"Pennsylvania?" To this day.. there is a machine shop, a rather large and profitable shop with a number of cnc machines, that runs a serial network and has an os/2 server archiving and feeding the operators programs to whatever machine they are assigned. The system works flawlessly, 'cept when a new GM calls a MCSE to "repair" it. When I was local, it was a sure couple of hours to clean up the mess...
The easiest way is to make a superior product, which GM fails at. Isn't NUMI enough proof, it's not the workers, it's the managers? Toyota took a failing GM plant, slapped together Corollas, or Prism's... what ever you choose to call them. All in less then 6 months. Toyota is on the top because they build a quality product, stand by it and when it's bad due to design, they just f'n fix it and GM looks at it like an opportunity to rape their clients (yet again).
Have a think about which dark corner of society would benefit if everyone starts being hostile towards the police.
I didn't say to be hostile. Be extra, extra polite but don't waive your rights. Don't answer questions, don't authorize searches, don't listen to their threats, ask if you are under arrest or are being detained.
Respond with "Good day Officer" or "Officer unfortunately I am unable to assist you further without my counsel, thank you for understanding."
If you talk to the police without consul, during an investigation you have waived your rights and demonstrated to the police that you are an idiot, not honest or friendly. They are not your friends. The do not have to tell you the truth. When asked to waive my rights by an officer of the law I respectfully tell them that I am unable to waive them without the advice of an attorney. That pisses them off and they usually start threatening warrants and other harassment.
"With respect for your position sir, I respectfully decline any more communication without an attorney present, and understand you have a job to do, please proceed with what you have to do. Am I under arrest or are you detaining me? If so please provide consul. If not have a nice day!"
I have been doing this for the past 6 months. Much easier to turn my N95 into an ap to use another's notebook then to install a bluetooth or cable connect. My data plan, unlimited 3.5g @49.000COP (about 20usd) monthly.
"these people are horribly incompetent and have horrible customer service"
Say what you will, but they are the ONLY ISP who didn't roll over and provide their customers info to the RIAA. Theyd fought for their customers right of privacy to the Supreme court and PREVAILED.
That the carrier has no alternative when he is carrying clothing, papers and other physical items. As far as data is concerned it is unnecessary for the owner of the data to have a copy. It's trivial to cross boarders electronically, anonymously, and privately. That, in it self should negate the right of customs to browse hard drives for data.

In this day and age... that means something.
Liberal IP and fair use laws, public notice and awareness of State side (**AA) bullying, decent bandwidth availability fair privacy laws.
I don't believe for 1 minute that the "encryption" included with Skype is secure or should we say "escrow key free", do you?
Here's the C&D that was decisioned. They haven't managed to take this down. Then again, it's now part of the public record.

So, how exactly is revealing a password any more incriminating than say, allowing police into your home -which is "standard practice"?
Not in my home, sans warrant. Neither do I talk to any governmental
official sans legal representation.

Corporations will have to figure out other streams of income.
Who woulda thunk?
Yea... What about the cost expended on the 12 they purchased? Where are the damages for that expense comming from?
And if they refuse to provide their "special" pricing walk away. I used to have to do it frequently, now it's rare. One less profiling device.
Most likely it's a matter of an agreeable definition of death.
