Just to comment on this, I have noticed a lot of open source software being abused in this way by loading it with crapware and distributing it on download.com.

I also had a friend who wrote some freeware (without a GPL or similar license, JUST freeware) games, and had some some spyware-monger take his games and add some random spyware junk to it then bought Download.com positions, he contacted download.com asked for them to remove the games, they did, then he contacted the author, and he acted as if there was nothing wrong. 8-)

I have killed all the spam I get... every last one.

This is what I have done:

I put a link to spam@refrozen.com on every (every = most) page that links to one of my email addresses (except slashdot, where I change my email address all the time and forward the old one to :blackhole:)...

As soon as I get an email at spam@refrozen.com I have a program that adds that user to my spammy users list. All emails further recieved from that user on *@refrozen.com get moved to my spam folder.

It hasn't failed yet, and hasn't marked an incorrect spammer, I have used it for 3 weeks. I used to get over 100 spams a day, now I get none.

Considering spam is only sort of illegal, I think the spammers are on the legal end... I don't really know though.

I never really did see Lycos as a good company ("not evil" :D), this, IMO, just makes them worse. While, spam is a big problem, it is the least of my worries, and I have a million different email addresses (My website has about 400 different email addresses that you use depending on what your email is about) all being forwarded to my Gmail account, I get a fair amount of spam, but, still....
