Sounds like your cooling sucks, maybe you should try something like this. this is the one I use on my FX-8320E and while that normally isn't a hot chip but when I'm doing a ton of A/V work I'll use the Asus OCing tool that came with my board and even with the chip running full bore with 8 cores at 4Ghz it still keeps temps reasonable,IIRC the highest I ever got was 130F and without OC it stays a nice cool 80F according to the board sensors. To see how it performs with an Intel here is a review and as you can see it scored just 8 degrees higher than the huge Corsair H100.
I personally love it, its quiet, easy to install, and works well.

A bit of advice for folks with aging parents who get "Win 10'd"...call the local repair shops in their area! We deal with aging customers all the time, many of us are more than happy to do house calls, and its a HELL of a lot easier for you to simply call the shop and say "Mom has got an issue, please fix it" than it is to spend who knows how many hours on the phone trying to walk somebody who doesn't know computers through a rollback. We can also set up an automated backup routine so if they click the wrong link or make a major mistake they won't lose everything, nothing will break your heart more than having to tell somebody those pics of a long dead relative they didn't have any copies of are gone forever because they didn't have backups.
So consider this a wakeup call, if your folks could have been "Win10'd" they could have gotten a LOT worse, call the local shops, compare rates, and have one set up a backup routine for them. Its a hell of a lot cheaper to just get a USB drive and have the local shop guy help them out than to find out they ended up getting ransomware or some other nasty.

They could pay for it. Of course we all know they wouldn't have bought it if they would have had to pay what it actually cost, but at least then Sony could have killed the whining dead.
Uhhh did you miss the you can remove all access to CMD and the OS is fine part? Try removing all access to Bash on Linux, you'll find the OS will not even boot, THAT is how badly Linux depends on something as old and creaky as CLI.
I'm sorry but until Linux can go 100% without the CLI and still have a perfectly functional OS, where you can do everything without restriction? Then its just not in the same league, sorry. CLI is really only good for 2 things, scripting repetitive tasks and remote administration....guess what home users and SMBs never have need of? What you want is Pale Moon which is FF without the bullshit, NO Australis, NO Pocket, and NO ending the extensions, in fact they've been reaching out to ext devs to get them to support PM which now has its own user agent string and the ones who don't they are compiling their own version.
I've been using them a couple years and its a rock solid dependable browser without the politics and crap, try it I bet you'll like it. Oh and before somebody asks they've recently added a Linux build which you can either get with the installer or through tarball, your choice.
They get added pretty quickly, usually within a week of FF adding them. Feel free to register on their forums and ask the dev team yourself such questions as I've asked many questions of the team and they are really a nice bunch of guys that are only too happy to answer questions from users.
But I can tell you the reason for PM existing is the same reason why so many of us got sick of FF, which is them adding and taking away shit willy nilly with zero fucks given for the user. PM is dedicated to keeping FF a nice fast pre Australis browser with extension support and a solid consistent UI and for me, a person that wants his browser to browse NOT be some hipster art project? That is enough for me.
But if you are truly worried about security any browser you use should be sandboxed automatically, the two I recommend for this task is SandboxIE if you only want to sandbox the browser and Comodo Internet Security if you want to be able to sandbox any program that runs without you expressly giving permission for it to run out the sandbox. With your browser sandboxed frankly it won't matter about the browser, it'll be locked away where it can do no harm.
You are VERY welcome. I can tell you its VERY solid, the UI stays consistent (pre Australis of course) and they are dedicated to keeping FF the way it WAS, with a sane design, extensions, the whole shebang, and have been for a couple years now. they have even gone so far as to set up their own sync servers so you can enjoy that functionality without PM being tied to the FF backend, very nice indeed.
A lot of my customers are SOHO and SMBs and they don't like this "change for change sake" BS so I went and tested browsers and found the ones that were the most solid and dependable. I've been handing out PaleMoon and Comodo Dragon, which is similar as far as consistency but Chromium based, for a couple years now and my customers? Nothing but happy with them both. I also practice what I preach and my own browsers are PaleMoon and Dragon and they've been rock solid and reliable, and I don't have to fear my UI getting shat upon if I update the thing. Both are great, give 'em a spin.
So switch to PaleMoon which has forked away from FF and has said they plan on keeping the extension framework, even going so far as to contact the extension devs to get them to support PM (which has its own UI string now) and they are compiling their own forks of the extensions that don't support PM.

Everything you do suddenly generates data that is sent back to the mothership DESPITE having privacy settings engaged. Turn on your webcam? I myself run an FX-8320E which I upgraded from a Phenom II X6 (which according to the lawsuit is a "full" core compared to mine) and the FX blows through transcodes and multieffects layering a good 40% faster than the P II X6. And if his BS was true how does he explain the fact that the 6350 and 1100T are equal in performance despite the fact that according to him its a triple core versus a hexacore?

Vista is EOLed in 2017 so I have to find an alternative for those users or start stocking up on Windows 8 boxes.

