Well he was talking about gun 'ownership', if you look at the wikipedia numbers there are 90 guns for 100 residents, so obviously the US gun owners have more guns on average than a gun owner anywhere else in the world. I live in CA myself and I know very few people that actually have a gun, still too many to my own taste, but I don't deny their right to own one. So it's still plausible that more people in Canada *own* guns than in the US, the owners in Canada just don't stockpile them under the kids bed like you see on Cops (the tv show) once in a while.

If you look at the numbers you gave us US has 3.3 times more gun per inhabitant than Canada yet the US has 7.9 more murders by firearms. From this I would say that the US gun owners are at least twice as trigger happy than the Canadian gun owners.

    Here is a quote:
"Some unions are also accused of having had recourse to occult financing, in particular by using work council funds, especially the CGT with the works council at EDF. At the beginning of 2000, this controversy has taken a turn justice on the one hand with the dismissal of the Director General of the CCAS, which had raised serious irregularities and malfunctions, and, secondly, by the submission of a complaint on behalf of agents. Bernard Thibault, secretary general of the CGT, has been heard by the court in July 2006 in connection with this case and a criminal investigation was opened for breach of trust, fraud, forgery and use of forgeries and misuse of company assets"

Also the workers are not on strike are subject to violent pressure, and many admit they go on strike so they tires don't get slashed, or so they can get promoted (some companies are union run, while not owned by the unions):
If you don't join the strike we'll break your car.

My uncle was beat up and spent a few weeks in a hospital, ending up partially disabled because he was not pro-strike. He was minding his own business, closing his shop for the night at the time. I supposed that's what 'union' stand for: 3-4 guys 'unite' to beat someone up so he will see things their way.

Actually the french unions have treasure funds so that the strikers do get compensation when thy go on strike. Wht I've sen pretty often as well is that once the strikers get all they wanted after weeks of strikes: pay us our strike days or we keep going. So no, strikes are not a financial burden on the strikers in many cases. On top of that unions often behave as mobs; torture, kidnaping and even eco-terrorism (dump toxic stuff in rivers) is not beyond them.

Most of the past governments have let strikes govern the country, but now people realize that the whole country is only getting crippled more and more after every year while strikes benefit a minority. There are many things I don't like about Sarcozy, but he is the only candidate I though could steer the country in a better direction.

Even during the pre-10.0 times the PPC on the desktop was in trouble (remember the g4 stuck around 400Mhz for over a year?), so they had to keep an exit door open. Freescale did not deliver on the long term, then came the G5 from IBM, full of promises ("3Ghz by next summer").

Motorola/Freescale spent the money on embeded and cell phone rather than on dektop CPUs. IBM moved their money to the high end servers and the cell... which I think is a HUGE disappointment.

I'm not saying Apple will stop making OS X working with n other CPU. They will do it internally, to force developers to not code specifically for x86 and keep the OS 'open'. I'm talking about publicly supporting the PPC machines. Having a dev version that kind-of works in the back (like the intel versions of OS X 10.0 through 10.3) and a version that works well like 10.4 is a whole lot different, and it took Apple a few month to get a 'stable' OS X Intel.

It cost a huge amount of money to R&D the motherboards.

By switching to Intel Apple not only got a predictable source of CPUs, but also got most of the work done for them for the motherboard designs. If you look at the Mac Pros, their motherboards are almost a copies of Intel boards. I'm sure that having PPC board along the Intel board would at least double their development cost (for the motherboards only), and with no financial advantage.

An other big reason is that Apple will drop support for PPC in a few years, so the longer they keep PPC around, the longer they have to spend money to support it.
