1. I was in the wrong career field and knew it.
2. I started taking night classes for 'Network Administration' at a local community college.
3. At current place of employment, an open 'Computer Operator' position was posted and I went for it, since no experience was required. I had to quit the night classes and move to the new position (in another state).
4. When a UNIX Sys Admin left in my new dept six months later, I asked to fill the role.
5. The company sent me to at least 3 five-day training classes a year for the next 4 years.
6. I then quit and found a job that more than doubled my salary and provided bonuses for all the training and certifications the other company provided me.
7. Life is good.
