If UFC has shown us anything, it's that dependence on one single fight style is a death sentence. Kung Fu is a good workout, but is reduced to a fancy "dance" when your opponent actually steps in close enough to "grapple" with you. Israels Mossad has a pretty neat Mixed Martial Arts technique. But I'm not here to endorse a particular style. Mixed Martial Arts is exactly that, mixed. I'm sorry if the Shaolin Monks are worried that their style is losing it's generally accepted status as "most superior".
So, I've heard of Soundexchange but I don't know who they are and why we have to listen to them. What do they have to do with internet radio stations who play non-RIAA music. I ask that because I heard that they put the "squeeze" on everyone, no matter what they play. NPR has even been talking about them.
I'm not familiar with those two projects. In fact, I'm still very much a Linux newbie. I was actually thinking of something less fancy and possibly less elegant. I was thinking a virtual server on a Linux box running Windows. This would allow Windows centric IT to still use the Apps their familiar with (Exchange, AD), but force them to learn Linux in the process. The hope being that they would learn to appreciate Open Source solutions, and eventually make the switch.
Kind of an Embrace, Extend, Extinguish mindset, but from a Linux point of view (extinguishing MS).
We need Probes!!! Thousands of Probes, streaking across the cosmos, searching, observing, huge "shelf life". Manned space flight is nothing but an election day promise. Our standard mode of operation should be automated probes. It's cheaper, easier, and doesn't bring the whole process to a screeching halt when something blows up.
"...That's not how we built 100 million sales of [the] PlayStation 2, and that's not how we'll build 100 million in sales of [the] PlayStation 3."
If the PS3 hits 100 million in sales, I promise you Sony, I'll go out and buy two.
At first I was hoping this was a Consumer Reports report on Network Providers (Verizon, AT&T). I guess it's wishful thinking that this topic could break beyond the confines of tech media into the mainstream.
Is this going to be like a MS Flight Simulator NASA Edition? That would be pretty cool. It would be really neat to have the ability to perform modern and historical space missions. Docking with ISS, repairing Hubble, landing on the Moon. "I could drive on the Moon in my Lunar Rover." - obligatory Brian Regan reference
I like Google software a lot, but I'm not going to listen to Ad's prior to making a call. That's why I pay money for HBO, Tivo, DVD's, CD's (sometimes) etc...
I will try this out, because I did increase the amount of RAM to 2GB. I also customized both systems throughly (Apple and Dell) to very "high-end" (high-end to me that is) but comparable systems. I modified the graphics card, HD, and possibly a few other features to make my customized system. Does anybody know if it's Apples customized upgrades that push the cost of their systems way up, while base systems stay consistent with other manufactures?
It wasn't 2004, it was aprox 3 months ago. While I can't account for the "metal touch" that your so fond of, what other pieces of hardware does the Macbook Pro have that I can't get with a dell or replace with something better? I like Mac's and their design, but is it worth an extra $1000?

I like Mac's and OS X, but your statement that Apple hardware costs the same as PC's is just not true (in my experience). When looking for a very nice 17' laptop, I went to Apple and Dell for a Mac book Pro and 17'inch Inspiron. After building a 17'inch laptop on each (with specs as close as I could get them and usually favoring Dell when no direct match was available), the Mac book Pro was roughly $1000 more then the Dell. Don't get me wrong, the Apple looked great. Now, I'm not familiar with every Mac form factor, but from my experience Apples seem to be more expensive.
I guess that along with "Happy Birthday to you...", this DNA decoded musical masterpiece won't be played at TGI Fridays either. And it's a good thing too. I can't imagine the amount of revenue, the rightful owners of these two pieces, would lose if either of these two songs entered the public domain. WHEW...It's a good thing we have such wonderful copyright laws protecting the owners of these two fine pieces of...ARE THEY EVEN REAL FRICKEN SONGS?
I still haven't figured this out. iPods without a replacable battery is bad enough. They are cheaper and I would hazard a guess that they are not used/charged as much. I will not pay $600 for a phone if the battery is not replacable for a reasonable price....It does looks hot though
I was thinking the same thing. The product look great, but is the non-replacable battery carried over from the iPod? No comment on whether the $600 dollar price tag will keep people away, or the tough screen/scratch screen. iPods are expensive and scratch prone, and they seem to sell... but having to buy a whole new phone because the battery no longer holds a charge might actually keep people away....Who knows? The phone does look hot though. Did anyone catch the stock market? WOW!
This is the best news I've heard for Desktop Linux. Now if we can just convince the Linux community that a dumbed down/standardized version is a good and worthwhile distribution to develop (for my grandmother).
I'm a recently born again Christain man and I'm so supprised at how much I didn't know. I was loosely raised in a Christian family, my mother took us to church as kids. My understanding was very shallow though. Mom never talked to us about God, nore did the church services ever seem to get too far from basic/shallow teachings. As a result, I was very conflicted about God and faith up until roughly my mid-twenties. At the time, I couldn't see any difference between Christianity and other religions, so how could I objectively pick one and dedicate my life and soul to it? Well, after some pretty amazing events over the years, I now realize that there are differences. Being a Christian has strightened out my life in ways I never thought possible.
I'm sorry someone told you that because your an athiest, your incapable of morallity, that was mean and insensative. I do understand the Christian's point, but he/she shouldn't have said that. My advice to anyone on Slashdot who feels angst towards Christians and their points of view is to seek them out. Call them out on their hippocracy to their face. Some will get very mad and an argument will probably result. Some however will probably feel inclined to rationally discuss their points of view. You know you've got a real winner Christian when he/she isn't so interested in telling his story, but more interested in yours. On the flip side of that, ask them why they love God and Jesus, it might be a better story then "My parents raised me that way".

Even better, Windows on an Open-source platform.
Self-replication??? I'd be happy if we kept them from slamming into Mars, not releasing their parachute, burning up, blowing up, ...etc.

I agree with where your heart is. But I don't believe the law makes (or read "is supposed to make") a distinction between "us" and "them".
While I do see a slight difference, his point is taken.
