  2. Re:Adding Rumble helps, but please fix the rest... on PS3 Rumble Controller Confirmed · · Score: 1

Meanwhile about what percentage of all the other critically well-received games use the left analog stick and the buttons on the right? I believe it's precisely "I don't give a shit" percent.

Why would I? If they use the left analog stick and the buttons on the right... then my left thumb will be on the left stick, my right thumb will be on the buttons. What's the problem?

I mean, there was a trick in Amplitude in which getting to the analog stick was a bit of a challenge - but that was only because the trick involved working the D-pad and the left analog stick simultaneously to move around the board faster - kind of an "unintended feature" I think - so you needed to get to the left stick with the right thumb... But left stick with left thumb? No fucking problem.
  3. Re:Adding Rumble helps, but please fix the rest... on PS3 Rumble Controller Confirmed · · Score: 1

You're declaring symmetry is more important than comfort and usability? You have some strange priorities. I don't think comfort or usability are a problem with the Dual Shock, or chances are I wouldn't like the controller, dur-hey. My favorite PS2 games, the Armored Core series, use the analog sticks as the primary controls (for the last 4-5 years, anyway...) so it's not as though I'm not using these controls.

    3) Swap the left Analog and Dpad. MS, Nintendo and Sega all did so because it is more comfortable to play 3D games that way. Bolting the Dual analogs at the bottom made sense in the PS1 era, but not 2 gens later. Oh, yuck. No way in hell do I want that. Analog sticks are fine where they are. Beautiful symmetry.

Those L2/R2 triggers are a mess, though, as you say. I shudder to think what it'd be like trying to play "Amplitude" on a controller like that...
  6. It's true what they say... on Headband Gives Wearer "Sixth-Sense" · · Score: 1

  8. More from McBride... on SCO Blames Linux For Bankruptcy Filing · · Score: 1

When questioned further about his expectations about the computer business, McBride had this to say:

"See, when I first got started in this business, it was easy. Sell software, make money. It was a lot of fun! I wondered why everyone didn't do that. But nobody ever told me that when I go out there, to make money, there would also be other people out there, and that the money they'd be trying to make was the same money. It's not fair, this business is mine, I totally called it! But other people are still getting in the same business anyway. I hate them. I hope they die."

So, I haven't listened to a lot of Nine Inch Nails, but I guess "Download This Song" is one of theirs? Must be, just seems logical if you think about it. But 228.6mm Nails fans should heed the warnings in "Don't Download This Song":

"You start off stealing songs, then you're robbing liquor stores, and sellin' crack and running over school kids with your car..."

Violating international copyright law is clearly a slippery slope.

(P.S. - what's a motherf****er? Motherfuucker? And are we so childish now we can't say the big bad F word? Fucking pansies...)

  12. Dude with the camera on Trent Reznor Says "Steal My Music" · · Score: 1

As for Trent's comments... I already knew his attitude toward the labels. On that video I'm more interested in the fact there seems to be not one for TWO security guys right in front of the person with the camera not doing anything about the dude with the camera.:) You know, though, I kind of wish they would...

Not to say that I think people shouldn't have the right to video the things they see - on the contrary, I think if someone wants to document their own personal experiences, they ought to have that right. I don't agree with the idea, at ball games for instance, of the management saying "all this you're seeing, we own this, you can't do anything at all with it."

But it is pretty frikkin' annoying, being at a show or something, and a bunch of dipshits holding their cell phones up to video it. It's like, can't people just be where they are, enjoy the experience they're having, without having to hoard a bunch of digital recordings of it? I wanna smack people when they start putting their phones up in the air.
  13. The new drive system... on Photonic Laser Thruster Promises Earth to Mars in a Week · · Score: 1

Of course this idea isn't at the production stage yet - but the inventor of the drive system, Mary Jane Lyle Smith, has secured the patents to the technology and placed them in a trust for further development. It's expected that it'll actually be some time before the new drive system is actually ready - there may be journeys to Mars via more conventional means before then.

  17. Re:If broadcasts are so critical, how come.... on Broadcasters Oppose Wireless Net Service · · Score: 2, Interesting

    Hm, interesting...

A problem with the lossy compression, perhaps? It's easy to provide a good picture when there's not much going on - it's harder to be consistent when movement (on and across the field, in the stands in the background, etc.) peaks...

It could also be that your reception is marginally bad - to the point that your set is receiving enough information during those low-bandwidth moments that it can pick out a reasonable amount of data - but when the data requirements for the signal go up, redundancy in the signal goes down and you don't get quite enough data for the level of activity in the picture...
