You do know that it's free for new copies of games, right? It's only if you're buying a used copy do you get hit with that $10 fee for online access with that game.
Those kids that are 'abused' just need to stand up for themselves and growl a pair. Not the 'Muder everyone' kind, but the kind so that they're able to look their detractors in the face and tell them off. Even though I'm not a believer I will quote the Good Book here: "God helps those who help themselves."
For general purpose computing, no way would I develop something like this. Hack it into a media center though, then we're talking. One less remote to loose. Just say out loud what you want playing and enjoy. Maybe add in stock quotes or how the local forecast is as well.
Not all games are detected however, thus forcing you to do it manually. If I'm going to be forced to add in a game manually, I'd at least want perks for doing so and Steam offers them.
I make the effort mostly for the Community Overlay. When I'm in WoW, I just take a taxi, bring up the overlay and surf without having to Alt-Tab out of the game. Pretty handy stuff.
That's exactly what he's saying as Sony strictly enforces the OS being up to date. Say you buy a Gen1 PS3 running v1.0 and you get any game made in the last 6 months, you'll be forced to update to (I would think) v3.2 or v3.3 before you can play the game.
Keep in mind that they may make this whole system a part of PSN's authentication system. Meaning this workaround would force anyone using it to be unable to play their games online while it's in use.
Why would they? All of the media formats they want to support are already supported by the built in software. They're simply not wishing to support DivX, WM, MKV, or the various other formats that are out there.
Yeah, this article is way off. Just looked it up myself and locked a few things down as a test. The little 'preview' button that they give you shows what a non-friend would see of your profile, and mine barely had anything. I think that the editor and this anonymous coward really need to do their fact checking before spouting off like a hooting moron.
I may not be a big fan of OneCare, but I've got to say this may be a step in the right direction. All too often I'm working on systems that are only a few months old that have been infected, all because the owner didn't notice their AV trial had expired. I'm sure that MS will/should make it easy to remove for those that are tech savy and wish to use their own personal AV package. But for the n00bs and dumbasses out there, this is a good thing to have, just like making Windows Defender a part of Vista.
If anything, wouldn't mutators like 'fat head' give you even more incentive to get better? That way no matter how hard to nubs try, they still can't kill the broad side of a barn that happens to be your bulbous ass? That's how I always looked at it, because getting owned by n00bs is embarasing when you're at the top of your game and if you're that good, it's even more demeaning to the nubs.

If this is true, paper books are pretty much dead to me.
You not the only real gamer to just 'not get it'. I certainly don't. I'd rather play E.T. for Atari or Daikatana than play Minecraft.

What profit? IIRC, the VLC app was free. Meaning the developers lost money making it due to having to buy a development kit in the first place.
Well, it's rather apt when one tries spreading FUD such as this.
