I hope and wonder if people who subscribe to print/paper version will get free online access. If they don't it will be pretty greedy. I believe Wall Street Journal provides free online with a paper subscription.
Aren't all big screen flat panel TVs HDTV at this point? FYI, there are so few makers of plasma now (samsung and Panasonic) that any plasma is as good or better than the best LCDs(led backlit are probably about same and better depending on situation) so picking any plasma is a safe bet for a fantastic TV.
I am new to the HTPC world. I tried XBMC and Boxee. I found XBMC user interface design confusing to configure it and get it actually working. Boxee (yes it's based on XBMC) automatically did everything for me like an appliance. XBMC i couldn't even get the darn thing to scrape properly, the configuration is confusing (haha, that wiki instruction is a joke) , and nothing just worked as easily in Boxee. In 10 minutes I figured out in Boxee how to setup the directories, and it did all the rest (all the video art etc was setup and categorized movies vs tv shows for me). Xbmc, I wish I could have even got that far.
Now I am sure XMBC is great, so please point me to some idiot setup process instructions, but XBMC feels like work to get it working...boxee not at all.
No problems using data and voice at the same time on my treo on the sprint network, sounds like a BB issue rather than a sprint/CDMA issue.

In all seriousness, you likely misunderstood the posters statement. When using CDMA, you can't have a CDMA carry data at the same time you are talking. This doesn't mean your Treo can't do data over wifi while using voice on CDMA.

I'll be sure to get it jailbroken and on a network which isn't a complete pig."

Well you will have to enjoy edge speeds,because at least for Tmobile in the USA, it uses different 3g frequency than AT&T iphones. So it might be cheaper, but Tmobile will definitely be slower than on a 3g AT &T network.
OK, you got me there. Driving an SUV is an almost sure sign of a reduced intellect. They cost more to drive than any other class of vehicle, and more people die in them per passsenger mile than any other type of vehicle due to their poor handling and braking and high center of gravity and lack of crumple zones. SUV drivers drive badly not from lack of driving skill but because their vehicles suck. Plus, ask an SUV driver why they have it and they'll say "it carries so many passengers", but notice SUVs on the road and you'll see very few with more than the driver. If you carry passengers, get a minivan -- more passengers, better mileage, and they're the safest vehicles on the road.

Agree completely. And what about those of us who play games INSTEAD of watching the idiot box (TV). I think interactive online gaming is faaar more social than sitting staring at TV.
When will google learn that plugins, especially something like adblock, is the killer feature they need to attract the "willing to switch" audience, a lot of whom are using firefox right now. I personally love Chrome for its speed and stability, used it for a week or so, but then switched right back to Firefox because I just didn't realise how it is to do many things in Firefox with extensions such as adblock, no script, autopager, del.icio.us integration etc.

I am not someone who normally posts this sort of anti-google message as I actually LOVE google's applications, functionality, and the real threat they pose to Micro$oft! But even I am starting to get concerned about how willing people are to give away all privacy for a few "colored beads."
I love all the Google apps, but this is getting rediculous. Now they will have my email, cell phone number, and ability to track my movement. Data mine both to compare my email use and apps use against my movements. Be able to figure out who my friends are and what they are doing... etc
I guess I am just not their core audience which is probably teenagers? I have played with a few of these services and after some use realized I have no interest in seeing where my friends are moving nor transmitting my location continuously even to a select group of friends.
Yes, I know. They have "privacy" settings etc. But at some point one has to think of the bigger picture and say "enough is enough." There is absolutely no legal safeguards on this data. Who cares? Well how about that little trip to Planned Parenthood? Or your trip to a doctor to take care of that mysterious "rash."

Everyone on Slashdot harps on XP like it's this great OS, but it is NOT. I remember everyone here bitching about how about XP was compared to 2k (i.e. dog ass slow in comparison etc).
Frankly, if MS would have added decent USB support to Windows 2k, I would never have switched to XP.

I save at least $50 on T-mobile using an iPhone and unlocking it (my wife has one also, so it's a shared plan). ATT has taken advantage of the iPhone to tack on the $30 data plan per phone, which is quite a bit more expensive than most other plans with similar service.
I haven't fully decided if the iPhone penetration has reached a point where the government should be regulating them, but for ATT to argue that their deal really helps make things cheaper is bullshit.
Actually it's not. I assume you're comparing iphone on an EDGE network plan to a 3G speed network, so of course T-mobile is cheaper. I just finished pricing out comparable 3G speed plans and was shocked that Verizon was basically the same cost as AT&T for 3g. T-Mobile was about $10/month less than Verizon and AT&T for 3g, but heck T-mobile network is even worse than At&T:).
A lot of cell phone coverage issues are actually related to the cell phone. I found that a few Sprint phones i had were AWFUL, then would be sitting next to other people with spint whom had great reception.
I started researching signal strength on my next Sprint phone purchase, result the quality has been INCREDIBLE and I never get dropped calls.
Look to the phone as well as the cell phone tower for your troubles
I did a little experiment. I loaded up IE, hit the search button, typed something in, and ran the search. Whaddayaknow, Bing comes up with the search results. So every idiot that has the same Windows installed as the day they brought it home from Walmart with IE as the default browser and the little search button as their only gateway to the world is going to use Bing whether they know it or not. Apparently there are quite a few such idiots. Are we surprised?

Buy a $300 Dell loaded with bloatware and OEM garbage. Make sure it has at least Intel Core 2 Duo, two ram slots and a PCI-E video slot. Format the hard drive (getting rid of bloat and OEM garbage), upgrade to 4gb ram, buy a decent 3d video card (what are they now days, about $200 for a good one?). There's a $550 solution (if you already have keyboard, mouse, monitor).
It's worked well for me for well over 10 years now. If you have to go through the pain of owning a Windows based system, you might as well buy cheap, upgrade cheap, dispose of cheaply when it outlives it's gaming worthiness (about 2 years).
The problem with the cheap dells is the power supplies are often terrible. So you will need to also upgrade the pSU to get a decent video card to work...
Surely someone is going to point out the comparison to the original magic wand? I think this might prevent Micro$oft's patent as it came out in the 1970s??
I really like Android as concept. Unfortunately, in the USA the number of devices are not very appealing (the ones that are available). My carrier doesn't even have android phones. Strange, because the whole point of Android I figured was to allow manufacturers to focus on innovative cell phone designs. Maybe manufacturers will eventually make more phones with Android, but right now they are kinda lousy IMHO.
Until better hardware, the future is Palm Pre or iPhone
Mind you, my iPhone has no 160 character limit, I'm sure other smart phones just piece together the rapid recieving of messages in to one while the "dumb" phones display them in 160 character chunks.
I absolutely hate when my iPhone friends text me. I end up getting this stream of text messages that are received backwards and cause a lot of hassle just to understand the message on my cell phone.
It would be nice if the iPhone limited texts to 160 characters for those of us without the jesus phone (or a smart phone that supports it).

Tools > Add-Ons > Plugins > Disable all Microsoft plugins.. and Adobe Acrobat's, QuickTimes & anythiing else that looks suspicious
