Well for starters, you can wait until the technology matures a little. By doing that you can also save a lot of money, and you can learn from other peoples mistakes (see article above).
Granted, there are some companies/people who need this stuff NOW. I can't think of a good example, but I'm sure it exists. What I said above is more for the average consumer.
This is what you get when you buy a "major" appliance without doing your research first. I know if I was planning on dropping anywhere from $700-to over a $1000 on something, I would be sure to find out everything about it so I could make an informed decision. If someone didn't do that, then they got what they deserved.
That said, I'm sure there a lot of people out who "don't care". It works form them, and that is all they care about.
"may negate some of the issues surrounding the acquisition of knowledge"
Perhaps I am missing something but this makes it sound like there are people who are against this project. Other than some people objecting to this being a waste of time (I don't think it is), what else is there to be "negative" about? I mean the authors of these works have been dead for quite some time.
Someone might have replied to this farther down the thread, if so mod me down. If not, let me set a few things straight.
As I understand it:
Search: Spotlight is more than just your standard search tool. For the Unix-only types out there, think of it like this:
The Unix command "find" is like you standard search tool. It looks for certain files in certain places. Everyone who has ever used a computer can quickly understand the concept. Spotlight is more like the Unix command "locate". "locate" runs in the background indexing EVERYTHING. You can then use it for very fast seaches (because all of the hard work is already done). However "locate" won't find new files until it has had a chance to index them. Spotlight is a lot like "locate", except that it supports much more than just seaching by the file name. It can also seach by all sorts of meta-data.
Scripting: I believe you are referring to Automator. Think of it as Drag & Drop scripting. I don't know that much about it, but it sounds sweet.
RSS: RSS feeds in a browser are nothing new. However if anyone can put a neat twist on it that will leaving everyone wondering "Why didn't I think of that", it will be Apple
Info Display Panel: I think you mean Dashboard. Think of as a layer on top of your desktop just for handy widgets you would like to access with a click of a button. For what I have seen, it looks like it has iTunes and Sticky Pad widgets. I bet it comes with other ones as well.
Instant Messaging: No idea what they mean by that.
64 bit support: That sounds to me like they are adding 64 bit support to the OS.
I hope this clears a few things up for uninformed readers. I hope no one else as posted this info, I'd hate to get modded down.:-)
Ever played Phansty Star Online? Xbox Live is required for the single player, and you have subscribe to a third party service(in addition to having Live!) to play online.
But wouldn't creating the orginal game with the new graphics require a LOT of work? A game like this isn't created in a drag & drop "Game Builder" type application. Seems like a lot of work for a mere Easter Egg or Bonus Level.
You would be surprised to see what happens when developers don't have to write to high level API's. Look at Doom 3, Jade Empire, and the newest Unreal game on the Xbox. Those certainly don't look like they are running on a 733 MHz Celeron.
I have also heard that have a hard drive will enable backwards compatibilty with Xbox 1 games. I don't know if it is true, but I have heard it mentioned at a couple sites.
"Alice asks if such a game, helpful to the teaching of the young, should futz with the past the way it does."
How about kids learn history from History Books. It's a game. Let it be a game. If you are so worried about your kids learning incorrect historical facts, maybe should explain that games like that aren't meant to be realistic.
So just setup a random playlist that picks the songs based on the "Least Played" criteria. Every time you sync the iPod, you get different songs. Simple.
40 years ago the cylons left and were never heard from again until the mini-series. During those 40 years the Cylons found Earth and were "embraced" by the humans.
The humans of Earth have made several advances since the other humans left Earth a long long time ago to go to Kobol (sp?). For example, the humans of Earth have master cloning. That explains why there are copies. It also explains why Helio and Boomer were able to concieve. The human looking Cylons are really cloned Earth-Humans who found the robot cylons decades ago and decided to manipulate and control them somehow.
So now the the BG crew will finally get to Earth, only to find it is the Cylon home base!
That is my take on it, it may or may not be correct. What do you think?
I don't know much about the service, and the Ask/. post didn't say one way or the other about Mac's or PC's.
But has anyone tried.Mac for personal use? How is it? I'm thinking of signing up. Just wonder if anyone cared to comment on the web hosting and email part of it.
This is nothing more than a CEO complaining that Gamepro didn't "return the favor" and give a crappy game a good rating. He mentions that 3DO is/was a major advertiser for Gamepro, and that (paraphrasing) Gamepro should been a "better" friend and given the game a "better" score.

True, but I was talking about rebuilding the orginal game with the new graphics.

The FMV cut scene that involved the death of Aeris. That sucked, mostly because I had invested a lot of time getting her character leveled up.

Damn, I guess all of those typos are what I get for posting without previewing it first. Sorry.

Has to be Worms World Party for the PC. No contest.
I still play that game whenever I get a chance.

Let's find out. What is your colony's name and current rank on the Colony site?
Type in "play" to enter the first screen.
Login to www.ourcolony.net with the password "PLAY". Then join our colony with the number "91589558".
The more people we have, the better chance we have of winning. Join the UC IT Colony today!
Sounds like we will have some interesting RPG's to look forward to. (At least as far as the "world" in which the games take place in)

I wonder why the cube isn't on the list. Seems like it should be.
