A lot of comments seem to be saying that the school should just offer a set of requirements that the laptop must meet and then let the student choose whatever brand they want. The problem with that is that since the school *requires* laptops, they are also probably supporting the laptops. If that is the case they would be insane to support whatever the student decided to buy. They would have to standardize on one brand and stick with it just to keep the support headache to a minimum. I haven't read the article, so I don't know for a fact that the school does support the laptops. But I imagine they do....
I have a 3G iPod myself. A video iPod with a bigger screen and a touch screen would be very nice indeed. But it has been 30 years! There has to be more than just this. C'mon. Thoughts? Ideas?
Personally, I'm hoping for an Intel based Cube. Yea, I know it would compete with the mini. Just spin it as a super-mini or something. How much would you pay for a cube looking Intel based mac that is around the same size as a mini, but runs like an iMac without the screen?
Mind if I ask what the homebrew system was? Was there anything specfic about it that required so much maintenance? Or was it just one of those "One more thing that I have to tinker with..."?
Has anyone on here checked Ebay prices for 360's? Wow. Upwards of two to three grand, each. God I wish I had preordered a handful to resell. Pretty nice profit margin....
If you are running Active Directory, be sure to login with an account on the domain when you freeze it. Otherwise users have to change the domain field to the actual domain instead of the local machine name everytime they login. That tends to make some people cranky...
It depends on the software. Some of the stuff we use in the labs require admin rights to run properly.
Deep Freeze also makes IM, spyware, popup windows, etc a non-issue. We have the enterprise version. The machines reboot every night at 3 AM or so, which means students using them the next day always have a clean machine.
I'd had Windows images go wonky from lots of things, but I don't think I've ever had it start AFTER being frozen when it wasn't already doing before we froze them.
We use Ghost 8 where I work for rolling out new machines. It's a lifesaver when we replace a lab (I work in Higher Ed). However once the machines are in the lab, we "freeze" them with Deep Freeze. Unless the hard drive fails we never have to reimage them again. I don't know how the pricing for Deep Freeze will compare to the pricing for Ghost, but if you don't have to reimage them, don't. The URL for Deep Freeze is http://www.faronics.com/index.asp
Killing critters doesn't have anything to do with mining, tailoring or making potions. That is why killing stuff does not increase your profession skills.:-)
Sorry about the screwed up formatting. I guess that is what I get for not previewing. It should be:
Windows? Stable? Sorry but when you compare Windows to Linux on x86 or OS X on a current G4 or G5 Windows is going to loose (as far as which one of the three is the most stable). I've used all three OS's, and I make a living by supporting Windows boxen. Trust me on this....
So what does the move to Intel have to do with the current boxes being stable? I don't understand how you make that conclusion. Please explain.

Go ahead and buy the Macs now if you need them. Apple won't be dropping support of the PPC machines anytime soon. I'd like to get a Mini, and probably still will. Just because something newer comes out doesn't mean that your current machine turns into crap.
From the looks of things, maybe his server could use some cooling.:-) Looks like I might have the first post, and the link posted above is already gone.
It is the only fair thing to do.

It is the only fair thing to do since they pushed down the latest patches. A lot of high level gamers got that high level by cheating. The patches stop the exploits the cheaters used. Now the rankings have to be reset to get everyone back to a truly level playing field.
I hadd forgotten about those password. Now that I think of it, you are right. I had several games that "saved" by giving you a long password to enter. But Spirtual Warfare had the worst (longest) password of any of them.
Well maturing to the point that I can buy without worrying about whether or not it downscales to a proper HD resolution would be starters. Another point would be that the technology matures to the point that I don't have to drop a grand on technology that can't even scale properly.
Does anyone remember the old NES games that were Christian faith-based? One was a puzzle type game where you played Moses. Another was a Zelda type game with different armour representing the different aspects of faith.
I got them for Christmas one year, I don't remember the names. I wonder if anyone else played them? I've never saw them or heard them mentioned anywhere, ever.

Maybe because Microsoft doesn't care?
A "P5"? Hmm...where do you get those?
I have a Mot V551. I'm using a mp3 ringtone I made in Garageband. It works really well.
First post, and the site is already down. I wonder how long it will take benchmarks to show up that show how well the PSP runs various emulators?
It is worth pointing out that due to the moon's lower gravity, it would be easier to launch shuttles from the moon than to launch them from Earth.
Of course, you have to get from the Earth to the moon to start with...

If anything they would be descendants not ancestors. Remember that "Star Wars" happened a "Long Time Ago, In a Galaxy Far Far Away...."?
Here is the correct Elder Scrolls link to the IGN article. It currently links to IGN's Hellgate article.

For Windows and OS X, just use iTunes. How does something like this merit an "Ask Slashdot"?
Yep that is it. That game was hard.....
