  6. Watching less TV on One In Eight To Cut Cable and Satellite TV In 2010 · · Score: 1

I cut the cord years ago. The few shows I like I watch online, and like others say, if they start charging or making it too much of a pain to watch, I will just go without. Most of the time when I'm at a friends house that has cable/sat, I surf through and find nothing of interest on. So when I'm bored it just means I have to find something more productive and fulfilling to do then sit on the couch and watch whatever crap the media companies are trying to shovel down my throat this week. I like hulu a lot, and noticed they started taking back episodes offline. It's a shame because sometimes I show somebody a show they haven't seen before (like 30 rock) and can't show them more because of network greed. I think that now that anybody can host a TV show on the internet, their empire is falling, and they're going to try and squeeze every last drop out of it before it falls.

I taught myself how to type. The biggest thing that helped me was getting one of those natural keyboards with the hump in the middle. I got one at one of my early jobs because I was afraid of having carpal tunnel issues--and when I first started using it my hands would actually collide in mid air because my fingers were all over the place. I quickly adapted to keeping my hands on their respective sides, and eventually dumped the natural keyboard and my typing is better for it. I type about 100-120 wpm.

Rule #1 when dealing with level 1 tech support. You know what the problem is--so tell them what they need to hear. "Do you have a home phone number?" Your answer--"No" Problem solved. I was looking for advantage for our cats, and found petsmart had it for a similar price as other online vendors--so I drove down to the local petsmart and it was almost twice the cost! I showed them the printout and asked why it was so much more--they just said they don't honor their website prices in store. So I went back home and ordered it online from a different vendor.

Same thing happened at Circuit City. So I don't shop there anymore either.

The best way to vote is with your wallet. Don't give your money to places with deceptive practices like that. Even if something is on sale--give your business to a company that has good customer service--it's worth paying a little extra for it.

    3) There's a DX10 game that I have to have that doesn't include spyware, adware, or malware.

The only way to convince big corporations that their new direction sucks is to vote with your wallet. Don't buy whatever crap they want to shove in your face. I play bf2 a lot, but didn't buy bf2142. Why? Because they never fixed the bugs in bf2, and they charge full price for a game with ads in it.

  25. COX HDPVR = JOKE on Cox May replace its own DVRs with TiVos · · Score: 0

I've had plenty of bad experiences with Cox's HD PVR. First, the problem with the subscription bug. If you turned your PVR off, it would not record shows in HD. Figured out what was happening is the PVR would power up, switch to the channel, and see the "you need to subscribe to this channel message". This message would then go away, and the show would come on. Well, the PVR didn't wait around for the message to go away, it said "Oh, you don't get this channel" and abort. If you turned the unit off, it would record maybe 30% of your HD shows. If you left it on, it would record probably 80% of your shows.

The second major issue was a design flaw. The box did not have adequate cooling, so it would overheat. When it overheated you would get pixelation, sound would drop, and/or video would drop completely. Later units had a fan on the bottom that didn't help much. I had a unit on a shelf by itself and it still overheated. There's no way you could put the unit on a stack of electronics (ie: tuner, dvd player, HTPC, etc).

I had them replace the unit probably 5-6 times before I finally moved to a different area (Time Warner). Haven't had any problems with their HD PVR--it runs on different hardware but the same software.

So I'd say it's a good thing for COX--they can have a PVR that works for a change! I wouldn't pay more for tivo though.
