Why would you like to save to disk a movie you are already streaming?

If you want to download the movie to see later, see it in another place or whatnot just use bittorrent. That is faster! and equally "right".

No, it is not only prompting. In fact it is something that Microsoft WIndows XP (what I am using now) already does:

    FTF Patent:

In one embodiment, the tools present a user interface identifying an account having a right to permit a task in response to the task being prohibited based on a user's current account not having that right. By so doing, the user may elevate his or her rights without having to search for or type in an account name.

It is what happens when you want to install whatever software in XP under non-admin account. XP pops up a dialog (present a user interface) listing the available users, and automatically selecting the administrator account (identifying an account having a right to permit a task).

After this, the user must write the admin password to execute whatever action.

Sudo does it in a different way, only requiring the use to type his *own* password I guess to validate that he is not a machine. FWIW I prefer Sudo.

I used to have Rottweiler dog when I was younger. It was a real nice dog and very very sweet. However, everytime you got it out to jog, people would keep their distance from the dog. I guess they seem quite impressive.

Until one day while we got it out for a walk, a woman saw it and very quickly approached and started to pet the dog. Our first reaction was of concern, but the lady told us that she was not worried because she had Rottweilers before and she knew they are very nice sweet dogs.

To this day, I would *never* think of doing the same when I see a Rottweiler walking in the street... they do seem dangerous and badass hehe

    Agreed. CS PhD here.

I have been reading the "Power Presenter" ( http://www.amazon.com/Power-Presenter-Technique-Strategy-Americas/dp/0470376481 ) to improve my presentation skills.

I was surprised in the wrong way when preparing y first demonstration course during my PhD years in the UK. It seems everyone uses overhead slides for *all* lectures (every single day).

Having studied my undergraduate courses in a public university in Mexico, I was raised by chalkboard and (if you were lucky to get the room) whiteboard lectures.

Whiteboard in my opinion encourages the interaction between student and teacher. Of course I do remember a teacher whose "teaching" consisted in turning the back to the students and write in the blackboard whatever chunk of text he had prepared the night before (or maybe 5 years ago).

Another issue that saddened me from the UK was the lack of communication between the teacher and the students. I remember becoming good friend with several of my teachers during undergrad. In the UK, as each class has more than 50 students, the teacher only goes to the classroom, talks his slides and gets out of the room. If there are any assignments they are usually explained in the last slide.

But I guess that different types of education are suitable for different types of people.

Hello, I think you should go slower on the caffeine.

Other than that, you offer some interesting uses of augmented reality. I would like to offer another:

A month ago or so I went to Rome for vacation. During my visit I was lucky enough to enter the Roman Forum. While I was visiting, I had a book guide on hand, which provided me (and my wife) with really interesting information.

Although we did not get an audio guide (don't even remember if it was available to rent), I think this kind of places would *really* benefit from things such as augmented reality.

Imagine that you put your glasses before entering the forum (or coliseum). The technology is a combination of really-good GPS (knows your exact position, orientation, etc) and 3D modelling/animation.

With the glasses, you can stand in any place within the forum while looking at the ruins and at the press of a button you would turn on a graphics layer which showed you the complete buildings as they were originally.

If you were in the Colliseum, you would get a similar view, in addition, you may be able to get a nice video recreating a day in the colliseum.

That could be used for the majority of archeological places. Such as Mayan/Aztec, Roman and Greek ruins.

In addition, it could be used for places such as ex-concentration camps (I've recently been to Buchenwald).

My take is that, more than a service to rent from the site administration, this may be delivered by a specialized company which sells to you the Augmented Reality glasses along with an ipod touch like program.

I find the NoSQL appraoch stupid.

Although as they say in TFA, NoSQL is more of a "Not Only SQL" more than "No Sql at all", I think people should make a difference between the "Structured SQL Language" ;-) and the implementation.

SQL is only a language ("artificial language designed to express computations that can be performed by a machine, particularly a computer"), used to query data from some place.

I am sure that a lot of the problems the guy is talking in his blog can be solved by using the appropriate backend technology. There is stuff like RAID for data replication, faster access, etc. There surely are other solutions for transparent distribution of data (say, a layer between the MySQL driver and the actual data) and the like.

Also, NetBeans does not let you order packages in a hierarchical way (i think that changed in the last version) and UML support is better in Eclipse.

Both can do subversion, but I find it more difficult to set it up in Eclipse.

I was thinking about getting a Wii. Are all the games really like the ones I see every once and a while on TV? Blocky, bright, childish looking? Or are there any decent games out there?

All first party Nintendo games have very simple graphics (childish looking). Gameplay is kind-of-fun but they get old.

There are some "2nd party" games which have OK graphics (absolutely nothing like Xbox or PS3).

The majority of games want to have the "party" theme, and they end being a bunch of stupid mini-games where you have to shake the Wiimote in one way or another.

The Wii balance board is OK but other than Wii sports/plus (which consists also on a set of minigames) there is nothing really interesting.

The Motion Plus is just OK. I got 2 + sports resort and think it is Nintendo Ripof. It doesn't add anything new to the gameplay.

All in all, I still think that Nintendo technology is good and promising (motion plus, balance board) but with very poor games.

As for the "mature games". As the article states, HoD Overkill is OK but very short and easy. The Conoduit is just your average FPS (and it is supposed to be "the best" FPS for the Wii... which is sad).

At home, the 80% of time we have the wii turned on is to use MPlayerCE (watch movies or tv-series episodes) and playing Snes9X GX.

Oh, and the game I waited for (Worms) was a disaster; it is completely horrible.

Summing up, as the guy form Zero Punctation put it "Wii games are made for retards". (just take a look at the Wii games stand next time you go to the game shop.
