They must be fools then because being athiest has nothing to do with morality, it's more or less disbelief in God and disregard for religion in general. Morality and ethics still exists for athiest, just on a personal, not organizational level.
I'm sorry but all of these conspiracy theories floating around seem completely ridiculous to me. If I were to guess why the government is recommending we patch Windows, I would say it's because they got hacked just a few weeks ago and there was an article on slashdot about it. This is probably their lame way of covering up or making things right again, even though anyone who cared has obviously forgotten about it by now anyway. Microsoft's advice to them on how to not get hacked was probably along the lines of "patch Windows regularly" and they probably bought it. Now the Government says to the Vulnerable Public, have no fear! We have it figured out! It happened to us too, but we know you need to patch things!
I for one am glad that someone's identity was found from all of this, and I am glad that people are still able to go through that database of searches. Before anything will change, unfortunately, some big things are going to have to happen. I hope more people are identified and that it creates a media storm. Most people don't know or care about this story yet, and if they do hear about it they'll go 'oh, the information was taken down. and it's not me. ok then.' and they'll go on with their lives.
Someone important needs to be identified by their searches, and sue. In fact, it would be best of many people sued. And I hate to be so cynical, but the only way I see any real changes being made by AOL and other search engines would be if someone were identified by their searches, and something terrible happened to them as a result. I feel sorry for the person who this will inevitably happen to, but I also hope that a good change will come about as a result.
First, the Universe can move faster than the speed of light, and it is speculated that it did just that at a certain point during its expansion. This does not break physics because the light is all containd inside of the universe, it's not as if something is moving alongside of light, yet faster. I haven't worked out any math but this is probably what is messing up everyone's math when they say wait, the universe can't be that wide!
Secondly, there is no edge of the universe. We are simultaneously at the middle, the edge, and everywhere in between if you believe the current theories.
Third, you cannot leave the universe, because there is nothing beyond it yet. There is no space or time beyond that point, because reality or whatever you want to imagine it as, has not moved to that point in space time as of yet.
just another nail in the coffin of dark matter/energy.
wait, there's something here we didn't account for! oh yes, planets....dust... some black holes maybe... etc..
ok so there's something significantly smaller we didn't account for!
maybe random events like this in our universe could cause more of our figures to be wrong? sounds more plausible than slapping an impressive name on a mystery.
I heard before that MS employees almost never get a raise though, as compared to how often people with similar jobs do. So it's not necessarily how much they make that is an issue, but how much their pay continues to raise in relation to the economy.
I'm really not sure how playing army games will help them with PTSD. If anything, I would suspect it would make them a nervous wreck.
My parents went through a year of REALLY BAD fighting and I believe I had some mild form of PTSD myself, and would jump/ my heart would race whenever I heard a door slam, or a loud bang, or anyone at all yelling. Even a sudden voice that was somewhat loud would temporarily panic me. I can't believe that watching people yell in real life or on tv or a game would calm me. The only thing that worked was having some nice peaceful time for a year or more and slowly convincing myself I was safe.
How exactly will triggering nasty images help the soldiers to recover?
I'm a college sophmore w/ plenty of money in the bank. I have never invested in anything and there are A LOT of small things I've done to make money.
1- Sell most of your stuff that you don't use at some sort of yardsale.
2- If you can make something and profit, do it. hemp jewelry, cookies, etc.
3- Sit in a public place doing something odd and w/ a cup out for money. You're not begging, you're entertaining, so it brings a fair amount.
4- Sell some sort of home-made comic book or newspaper for something like a quarter. Everyone has a quarter and many people are interested.
5- Try selling hugs for a quarter in a public place. Sounds corny but people think it's cute. It works.
6- Get all the free stuff you can: Don't buy napkins, toilet paper, or tissues. These are all available other places. If you go to a school cafeteria, bring a tupperware with you now and then and save food for later. Go to free food events on campus.
7- Don't use a car until you NEED to. Try to plan your life around public transportation. Go as long as you can without owning a car.
8- Reconsider any entertainment needs. Stop buying new games or going out to the movies. Again, start looking for free events. NEVER eat at a resteraunt if you can avoid it, unless there is some sort of free food there for college students. (Subway did this once at my campus).
9- Don't try investing in anything unless you're sure you'll make money. Even something like selling on Ebay can backfire and make you lose money.
Looking at the fruit is simple enough for the basics: apples, oranges, probably most berries. But what about the more exotic fruit? I haven't the slightest idea what a ripe or overripe star fruit looks like.
I've only had one episode of recursive deja vu, where I had felt something happened repeatedly and knew it couldn't have. However, I've had recursive deja vu in dreams, where mid-dream I feel I've dreampt that before many times.
I get regular deja vu quite frequently. I also see things in real life and realize I have dreamed about the exact same situation or place, often. One time I had thought I had heard a story someone was telling while they were telling it. I recalled this so clearly that I stopped them and finished the entire story before they could, to prove my point. They gaped, and said it had only happened that day, there was no way I could have known that. Then I realized that my "memory" of the event had never happened, and I noticed I had two separate memories for that period in time. That's why I don't necessarily throw out the idea of psychic ability being connected to deja vu. Of course, "psychic" is tacked onto anything unexplainable anymore....
I was always taught that when unsure, the easiest rule to tell whether to use *I* or *me* is the following:
If the pronoun comes before the verb use *I*, and it it comes after the verb in the sentence, use *me*. Probably not a hard and fast rule (like all rules in the English language). However, it has always saved me some time and puzzlement.
Just like the book, soon we will realize that as we have evolved from Neanderthols due to an ancient virus trapped in our DNA, so will the next group evolve from us. And they'll have neat colored patches of skin, and can say several sentences at once. o.O

While I agree with you that the word Beta may be overused a bit lately, I don't think that having more "beta" products than before is necessarily a bad thing. How many times have companies put out products that *should* have been labeled Beta but weren't? (ex, Windows). At least by tacking Beta on the end the company is admitting that there may still be substantial amounts of bugs for them to fix.
Then again, "Beta" is an easy cop-out to cover up bugs they didn't realize were there - and if they leave "Beta" tacked onto the name long enough I start to wonder if the company ever meant to fix remaining bugs or not.
i have heard it argued before that india is possibly the most democratic nation in the world. when i hear things about their last election, and now this, i can see why people might say india is so democratic.
actually, SAD does not mean you get depressed when it is darker out. there are two forms of SAD, one for the winter and one for the summer, basically. it is seasonal affective disorder because the seasons affect your moods to such extremes. the winter depression is more common, but not the only form of the disorder.
wow, that's a crazy concept...... i saw that in star trek once. i cant remember if it was first generation or next generation, but either way im guessing they stole the concept?
dropping the price significantly would definately increase revenue. the school newspaper sold next to nothing (literally, like only 7 copies) when the price was (50 cents? i think..). i had them drop the price to 25 cents and now people are more than willing to buy.
of course, i put more thought into it than simply dropping the price. the reason for this first of all, is no one will break a dollar until lunch. but secondly, after buying lunch everyone has 35 cents left. they're not going to find extra change or break a dollar. handing out a quarter for some entertainment is no big deal.
They must be fools then because being athiest has nothing to do with morality, it's more or less disbelief in God and disregard for religion in general. Morality and ethics still exists for athiest, just on a personal, not organizational level.
that wasn't flamebait, it was insightful.

Just my two cents.

I think it came from the flower that is called a pansy, comparing gay males to a delicate feminine flower.
