Spammers aren't going to be able to afford big legal battles because spam is not a profitable industry. The only reason that the spammers can afford to do it is because spam is as cheap as free advertising. Not because it is an incredibly effective medium. Imagine, (heaven forbid) what would happen to spammers if the postal service attached a surcharge, even of half a penny, to all emails. Spam would die sooner than Ben Affleck's carreer after "Daredevil".
Spyware however, is a bigger problem because that is a profitable business because it is also a cheap medium to obtain valuable sell-able information. They are quickly amassing the money to come into the open and begin their tyranny in courts. However, I expect to see very strict legislation emerge about putting things on people's computers without their consent (with a new definition of "Consent" emerging, excluding cookies and non-executable temps).
Spam and Spyware raise questions that simply must be answered eventually.
They wanted desperately to compete with the NY times and all the other rather strong newspapers in the area with with their watered down version of a paper that is meant for people in LA. I wonder why no one wanted to read it.
What the LA Times was trying to do would be like Linux developers to trying to find their niche among old people.
As before, there will be a short 'format war', maybe even shorter this time, say 6 months - and low and behold every product will sudenly start supporting every format - just like they did when DVD burners became popular.
That is an expense companies can not afford to dump on consumers. The time between the new format and the old format is far too close. DVD's are now only truly beginning to become the accepted media. Games are still published on CD for PC a fair amount of the time. The consumer will revolt if they are forced to pay the exorbitant amount to have a multi-function player when they don't even understand the differences in the two types of media. That is why this war is truly a war. Consumers are not going to be pleased that DVDs are getting dumped so fast.
With Playstation 3 already having thrown its support to the blu-ray discs I think that it is most likely that it will win, the PS3 will be the first player to support a new media. That will give the blu-ray an automatic foot hold in the country.
I am a Mormon too. It turns out that Mormons are the only religious group where as education increases so does religiousity. I not only believe in evolution but find it to be in line doctrinally with my church.
Just because we are Christian certainly does not prevent us from seeking erudition and scientific knowledge
Pseuodo scientists have determined that all progress and research is very deadly AND will kill us. They are all recommending that we "leave the Martians alone and go home and read the bible."
I think it has to do with a deep-seatesx psychological perception of self-inadequacy. Such people perhaps have never had the chance to be in charge or to be in a position of power and so instead of playing the game like everyone else, they feel the need to cheat to obtain a position of power. Doing stupid things that piss everyone off give such persons a feeling of power and importance based upon the attention they receive, even though it is negative. This syndrome does not just appear in cheaters, but in the kind of people who steal planes just to steal planes in Battlefield and who flashbang their team every chance they get in CounterStrike.
It is rooted in a deep need for attention which they most like receive little or none of in real life. This problem, to use Freudian terms, would be called a "Smacktard Complex" driving people to do rude, annoying and stupid things just to anger those around them. It gives them feelings of power and supplies them with attention as they deeply desire. So, everytime you ignored that idiot at school or at work, a cheating smacktard was born.

Intel spends more money on throwing galas than on making good system architecture.

If only they used these robots to record the dance moves from Napoleon Dynamite......
Good heavens, there is money to be made.
Someone call Sony.
I mean seriously, these people build super robots, then teach them to dance? Couldn't we at least get them to do my laundry?
I, for one, welcome our new robotic overlords. -It had to be said.
