What you do is you formulate a theory, some of it based on experimentation, a lot of it mathematical models, you make predictions and then you go to your telescopes and attempt to assess whether the predictions are correct or not. You're understanding of science is about that of a five year old.

You can blame it on narcissism, on hipster doofuses or whatever you like, but while Apple's market share on those devices is going through the roof, and on Google's side where Android is showing up everywhere, Microsoft is still month's away from an OS that will run reasonably well on tablets and other such devices. Microsoft is literally two years behind Apple and Google, and if this follows the same trend as Microsoft's other attempts to get into the mobile market, they'll be left with the best mobile OS that runs on a PC.
I don't think Microsoft is going anywhere. The Office-Exchange beast dominates in the corporate world, but let's face it, as the PC fades in importance as a consumer device, Microsoft has a serious problem, and in the mobile/device world of smartphones and tablets, it does not have the dominance that it used in the late 1980s and early 1990s to become the powerhouse it is now. And as those devices get embedded more and more in the corporate world, there's a trojan horse waiting.
It's all well and good that Microsoft is going to start innovating. The problem is that they're probably five or six years too late, and are saddled with all kinds of pointless cruft like the XBox division. If Microsoft can't regain some ground, Ballmer's time will be seen as a long period of stagnation. It doesn't matter how much Microsoft Research cranks out if the marketing boys lack the imagination to see its application.

Following the exploration of the Higgs particle, I've going to Professor Matt Strassler's blog http://profmattstrassler.com/ where he has gone over a good many of the issues in reasonably easy to follow language. Since he's at CERN, he's well placed to write sensible articles on the matter.
Frankly, I'd love to see a competition where athletes use whatever enhancements they can. Pump yourself up with drugs, get blood transfusions from fifty people before you start the race, bring on the cyborgs an eunuchs! No holds barred.

If marriage isn't a right then why were mixed race marriage bans overturned? Equal protection before the law means just that. You cannot deprive one group of the privileges of another.
Federal hate crime laws were the only way black populations could be protected in many states. It may not be an ideal situation but they have served a powerful aim; to assure justice for minorities when local authorities have been quite happy to look the other way.

We can only dictate those things we feel right in the present. We cannot guarantee anything into the future. Even a constitution itself may be amended or replaced, so putting such notions into the bedrock of the law would not deliver what you wanted on any particularly right.

Last time I checked foreign nationals lawfully in the US are protected by the 1st Amendment as well.
