to some religious bullshit.
As for driving the labor price down in CA, all
it will end up doing is having tech people
having to sleep in the park because they can't
afford an apartment.
The reason the employers love to import foreign
employees under the current bill is that the
employees can be controlled better than the
local employees much like a young employee is
easy to control.
As we grow older we are less and less willing
to work for free after our 40 or 45 hrs are
done but immigrants on the special visa will
do whatever they have to do to stay in this
country. As for the youngs, knowing that it
is harder to find employees are less likely to
accept to work unpaid overtime as long as
they used to.
The shortage is of cheap labor. This reminded me
of an ad in a magazine for an engineering job.
This was back in 1980. It was looking for
an engineer with 20 years of experience and
the salary was around $5000 per year.
Perhaps it was exagerated as a request but
if you go thru head hunters you will find out
that a lot of companies balk at paying decent
wages to engineers or programmers. They eventually
got the congress to approve the flooding of the
market with aliens without giving them the right
to move to this country if they choose to do so.
The whole damm scheme should be killed and
let's go back to a more fair immigration
where everyone is back to the same level
playing field.
The election right now is close. It is obvious
that Gore is for the middle class while bush
is for the very rich. Since he has no way to
get in with just them he kisses up to the fundies
who dream of installing their theocracy and
to the NRA by making the hunters believe that
they're going to lose their beloved gun when
all the policians want it to keep guns out of
the hands of morons and criminals because they
do have wifes who are concerned about the kids
getting killed all over.
If the women do show up for vote bush is fucked.
As for your comment on November, the way I look
at it, it is so close that it could go either way
but I do recall that I was told the exact same
thing at the last election. Guess who won!
Around here most people seem to be taking for
Bush. Since I live in a fundy infested area this
is not a true representation of America which
is more moderate.
A majority of normal people do support Al Gore.
Just the fact that obnoxious fundy Pat Robertson
is a strong supporter of Bush should be a wake up
call for any intelligent American.
Pathetic moron! George Bush (not the boob but
his father) started the fight against Microsoft.
The inquiry was slowed down when the democrats
got into office but the justice dept eventually
was allowed to get back in the game.
This is just a case of the laws being enforced
and to claim that enforcing the laws is a liberal
idea is ridiculous.
Both liberals and conservatives want laws to
be respected, only criminals don't.
Whether Debian is good or not is irrelevant. This
doesn't change the fact that Corel is a flop
because of their choice of Debian instead of
Slackware or RedHat. I had to recompile code
to get it to work on Corel while I didn't have
to do that to go from Slackware, RedHat, SuSE
Caldera or Mandrake.
Corel chose Debian so you couldn't easily
just use pieces of their distribution with
SuSE, RedHat or other distributions.
This is not to say that Corel Linux isn't
good (assuming that you ignore the installation
program blowing partition tables) but that they
chose to act like Microsoft which is to try to
take over the market. In Linux you either join
the crowd or hit a brick wall.
