  21. Re:*yawn* on Microsoft Continues Anti-OSS Strategy · · Score: 1

Now bear in mind that the following statement is just from my memory of *my* perception of the situation at the time. I remember when I was using Windows 3.11 that I hated it. It was the buggiest crap ever. The blue screen was a constant menace. I had read here and there in the popular press that 0s/2 was going to be great and that it would be way more stable. But then Microsoft announced win95 and it seemed like the uncertainty about os/2 drifted into my mind as the usual press announcements from MS continued to hit the stands. So I waited for Win95. What a dissapointment. And I thought XP was a joke. Now I run linux and don't believe anything Microsoft says. I know this is overgeneralized but hey I just can't help but notice the similiarity between M$ statements now with linux in their neighborhood and M$ statements when os/2 was in their vacinity.

This move is right in line with Mick Jones. One of the founding members of The Clash. Back in the 70's when The Clash was young they had the song "Complete Control" which was all about the artist retaining all forms of control regarding their art. It was aimed right at their label IIRC. I always did like the forward thinking of that band and am glad to see one of the surving members still at it. I wish them success. Keep on rocking in the free world mates.

  25. Re:Trust no one. on Major Advertisers Caught In Spyware Net · · Score: 1

No. I do believe it. Corporate greed has added some value true, but mostly big corporations brought the greed that spurs zombie networks, spam, malware and all manner of junk we have to be aware of now. The average housewife user you mentioned are the very ones being afflicted the most by adware, malware, spam, and all manner of phishing techniques rampant in the nwo of the net. Just because I am geeky enough to be free of these things doesn't mean an average user is. If they were then would we have zombie networks? Phishing? Malware? Spyware? Not to the extent we have now. No. I do believe corporations have marred the internet. I would say that someone who has been phished or had their pc infested with crap would agree with me that the bad outweighs the good.
