Precisely what I thought. I just took one look at it and my thought process went like this
"Hmm... There are three pins connecting each one of those modules to each other. My videocard, on the other had has a whole fuckin' lot of pins. Therefore, in order to get the same performance out of three pins, the frequency must be higher.
Another thing - those things are sequentially connected to the CPU block. This means that the signal will not go directly to the device, but will travel through several devices, each of which will check if the signal is for it and will forward it on, until it gets received by the right device.
Let's suppose that I put my RAM and Videocard closest to the block. Let's also suppose, that those three pins can handle the extreme voltage and frequency needed to get data at a decent speed between the modules. Let's also suppose that the CPU is freakin'fast and everything is overclocked and liquid cooled. Now, I should have a system that enables me to play Doom1 or Duke Nukem 3D."
Seriously, from everything else, but an aesthetic point of view, that is a horrible design.
So, how exactly is this chip going to work? Web sites don't have access to the chips on your computer. For this to work on websites, we'll need an extension to javascript, which means an extension to the browser and some sort of API for the browser to use to read the chip, as well as an OS that can read the chip. This will, in short, mean that every user worldwide will have to update their browser and OS. And even then it won't be accessible if I disable that part of javascript. Without javascript. the only other way I can see is java applets or a direct connection to a dedicated port on your PC. Which won't work for people behind NAT and can always be blocked. Seriously, you people get excited over nothing. Let's wait for it, see if it ever comes to be and then start the rebel movement over the local darknet.
It was found long ago, only it isn't a gene, but an enzyme and it is called "testosterone".
All studies agree that this particular enzyme leads to baldness, long facial hair and a tendency to behave like a 5-year old at the age of 40 - a clear sign of mental regression, induced by the aforementioned enzyme.
For comparison, females, which do not have "testosterone", do not go bald, have facial hair or behave like 5-year-olds at the age of 40. They do, however, show signs of other mental illnesses, like excessive shopping, affinity for strange fluffy objects and the practically unexplained desire to have kids. Also, members of the species between the ages of 13 to 45 go postal once a month, after which they go into deep depression before returning back to normal. All of those seem to follow directly from the "estrogene" enzyme.
So far nobody has been able to find a human, who has neither "testosterone" nor "estrogene" and researchers believe that this will most probably be the next stage in our evolution.

This might happen eventually. Even now we have only 2 widget toolkits - Qt and gtk. The problem is that Qt is proprietary and this upsets some people. Also, we should have some sort of Open Source widget toolkit that we can fall back to when trolltech goes by the wayside, though they will probably just release Qt as Open Source then and we will see some merge between the two. For now, you just select the DE you like the most and install only the minimal number of components needed to run the other one's programs.

I say, old chap, it seems that you have been skipping on your English. This is evident from your blatant mispelling of the plural of the word "virus". If you weren't skipping, you'd jolly well know, that the plural of "virus" is "viruses". May I direct you to wikipedia, particularly the page, entitled "The plural of virus". If you were to look there, you'd notice that the correct spelling is "viruses" and not "virii". You may also wish to consult other sources, such as the Oxford English dictionary. Please do so and save me the horrible pain I feel when someone mutilates the fine British English beyond recognition. Thank you in advance.
Dude, STFU. You clearly don't understand who Linux is for. Linux is not for users. Linux doesn't try to be a mainstram desktop OS. Linux is, was and (hopefully) always will be a hacker's OS. And I'm eternally happy with that.
P.S. When I'm talking about Linux I mean the (KDE | GNOME)/X/GNU/Linux OS, which might be bundled with addtional software and deliverd as a distro.
It's spelled viruses. Not virii. Viruses. V-I-R-U-S-E-S. Here's a link to prove it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plural_of_virus
Back on topic. You are forgeting the antivirus, antispyware, antitrojan, firewall, etc. programs, that the user runs to protect himself from said things. And then forgets to update...
Well, ATI's drivers used to suck hard, but since february they just suck. Just don't expect them to work on a 2.6.12 kernel yet (learned it the hard way). I've been successfully running DOOM3 and UT2004 at speeds comparable (as in very, very, VERY close) to the game's preformance under WinXP pro with the latest 8.14.13 drivers, so it can be assumed that they DO in fact work.
This looks interesting. Could you please explain to me how to do it? I also happen to be running linux (gentoo in fact) and would like to know if such a thing was possible.
No, nonono. You have got it completely wrong. This is actually an exquisitely brilliant part of Sony's marketing campaign for the PSP. I have outlined the details here:
we get the hackers interested in our system by making it hard to hack (but not TOO hard)
the hackers hack it and feel proud of themselves, and in the process find some flaws in our firmware
we release a new firmware with a different, harder exploit, patching the old one, as well as fixing all flaws that have been found.
if no-one finds any more bugs, goto next. else, goto previous.
by now the PSP has got a lot of attention by the hacker community and every script kiddie on
the planet has one
NEVER! Never will the proud order of Vim Operators from the Many Institutes for Technology (v.o.m.i.t.) will be defeated by some Emacs fanboys. We will fight until our last man still has at least two usable fingers!
But I think that Sony will avoid the inevitable flamewar and just include Ed or nano;)
Curiously, this also works in GNOME, XfCE, Window Maker, OpenBox, BlackBox, FluxBox, Enlightenment, fvwm, twm and whatever other window manager you fancy that works on top of X. Actually, it's a feature of X.
Well, GNU/Linux is, has been and (hopefully) always will be a hacker's OS. And I don't want it any other way. At the same time, ther is a secure, Unix-like, user-friendly alternative and it's called MacOS. I really have no idea why people are trying to push GNU/Linux on the users' desktops. It just doesn't make sense to me.
