Deffinitely. I opened an account back (about one month ago) when it was news that wave had come out of beta.
I had a look at it and even played with it trying to setup a meeting for an actual project I am working on. Unfortunately I decided not to go with it due to the awkward interface.
Right now we do our conferences using skype or Flash Meeting. I have also used DimDim for when you fancy doing a presentation or having video feed of everyone else (DimDim is just OK albeit a bit slow).
In Wave I found it to cumbersome to prepare a meeting, specially aimed to scientists who do not have time to be tinkering with the darn technology. We usually work with one-click solutions (doodle, DimDim direct link, etc).
IMHO Google has already fire two of their bullets and missed great deal with Buzz and Wave. Nobody really cares about these two technologies because there are already other easier and more familiar ways to do the same.
And on a more serious note... what does the people who want the UK Hacker extradited and tried in the USA think of this?... after all the crime was commited in Pakistan (showing drawings of Teh Propeth) no?
I assume that's mainly because of the disk capacity.
Originally Microsoft's HD-DVD was going to increase the disk capacity and hence the graphics... but after HDDVD went away they were left with two choices, DVD or Bluray Disc... and going Bluray disc was mainly conceding defeat against Sony.
Funny how people perceive the past with a distorted view.
I loved the NES and the SNES but the fact is that Nintendo tactics during those days where really bullish against developers. Just the "if you release for NES you can't release for another console" shit was completely insane.
Fortunately healthy competition has brought a lot of options today. Back in my day it was either the Nintendo or the Sega. All the others (Turbo Graphics 16, NeoGeo,etc) where completely out of the selection. Right now with the same amount of money ($300) you can get a version of any of the 3 consoles, and the games cost the same (this last bit pissess me off about the Wii... the games were supposed to be cheaper but now you see Mario Galaxy 2 game costs the same as a PS3 game!!)
My problem is that so few games are designed with the PC in mind today.
Think Strategy games.... RTS, TBS, or simple Sim-whatever games. I have yet to see a good console game of this genre, and I would gladly buy a good one for the Wii if it was available.
Wow, I gave a fast read to the Wikipedia article about Leo Szilard... this snippet caught my attention:
During 1932, Szilárd had read about the fictional "atomic bombs" described in H. G. Wells's science fiction novel The World Set Free. This inspired him to be the first scientist to examine seriously the science of the creation of nuclear weapons.
Too bad science fiction is a dying literary genre (real science fiction, not fantasy or SciFi).
Ostensibly whatever it is Valve is going to be revealing at E3 is going to be a game, a new game perhaps or something like that. Either way it's hard to get exited about.
OMG Sherlock, have you got inside info or something? You mean that what a game publisher company will reveal at an Electronic Entertainment Expo is... wait for it, a video game. Man, you really got amazing inference skills!
Now, that you do not get excited about that only means that you do not care about such type of entertainment; but hey, that's a completely different stories.
Bah! as always, Sony keeps imitating Nintendo. I played 3D games in the original NES almost a quarter of a century ago. That's REAL 3D games... as real as what GP called real (using some type of glasses)
Now, regarding holographic games, I remember playing such an arcade game around 1991
That is the reason iPad and iPhone got it right. People are developping new apps which main interface IS the touch screen. Most of them are not adaptations of old apps but they are built from the ground up.
The problem with Open Source apps is that a lot of them will have to be heavily modified to use the point and click interface and that won't be pretty.
Most video games have stories that straight-to-DVD movies would be ashamed of*.
Other than that it is because Uwe Boll makes 90% of game movies.
*The games with good stories general can not compress a 20-40 hour experience into an hour thirty.
Time compression has happened in the film industry for a long time. Just look at how many films have been done from books. Not all of them are good, and presumably reading the book is always better. However, you have films Shutter Island or LOTR which were good adaptations of the books.
I agree with you main points. The basic premise of a film is to tell a story. What kind of story can you get from a PvP hack and slash game (Mortal Kombat) or from Mario Bros?
