  1. Re:Open source is not a verb on Microsoft to Open Source FoxPro · · Score: 1

Language changes over time and people make it change. Old English did not have the phrasing "I am going". There was no "am"'ing, "is"'ing or "are"'ing. Check out some Shakespeare. They only had things like "I go" "We go", "I will go" etc.
Some working is not commonly used anymore like "goeth", valid but just not used.
I don't mind "open source" turning into a verb. In fact, I would start to argue it's already commonly used that way as evidenced by the article post and elsewhere. It's becoming pervasive. You might have to keep making your argument more and more frequently as time progresses, or else just give up completely and accept it, thus indirectly promoting it as part of our changing language. It might be a catch 22.

If Microsoft is agreeing to evolve AJAX within an open standards body then inside that context they cannot introduce proprietary features. This is much better than Microsoft evolving AJAX all by itself -- of course Microsoft may do that regardless as another in-house development stream. Dismissing Microsoft's efforts is a common theme. As with anything you can always look at the negative aspects instead of the positive. I wanted to note a positive point.

While we're pointing out potential hypocrisies of Apple, I always found this funny -- did any developers ever notice in the "Gift Exchange" Apple commercial @ http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/ PC is really hoping for a C++ GUI Programming manual for XMas, while Mac uses iPhoto software to put together a nice gift easily.

Well ... if you have ever visited the Apple Developer Connection... http://developer.apple.com/ C/C++ seems the language of choice and not many development tools exist except a few provided by Apple, while PC actually has a plethora of languages and development tools to choose from. Comparatively, Apple is in need of C++ programming guide moreso than PC .

The evil is with the Nondisclosure Agreement!

Non-disclosure agreements are not a device for someone to cover their tracks. It protects business information. For example, Google has a responsibility to the board and shareholders and Wall Street to not disclose certain financial information or plans ahead of time. No doubt the elected officials would become privy to some such information during negotiations; resulting in the requirement for NDA to be used. NDAs are not evil. Google is following common business practice. Also remember, Google is not a person, it is a business entity and will act as such.

What about the stupidity of handing out awards for something so obvious, as if something unknown has been revealed. That kind of thing doesn't deserve any credit because it's not even bordering on smart. I really think few people care that McDonalds has a fake blog, except the people who don't eat there anyways. They will have just another excuse to complain about the company, just make some more noise for the people who are making noise regardless. Then you have the people who say the corporate offenders have been revealed as liars and therefore the marketing ends up hurting them ... well, that's a wish, not reality.
