  1. JWZ on Hula. Bonus track: Insides of Netscape fate on Novell Releasing Hula and 200,000+ Lines of Code · · Score: 2, Interesting

The DNA Lounge owner comments about the "groupware Hula" (advises/admonishes Nat Friedman on?) and by the ways clarifies about the Netscape-Collabra innards.

  2. Not so new idea, but promising implementation on A9 Search Engine Launches Yellow Pages · · Score: 1

Since more than three years, Pages Jaunes (Yellow Pages) from France Telecom has a included in his search service a link to pictures of the address front. You can even virtually walk in the streets of Paris, using their interface to photos.

Make a search there ( using for example:

    nom: Follies Bergere
    localite: Paris

In the answer you can click in the Photo link and voila (May be you can see the dancers getting into the theater ;))

Amazon implementation is interesting. They have done great in terms of integration.

Also YP companies from Latin America have explored this technology before.

I attended last month in Medellin, Colombia (a global launch ?) to a SUN presentation on their NoSuSu (Novell SuSe Sun) Linux strategy (Looking Glass Included).

    Their basic pitch was:
    - All Sun server s/w you can eat for US100/seat-year (Support and training included!)
    - All Sun desktop s/w (Supp & Train incl.) for extra US50/seat-year

A plain StarOffice demo was included (No mention about XML, PDF, SWF publishing and scripting features).

The Looking Glass is a 3D-engine in java fed from a lot of desktop data.

Obviously they are betting on selling servers for hosting all that affordable software, because Linux versions of the server s/w are not ready yet.

We, /.ters should promote and write the Bazaar side of the History
We are the Reporters, Analists and Consumers of our own information and news. Just grow the base of the users of this /. model and promote it among other non Geek communities.
Every /.ter in a non technical company should compromise to create an internal company bulletin board. It's quite easy.
Go Zope grab your copy of zope in the desired flavor (Unix,...etc) and install the squishdot product. You will have an instant bulletin board that any one could use.
Let's help people to create, comment and use the information they really want.

etoys have more money and used it incorrectly.
/. affiliates definitely have far more knowledge than etoys, but it doesn't allow to overuse it.

Let the wrong behavior in their side.

  13. Re:cut & paste to a xterm near you: on No EToy for Christmas · · Score: 1

I support etoy.com rights, but the least thing we need now is /. to be associated with some forms of negative use of the knowledge. It won't made any good for etoy.com, instead let etoys.com know what kind and level of people is backing etoy.com
and that they are no alone.

etoys marketing people are totally wrong when attacking etoy.com.
Commercial sites were banned from the net until NSF finally approved and open system, and now a newcomer commercial site tries to destroy the very root of the value of Internet, openness and cooperation.

etoys is misunderstanding e-maket and e-ethic. Having money is not synonym of having reason (drugs cartel, Redmond cartel and so). The e-market are we the people that are on line and work hard for making the net a growing and universal place where justice, fairness and knowledge flow for all.

Please do not use alternate and aggressive methods instead let's make etoys feel our position.