IMHO they should make PORN movies out of games. Both share a common thing (as John Carmack said): "Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important.":)
Those RIAA bastards owe me two corneas, one lung and a colon because they could potentially obtain such organs if they were in the organ cloning business.
They are also guilty for all the poor children in Africa to get food, because they could potentially give them food.
And they have even lost like a hundred fingers due to the fact that they have not been provided by cloned fingers from the medical system.
In summary, these RIAA assholes should understand that a "potential" event does not directly equates to getting the outcome of such event.
Shit, I hate economists and their "potential" gains and losses.
Shit... I've modded up, ill have to undo my mods on this.
Hello, I am a WiiFit and Wii Motion-Plus buyer (2 motion plus in fact). For me, these two are indeed a fail.
They are only a gimmick and are not entertaining... sure, I do Wii Fit Plus once in a while but meh, it is not entertaining... also Wii Sports Plus (or whatever it is called... currenty gathering dust in my drawer) is also very gimmicky.
IF there are good games (third party usually, or first/second party with good quality) using Natal or Move technologies, it can be the "Nintendo Killer".
But of course, it all depends on THE FUCKING GAMES!!. I am curious how, now that Sony and Microsoft *finally* arrived to the next generation console gaming, how is it going to develop:)
At least for me, since I tried one of the first versions of KDE in my desktop and I saw how broken it was.
Everytime I see a new relase in slashdot, I test the brand-new KDE 4.X release inside a virtual machine.... and until now everytime I giggle at the brokeness of the thing. I am a happy camper with Win7 and Gnome. But I REALLY enjoyed the KDE 3.x releases and I love (with all my heart) QT (it is an graphical API done _RIGHT_!).
But meh, I will continue testing KDE in my virtual machine and will continue laughing at how broken it is.
Firefox TreeStyle tabs is one of the things I love most about firefox. That, in addition to anothe extension that lets you put the menu bar as a single drop-down menu button at the left of the back-forward nav. buttons.
Such config make it really nice for widescreen monitors.
Now I am only waiting for Gnome or KDE to have bars that do not suck when positioned vertically. Sor far the standard WindowsXP bar is the only one that seems to get it right.
I agree with you, I do not see any problem in skipping the protocol indicator for an application that is supposed to work under one protocol 99% of the times.
On the other hand, can you believe Google Chrome does not have Print Preview function?? that is hilariously less functionality that Intnernet Explorer [waaaaiiiit for it...] 6.
No we didn't; I didn't at least. At every opportunity I quoted "nothing to fear but fear itself," said that if we caved into f
For all practical matters, yes you did. I guess you were one of those people that came to slashdot to argue why the security theater was a stupid thing.
Meanwhile all the people that were in favor of the security theater contacted their representatives or made other SIGNIFICANT actions that reassured the government's plan.
Yah, that is the problem with winning in random Interwebs forums... it usually does not have any effect =o(
This shit of "getting bitten by what you say on facebook" is really getting out of conrol.
In theory Facebook is a site where you communicate with a circle of friends for non-job related issues. Whatever I say on my facebook should not in any circumstance affect my job... shit, I could say I am a pedophile and it should NOT influence my job status.
The fact that such a comment could rise red flags so that the governmetn starts an investigation is another thing. But the type of communication happening in Facebook should be taken similar to conversation that happens when you find your random friend in the street and tease/joke/talk with him.
Moreover, just because it can be, it does not mean it actually IS.
Wake me up when someone has built an interesting application/solution using the Wave platform.
So far I see a bunch of applications that are nothing more than gimmicks.

Well... I was very surprised to see an ICQ ad in German television. It seems people actually use AOL over here!
I haven't used ICQ since sheesh.. 2000 i think

Howdy cow... Steve Jobs reality distortion field is growing stronger than even!
I guess that for the kids who have been around computers and IT just in the last 10 years, Jobs is the inventor of all electronic devices.
OK, I'll shut up and keep laughing at how people spill the kool-aid while drinking more than they can

Hey! that's about the total of Mexico's GDP.
That a company could even think on getting that kind of money is really freaking amazingly and completely loco.
