The Betamax ruling is the only thing that protects your right to own a VCR, tape recorder, CD-burner, DVD-burner, iPod, or TiVo. It's that important. But new legislation that's being pushed through the Senate by lobbyists for the music and movie industries would override the Betamax decision and create a huge liability for any business that makes products which can copy sound or video. This legislation (formerly known as the INDUCE Act) would essentially give Hollywood veto power over a huge range of new technologies. And if they get this power, they'll definitely use it. Even "compromise" drafts from the Copyright Office could make mp3-playing iPods ancient history; the music and movie industries want to force all content to go through their own restricted channels.
With the graphs I've seen of how they quickly lose them, combined with the fact that 3 of my 5 invites were used the next DAY, I'm going to say that the 24000 is a rolling figure.
Plus, due to the supposed "expiration" after 30 days, the invites they have won't last forever. But, when I get them back, I'll redonate. Not too big of a hassle.
Also, has anyone noticed an insane increase in the amount of invites? Can someone say "daymn"? How do we know they're all good?
When I saw my 50, I started handing them out to the gmail o matic, its easy, paste the address, invite, repeat. no fake name creation or clicking 'invite another', just keep pasting and hitting enter. its nice.
eventually everyone will have one and they'll launch gmessenger.
I suppose since it's xhtml you can define your own things (like xml?), but if the validator doesn't understand that you're defining your own things then that could be it. IANAWD (web designer)
When people did the automatic update, the internet was up in arms that they didn't have the option to uncheck "Install spyware please", which they only get in the clean first install. So unchecking the default install is available, unchecking the default update +spywareinstall is not.
Just a word of warning to those of you interested in this software.
That's added text. I rewrote it from the gift in a Notepad instance. The most stable program Microsoft has ever made, I think. Anyway here it is.
War! The Republic is crumbling under attacks by the ruthless Sith Lord, Count Dooku. There are heroes on both sides. Evil is everywhere.
In a stunning move, the fiendish droid leader, General Grievous, has swept into the Republic capital and kidnapped Chancellor Palpatine, leader of the Galactic Senate.
As the Separatist Droid Army attempts to flee the besieged capital with teir valuable hostage, two Jedi Knights lead a desperate mission to rescue the captive Chancellor....
Thank you for choosing to Download DtecNet Parent File Scan.
Parent File Scan is brought to you by DtecNet Software ApS. This free program allows you to search your computer for installed P2P applications as well as movie and music files. You will then be given the option to remove the identified applications and delete infringing movie and music files in a few easy steps. The program does not distinguish between legal and illegal copies, as it is up to the user to determine, whether the files found by the program have been acquired legally, or whether the material should be deleted. Information generated by the program will be made available only to the program's user and will not be shared with or reported to DtecNet Software or any other body.
Thus, the "user" aka "parent" aka "computer illiterate family member" will have to figure out if you ripped those songs off that cd of the same name over in the corner, or saved time by downloading copies. But would they even care? No, let's just delete them all and if they want them back "they can rip them again". But then what happens to the music you paid for? I don't know if iTunes/whatever has a "yours for life" policy where you can redownload things you've already bought, but probably not. Terrible.
If the media industries only took the time in the late 90's to understand and serve this group - I believe they call it marketing - rather than fight against them their revenues would be significantly more. Of all industries that should know this it should be the movie industry.
Today, the film industry generates more income from video/DVD sales and rentals than from theater runs. Had they won their case 20 years ago against Sony and the Supreme Court ruled VCR's were illegal (it was a close 5 to 4 decision) the film industry would have less than HALF the revenues it does today.
I hardly see movies in theaters anymore anyway. I don't really enjoy them as much, probably since a lot of movies anymore are crap put out for the sole purpose of making money. (which all movies are to an extent)
I save the money for video rentals, I get about 4 movies for the same price for my wife and I. We can then watch them whenever, and not pay $3 for a popcorn and $4 for a soda.
Much more enjoyable, and no kids around to bother me while I watch. -- Who needs a big mac?Get a Free Mini Mac!
If we can prove that their programs can run well under linux with just a few tweaks in how it speaks to the system (WINE is a compatibility layer), and possibly even explain to the company how to change their software to speak correctly, it makes it take a lot less of their time to release a native linux version, as they already know how to do it.
So if you help them help you, we've got native software on Linux. But, that's just my opinion.
CopyScape can do the recognizing of copied stuff, but it's purpose is only finding website plagarism. This, however, would definately find all the wikipedia forks unless it's a really old copy and the page has had a major rewrite.
If google could integrate copyscape into their search, you would be happy.
And in previous mentions it was revealed that it was not made by the SuprNova crew, as it was stated in this inaccurate blurb. It is just promoted by the ex-owner of SuprNova.
On the "discern between unimportant stuff and cc stuff", I know in Norton AV (and I think, somehow, in Firefox) you can tell it what your personal data is, such as credit cards etc. I've never used it, but I think this allows it to go "Hey, You just sent your credit card encryption via an insecure connection. I'm going to have to say no, until you confirm that you want to ignore that and do it anyway."
I suppose you could install Deep Freeze and have it reboot nightly. A really big "Thaw Space" and their windows install is (relatively) secure, as it won't be able to keep viruses/bugs, and will reset nightly/rebootly.
It's askin to having a small windows partition and a large data partition, except the windows partition resets itself every reboot.
It's kind of intriguing, isn't it, when the MPAA and RIAA is to scaring us into believing that the world of unauthorized copying is filled of dodgy-dealers stuffing the files with all kinds of polluted malware and pop-ups, that they're also paying the people who do the stuffing?
It was a segment on his show, but it really was more about 'oh look, i found this supermodels website, here's some pix' than 'girls in technology'. I don't have high expectations. The funny thing is, I'm a cableone subscriber (pity me) and I got their "plus package" solely for TechTV. Looks like I'll be dropping that soon.
Yes, I thought about how I worded it wrong after I posted it, but thought it best to just hope people didn't get uptight over the fact that currently, it's just proposals. The link I gave even showed that it was just a proposal, but as it was old news it could have been viewed as "it was the future back then".
Did you miss Save Betamax?
Just checking.
I suppose it's time to advertise the gmailomatic before the 30 days expires. Tell your friends, as now is the time to get gmail.
The Apple "OS" has the games that I like, or at least find myself playing more than others. That is, Blizzard games. <3
I'm betting Halo for mac beats Halo for PC, because Gearbox "pwned" everyone.
Anyway here's a list of mac games and articles about them such as World of Warcraft (which, yes, works with Cedega, but I can't get the free CVS to work properly on Knoppix HDINSTALL, any help there?)

You seem to have missed the history page. You can see past versions of the page, and usually comments give hints as to when it had a major rewrite.

Here's a web page explaining it in detail, and yes, it works as I described it seems.
I suppose you could install Deep Freeze and have it reboot nightly. A really big "Thaw Space" and their windows install is (relatively) secure, as it won't be able to keep viruses/bugs, and will reset nightly/rebootly.

Didn't you ever watch Stargate? You send a robot through first. Al Gore is a robot, right? Yeah...
I'll keep that in mind.
- Audio formats supported: AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 (32 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible, AIFF, Apple Lossless and WAV
- Upgradable firmware enables support for future audio formats
The second bullet leaving the possibility there, but the page lists it as currently (meaning iPod users now, popularity etc) not supporting it.Read the rest of TFA?

I think that's where the "evil" part comes from.
Checking out the responses, it looks noone watched "Unscrewed with Martin Sargent".

Also, did anyone notice DanHuard's little blog post about TSS having fake calls is now gone? He's emptied his blog for some reason.
