Sounds like your the one who needs to do 5 minutes of basic research. The terms clearly state that he SHOULD be allowed to do what he wants to do. He was thwarted because they fumbled their DRM implementation that did not allow him to exercise his rights that their own terms clearly state he should have. Q) What is DRM? A) DRM stands for Digital Rights Management and is a technology that can help protect the copyright of artists and record labels by helping prevent illegal and unauthorised copying. Customers who buy tracks from this service can makepersonal CD copies of all tracks purchased and also transfer to their portablemusic players.

I bet the real reason the servers are down is because all those blizzard employees refused to have an RFID chip implanted and now they can't get in the data center:/
I guess the problem I have with creationists is that a strict literal interpretation of genesis and other parts of the bible is just plain silly, completely out of touch with the knowledge that man now has. Now a majority of creationists might now even share this point of view and claim it is meant more as a moral guide then a strict literal basis of fact. But why was it written so silly to begin with? Why did the majority of people prior to the modern time(and a minority of people in the present) cling to the belief that genesis was a tale of fact? Is it because these ideas were not so silly when the bible was written and were completely compatible with man's knowledge during the time the passages were authored? If that is the case, would it not suggest that the passages in question came in fact entirely from man and not a divine source? If the passages did come from man, than they would appear to be pure conjecture based on knowledge that is more than 2000 years out of date. Do any creationists see the same problem as me?
Isn't Underwriter Laboratories supposed to test these things in a dozen different scenarios? I bet it doesn't have a UL sticker on it. Can anyone with a xbox 360 confirm?
I'm sorry but people should not have to be trained in the "specific phrase" used to stop irrating calls. For years I said "Could you please stop calling me?" Oh, screw him, he did not use the phrase "remove me from your call list". You know damn well what I was asking for.
Death Penalty for hackers = Stupid. Plain and simple. I think even the person who said that thought it was extreme and was just trying to call attention to the problem.
But the comparison to graffiti is also not a good comparison. This is not mere graffiti. Lets look at the sasser worm for an example. It infects your system and tries to spread to any other system on the network/internet. Then system performance is seriously degraded as the worm tries to spread. Could also cause your system to reboot every 60 seconds. What would be an appropriate real world example?
Perhaps a virus that infects your car and causes it's maximum speed to slow to 10 MPH. Then it infects every other car you drive by and slows them down as well. Then you car restarts every 60 seconds. You can't remove the virus because you can't keep your car running long enough to effect repairs. So you spend $200 on a tow truck to have it hauled in and fixed. Millions of other people are in the same jam. This is not mere graffiti. Perhaps more like a million counts of destruction of personal property. The death penalty is not appropriate. But I definitely think some jail time is called for. I don't care if it's a stupid teenager who wasn't thinking of the consequences, give him a reduced sentence but let him spend some time in jail for his actions, he obviously needs some time alone to think about his actions.
I do think this only needs to be applied in extreme cases like virus/worm authors, web site blackmail, etc. Not someone using his neighbor's broadband or changing their school grade.
Seems to me like this company is going to tank within the next 2 years. Might be a good time to short their stock and hope for a delisting/bankruptcy.

I'm glad you guys are all having fun ripping apart the article. Yes we knew these consoles were over hyped, but I for one found the article to be informative. Now we know roughly how powerful these consoles are. Rougly twice the power of an original xbox, or roughly twice the power of a pentium III 733.
Time and time again I read online how it doesn't make sense to play games on an expensive PC when you can get a console instead. Don't want to pay $1000 every two years for a new PC? That $1000 dual Nvidia graphical system is a f!@# joke to you when you can get a new console once every 5 years for $300? Fine. Valid arguments. "acceptable" quality/performance at a "reasonable" price is certainly a good route to take. But don't expect to see quality and performance at the same levels as that new $1000 system. I think the line "You get what you pay for" sums it up nicely.
Actually, worldwide sales indicate xbox is in 2nd place and gamecube is in third. Not exactly a distant 3rd, but 3rd nonetheless.

Couldn't they just stick a large capacitor or small battery on the harddrive that is only used for flushing the write cache to the platters in the event of a power failure? It should be a simple enough matter, we only need a few seconds here, and it would solve this whole mess.
Actually you can get an integrated HDTV wuth 2 tuners for $750 here: http://www.pac-2000.com/c32v37.html
Now if this is still too much money for you that is fine, just don't be quoting $18,000 prices when the sets are nowhere near that price anymore.
If I recall correctly, Einstein started to believe in "Intelligent Design" later in life from a non-religious view point. Apparently he found it harder and harder to swallow that all of the intricacies in his work came about from any kind of random pattern and started to believe an intelligent hand must have guided it for it to have come together the way it did.
If it makes you feel any better, I disable JavaScript and java too. And I don't blame the technology. Flash is a tool like a hammer. Unfortunately, every time I walk into a website, I get whacked with that hammer. So I started Removing the hammer from the hands of all those would-be whackers, and at the same time removed it from those poor soles who just wanted to use it to help me pound some nails. Ah well, such is life.
First off, the reasons they site for wanting to pull the plug on Bittorrent are bogus. If they insist on a court ruling making p2p legal in the US, it has already happened: http://www.sharmannetworks.com/content/view/full/3 01 Second, if they change their C&D letter to something more like: "The bittorrent protocol is being used by some users for substantial copyright infringement. Due to the potential legal liability this places the University in, We have decided we will no longer be allowing bittorrent usage on our networks. We regret this decision, but we simply cannot afford a lawsuit at this time."
Now this would sound like a much better C&D letter. It would still piss me off, but then it's their network.
From the article: No, you cannot burn it to a dvd and watch in in your home theater system, it is in the proprietary wmp file format. Also, the file is not "yours" after you download it, you have 24 hours to watch the file after which it is useless.
Didn't mention download speeds, but I am guessing they will be very good as it is a paid service.
Personally I would not touch these services with a 10 foot pole. I can go into the video store and buy a movie for $20, or use netflix and rent unlimited movies for $18, I am not going to be locked into these evil proprietary formats that only let me view the file for 24 hours. Just give an iso to download so I can *own* it and burn it to dvd, knock $10 off the price for the hassle of downloading it and buring it, and charge $10 for it.
BTW, I would not call movie files opening up web browsers a "loophole" in Media player. Microsoft was actively prompting this as an "advertising feature". Yet one more reason I will not touch media player anymore.
Just because a "arms race" may be brewing, don't jump the gun and assume the content providers will win. Already there have been many skirmishes in the coming battle. As popup blockers have grown to become a significant threat, some sites starting putting anti-popup blocker software on their websites. In response, I modified my proxomitron filters to get around the anti-popup blocker. Now currently am I still part of the "elite minority", but I have no doubt similar skirmishes will happen as add blockers and ant-add blockers go mainstream.
How about: Google, GMail, subscriptions for premium content, revenue for sharing traffic,
or how about just plain old, non intrusive add banners that don't jump up in my face?
Why would you want me to help come up with ideas on how to effectively advertise anyway?
As a consumer, I try to stay on alert for dubious advertisements and debunk their baseless claims or common advertising techniques.
As far as the WWW not existing in it's present form before advertising, please, please, please bring back the old internet before advertising:)
Have you tried an air horn? They usually stop calling me after my air horn has talked to them for a few seconds.

Yes I used to worry about that too. Then I saw how fast OSX X86 was cracked and don't think TPM will be a problem.
I always thought those signs that show your speed were contests and you have to try and beat the guy in front of you.

That begs the question, why hasn't anyone used one?
