If you believe that you would not act, and think exactly the same then you believe Free Will is beyond quantum mechanics; otherwise Free Will is just the synergistic response to a complex organism that has the capability to think of itself.

Actually, no. Ignoring the no cloning theorem for a moment, if two particles are in the exact same quantum state, then they can collapse to two different values. This is precisely the indeterminacy of quantum mechanics.

I am also at Pitt but I study physics. We can either take the first two comp sci courses (intermediate programming and data structures) or take chem 1 and 2. However, everyone is required to take the computational methods course which, like the grand parents course at CMU, uses VPython. Unfortunately, most people opt for the chem sequence so that the computational methods course spends too much time, IMO, on programming basics (loops, arrays, conditionals, etc.) instead of devoting it entirely to writing physics simulations. However, Python and VPython are pretty easy to pick up so it wasn't that bad.

  3. Re:Is YouTube really an appropriate platform? on Putting Anti-Evolution Candidates On the Spot · · Score: 1

I agree. Further it is ridiculous that a dichotomy has been set up between believing in evolution and being a religious nutcase and believing in intelligent design. The fact is that many people say they believe in evolution despite not having studied it more than superficially. Blindly accepting a theory is very unscientific.

It is not the same as asking if someone believes in gravity because evidence of evolution is not as plainly visible. Moreover belief in gravity usually just means believing that things fall to planets; not many lay people understand that there's a gravitational attraction between _everything_.

So better questions to ask would be about educational policies involving intelligent design and evolution, scientific funding, etc. It shouldn't matter whether the candidate believes in evolution.

The difference is that Fuddruckers embedded his flash file in their html while he redirected the visitors to the site with the slaughterhouse pics. Also, the purpose of that site is probably to make a statement about keeping people from eating food from places like Fuddruckers so it isn't unlikely that they welcomed the Fuddruckers traffic.

Also, most of the money being spent on these sports facilities is from money raised by sports teams. So don't look down upon athletics like how most of you think athletes look down on "smart people."