Then please leave the new start page and use it for any searches or click throughs to places like FB or Flicker as the devs get a couple cents for clicks which goes to keeping the team up and running. I personally have NO problem with an arrangement like this as it means I can keep my Adblock on and still support the team so I use it all the time, I hope others do as well to keep the project going strong.
As for the Linux build being a year old? I try my damnedest to avoid Linux (because I find it buggy as fuck) so I only recently came across it thanks to MSFT forcing me to try to find affordable alternatives to Windows "all ur data belong to us" 10 Spyware Edition being the only one you can actually purchase. Personally I'll probably be going to Windows 8.1 but most of my customers don't have the option and once Win 7 reaches EOL I'll have to have a functional alternative, hence why I'm looking at Linux software now, not to mention my Vista customers will be hitting EOL soon and I wouldn't wish Win 10 on my worst enemies.....well maybe the FOSSIes, because that would be funny, but otherwise no..
You honestly think they are gonna end the "free" upgrade? What I find funny as hell personally is they could have already reached their 1 billion goal if they simply allowed the pirates to become legit Win 10 users, did they do that? Nope it allows them to install then nags the fuck out of them for money until they roll back to their working pirate edition LOL!
What is even more sad is this Win 10 bullshit is making legit users go pirate as I've had several customers come in with the pirate version of Win 7 on their system DESPITE their laptop having a legit key on the bottom, why? Because when the Win 10 update either shat itself or the rolback didn't work they simply used the built in recovery partition and got their legit key marked as bad which would have meant dealing with a phone call to MSFT...or they could just download a Win 7 activator that fixes the problem in 2 seconds flat..../facepalm/.

Home run! Everybody is singing your praises and talking about how fucking great you are!
Instead you fill Win 10 so full of spyware any company that has to follow HIPPA or SOX will treat it like plague blankets and the rumors has home users treating it like a malware infection...sigh. What you want is Pale Moon which is FF without the bullshit, NO Australis, NO Pocket, and NO ending the extensions, in fact they've been reaching out to ext devs to get them to support PM which now has its own user agent string and the ones who don't they are compiling their own version.
I've been using them a couple years and its a rock solid dependable browser without the politics and crap, try it I bet you'll like it. Oh and before somebody asks they've recently added a Linux build which you can either get with the installer or through tarball, your choice.
They get added pretty quickly, usually within a week of FF adding them. Feel free to register on their forums and ask the dev team yourself such questions as I've asked many questions of the team and they are really a nice bunch of guys that are only too happy to answer questions from users.
But I can tell you the reason for PM existing is the same reason why so many of us got sick of FF, which is them adding and taking away shit willy nilly with zero fucks given for the user. PM is dedicated to keeping FF a nice fast pre Australis browser with extension support and a solid consistent UI and for me, a person that wants his browser to browse NOT be some hipster art project? That is enough for me.
But if you are truly worried about security any browser you use should be sandboxed automatically, the two I recommend for this task is SandboxIE if you only want to sandbox the browser and Comodo Internet Security if you want to be able to sandbox any program that runs without you expressly giving permission for it to run out the sandbox. With your browser sandboxed frankly it won't matter about the browser, it'll be locked away where it can do no harm.
You are VERY welcome. I can tell you its VERY solid, the UI stays consistent (pre Australis of course) and they are dedicated to keeping FF the way it WAS, with a sane design, extensions, the whole shebang, and have been for a couple years now. they have even gone so far as to set up their own sync servers so you can enjoy that functionality without PM being tied to the FF backend, very nice indeed.
A lot of my customers are SOHO and SMBs and they don't like this "change for change sake" BS so I went and tested browsers and found the ones that were the most solid and dependable. I've been handing out PaleMoon and Comodo Dragon, which is similar as far as consistency but Chromium based, for a couple years now and my customers? Nothing but happy with them both. I also practice what I preach and my own browsers are PaleMoon and Dragon and they've been rock solid and reliable, and I don't have to fear my UI getting shat upon if I update the thing. Both are great, give 'em a spin.
So switch to PaleMoon which has forked away from FF and has said they plan on keeping the extension framework, even going so far as to contact the extension devs to get them to support PM (which has its own UI string now) and they are compiling their own forks of the extensions that don't support PM.

Everything you do suddenly generates data that is sent back to the mothership DESPITE having privacy settings engaged. Turn on your webcam? Oh look it suddenly calls these addresses, turn on your mike? Different addresses are called, start typing? Yep, different addresses start getting data from your PC.
Sorry but I've only seen that kind of behavior at the shop on PCs that are infested with malware, so I guess that means Win 10 is pre-infested, huh?
I've had mine since the late 90s when I found out several sites already had somebody with my original handle which I had since the 80s, and most folks I know have likewise used the same handle for ages so I really don't see how you can confer anything by a handle other than maybe someone with a handle like "suxdeeznutzb1tch" is probably an asshole.

Sigh, does nobody know how the BD/PD arch works here? It CAN share the FPU but absolutely does NOT "have to". So each core DOES have an FPU, they simply used a simpler 128bit FPU that CAN be joined together to make a single 256bit FPU for use with AVX instructions and ya know what? The majority of users will NEVER NOTICE as every program and game Joe Average runs will run great on an AMD chip. I myself run an FX-8320E which I upgraded from a Phenom II X6 (which according to the lawsuit is a "full" core compared to mine) and the FX blows through transcodes and multieffects layering a good 40% faster than the P II X6. And if his BS was true how does he explain the fact that the 6350 and 1100T are equal in performance despite the fact that according to him its a triple core versus a hexacore?
