I think auto comments would be useful. For example, we were talking in #firefox the other day and somehow got onto "optimized code", which, while not as easy to read as the longer code which happens to be self explanatory, does the job better with less text.
The auto commenter could come through and turn that optimized code into a sentence or so of what it'd do, then post it as comments. It'd be pretty useful, especially if it were able to do it recursively (Got a program and can't easily figure out what it does? Run the auto commenter and it'll tell you in plain english!).
It's brilliant, just not the best application of the application right off. Best for the 'maintenance programmer' or someone trying to understand your code.
16:9 is better than 5:4. Seriously, who came up with that? It's the only non 4:3 resolution that's somehow become a Computer display standard (meaning screens come in that native resolution, e.g. LCDs/laptops).
1280x960 just works better, especially if you want to switch a video to fullscreen, as I have a TV Tuner card and dislike the black bars oddly created.

With flashblock, right click the flash and click Allow Flash from this site. I did it for Flickr and H*R, which just makes the internet awesome again.
Also, the flash has some very nice uses, such as "Add note" and you can add notes to parts of a photo do make a 'diagram overlay', which is really useful for our mockups of the new SpreadFirefox.com.
My UT2k4 copy is on DVD. Yes, you can buy it on 6 cds, but WHY? World of Warcraft is currently on 4 CDs, and there's no DVD version (the Collectors Edition shipped with 4 cds and a dvd) available.
DVD is currently becoming the new cd 'standard' for sharing software. Families are distributing home movies on it at christmas (at least, ones I know are) and people are starting to backup to it. Heck, you can get Encarta or Wikipedia (soon) on DVD. The benefits of dvd for software are not going to go away just because you can download movies over broadband now (while almost half of the country still sits on dialup and with major broadband isps not looking to expand there...), so I am quite sure it'll stay around for some time.
Plus, there's those new DVD-Audio type things sound like they'd sound great, although I don't know if I'd notice the higher quality as much as the surround sound. I don't know (currently) of any software that could play them in my computer, either:(
If you click news, it takes you to a mysearch.com search for the word bittorrent. It's hosted by hotornot. Mysearch is a spyware (Oh, sorry, don't sue me, HELPFUL TOOLBAR) company. HotOrNot is, ah who cares about that one.
Either way, wtf is with mysearch being the news link?
Nice ideas, the first time mention is really good in case you visit paypaal.com or something.
For the "dialog box pops up if the ip is wrong, you'd take a second look at the web address" line: Taking a second look at the correct web address, with Pharming happening, would reveal the correct web address. Why? If the DNS servers themselves are poisoned, www.realsite.com can resolve to www.fakesite.com, transparently. Thus, the FireFence would see that RealSite.com for some reason has changed hosts, and this might be alarming and prevent the user from logging into FakeSite with his RealSite info.
Then you could say, "What if one fakes the firefence domain?", well that's taken care of by including both the IP and the domain and possibly some other host information in the extension, so things are checked to "match up" before starting a download. Then, things could be followed up with a pgp check.
Why get spoofstick
for IE? The Netcraft Toolbar has more features!
Because Netcraft Toolbar requires IE
I'm sorry, I really don't understand what you're saying. So instead of using a product that's great on other browsers but has better competition on IE, you should use the cross-platform item solely because it doesn't require IE.
This extension for firefox (FireFence, you know, what you put around a pharm...) would keep track of https (and, have the option to do http) ips. It would keep a log of the ips of ALL your https sites, to see if they're in the same range. For example, google:
[20:17] * Dns resolving www.google.com
- Found 2 addresses dns: www.google.com nick: addr: www.google.com ip: 64.233.187.99 dns: www.google.com nick: addr: www.google.com ip: 64.233.187.104 - [20:17] * Dns resolved www.google.com to 64.233.187.104
For this, it'd see they were in a similar range and not be too worried. If it suddenly noticed google was going to 192.168.1.100 (meh) then it would throw up alarms, "This site has a radically different address". Of course, that would be the defaults, there would be options to have it alert you for all ip changes and show you the list of past ips, optionally look it up on arin/ripe/apnic and see who owns the ip, all sortsa stuff.
Preferably it'd come with a list of known good sites, for paypal and a few banks or whatever.
I think a firefence would work a lot nicer than just the spoofstick, but I know NOTHING about coding one, just about what I'd want it to do.
Alright, I'm upset with you, slashdotters who replied to this parent before me. You missed: H*R. Cross-platform entertainment. One of the staples of Linux entertainment.

He didn't have flash until the 10th or so of this month. It was pure html and sliced images. I don't know why he got it converted to flash, I really just... don't.
It's been html the whole time it's been up, since 2001 or whenever. It's gone through quite a few major redesigns, originally as "jet pack industries" it was an image map of a factory and the stones out front had the words + links. before the tour it was just a front page of the album cover along with tour locations. At one time, they used a design from OSWD. Now, for some unknown reason, it's flash.
Feel free to check The Archive. According to that, the relaunch happened after Feb 13.
Disclaimer: I'm not defending flash, it sucks. I'm defending xomc for resisting flash for so long.
In short, "GetLoaded.com" stole information from "Truckstop.com" because truckers used the same ids and passwords for both sites.
When Truckstop started using user IDs and passwords, Getloaded did the same. Reasoning correctly that truckers using both sites would create the same userid's and passwords, Getloaded officials logged into Truckstop's site using their customers' IDs. Then they registered a defunct company as a subscriber as another route to getting access to the data.
Nah, that's too easy. Plus, on my mums car it messes up the radio with her cell phone charger plugged in, so this would be a real good thing for that situation.
Then don't download the files using WINE? What's the problem here, you don't seem to need any windows programs to run on your *nix box, so what are you complaining about?
Oh no, if you run linux and WINE there is no possible way you didn't also purchase XP or a computer with XP preloaded! It's unpossible and inplausable as well as imcredible.
Why is this modded Insightful? Pretty much every computer you get these days is going to have the latest copy of Winders. These copies are legal and, technically, purchased. So why can't I, as a person who owns a legitimate copy of XP, use WINE to run windows programs in linux?
Did you make that article? Someone made it. Anyway it's wrong, why put it at Mark jen, it should be at Mark Jen. I've moved it. Why there's a 1280 x 1024 fansite is beyond me.
While we're on the subject, the PSP has a 480x272 LCD.
You work for Diebold?
If you install Quicktime Alternative (from the same people who brought you real alternative), you get a directshow filter for Quicktime.
It's very nice, I must say.
This bug is still being worked on. It's Bug 247884 (I can't direct link, they block links from slashdot.)

Yeah, but it's ages after Grey Goo was posted on Exit Mundi. Quite a few of those things listed there are already on Exit Mundi, btw.

Why get spoofstick for IE? The Netcraft Toolbar (used in TFA) shows the country that the server is located in even! That's much nicer.
