    From what I've heard

    From what you previously heard, you were under the assumption you needed an internet connection to activate; however that was wrong and you had a false argument, proved by Microsoft.
    Now can you really really trust you heard something correct? Once again ... are you sure you're getting your information from the right sources? I cannot buy new hearsay based on the error of your previous hearsay. Please produce proof.

    The problem is sometimes shitty code can be subjective, believe it or not. Some people label Picasso's paintings as kindergarten output while others call them a masterpiece, and everything in between. It all depends on who you have learned from and the context of the situation. Programming that is shitty in one domain is perfect in another, and everything in between.

    You can't "simply allow activation" if your systems aren't connected to the Internet!


    Getting your info from the right sources? ... Microsoft says differently:
    Q. Does MAK activation require Internet connectivity?
    A. MAK activation can be performed either online or by telephone.

    I argued the point that Microsoft will make it easy for you to activate their product because they want to sell it to you. Indeed they do.

    Or you can switch to Linux and/or OSX. :)

    Ya, I saw that movie too where the computers worked all the time, people got in and out without being detected and the law enforcement was bumbling the issues and couldn't catch up to the criminals.

    Or you can simply allow activation of Windows if it's the platform you choose to use and develop on. I'm sure Microsoft will be more than happy to help because they do want you to buy their product. It's probably rather easy to do.

    That is an awesome post (I bookmarked it) and I also agree with you the patent system needs to be fixed in some ways. Here is a story the day after your post which you've no doubt already read, but I want to slot it in here as a good place to show an example of the patent system being broken at times.

    Why, amongst every great post, does there usually exist a reference to humanity destroying itself? The topic could be anything about the future, and then Bang! ... there it is. I just realized now that I see this quite a bit. This is not negative feedback about the parent which I think is a really good post. I just see that nagging reference again.

    As a programmer, I say a voting machine should never eat a vote silently. Votes are easy math: cast_votes++
    The machine should provide feedback that a vote has been accepted and counted, otherwise make it clear this did not happen. Somebody should at least pull out some simple unit testing. http://nunit.org/

    Example: why does XHTML backslashes in hr or br tags.

    XHTML uses forward slashes, not backslashes. By misstating this key point of XML you have proven where the problem is. People don't take the time to understand the new standard. This is not meant to be condescending but to point out the fact that it's easy for confusion to revolve around something new because we innately want to stay with the old stuff we know, and equally it's hard to find the time to pick up something new.

    The fact that the W3C is bringing human psychology into the matter instead of considering the pure technical aspects puts them in better standing to make the changes they want. The are catering to the masses in a more sensible way.

    Obviously you don't have a musical bone in your body if you have the pie-eyed idea that an artist is only interested in the exposure and not getting money from his or her work. And don't even try to start arguing the exposure will result in long-term cash. That only works an extremely small percentage of the time. You're trying to make an excuse for leeching artist's materials and not having to pay. Yeah, wouldn't it be nice if all the artists were living in cardboard boxes but still producing good quality music for free. Love you man, but get a grip.
