Exactly, I have nearly 200 games in my Steam library, I've played....maybe 12. Most of them I've downloaded once, backed them up to my external drive, and then promptly forgot about them because I don't have the hours to play them all.
This is the problem game devs are gonna find with more and more playing MMOs as once you've sunk some serious time into a MMO game you like? You have a limited amount of hours in the day and many will just go play the game they have already invested in.I keep buying games because I'll see something that looks interesting in a Humble Bundle or on a Steam sale but when it comes time to actually play it? i just end up going back to my MMO.
Sigh....see Gotham City Impostors as for why you can't run your own server. Cheaters were able to test the code on their own systems (because it works like the old school peering system where anybody can be server or client) and once they found code that would exploit reliably? They fucking MURDERED the game for everybody else because you had like a 1-5 chance of getting a cheating douchenozzle and since you never knew everyone just assumed there was cheaters in every match and the playerbase dried up and blew away.
And that is real nice that you and your friends have enough money for a shitload of gaming laptops and you all like Call of Dooky or Madden 2029, but I hate to break the news to ya but you are the 0.000000001% of gamers out there...why the fuck should the rest of us get shit on when you make desktop Linux users look like giants by comparison? And what if we don't WANT to play Call of Dooky or Team Flatulence II, what if we want to play niche games like simulations or flight games or RTS? The biggest player base for the game I like is central Europe...you gonna hand me the money to run a LAN cable across the Atlantic?
The VAST majority, we're talking 99.9999^%, have NO issues with the way multiplayer works now because IT JUST WORKS. No hassles, no spending hundreds of dollars and setting aside a room in your home for a LAN large enough to make a game worth playing (the average match in my game is 16v16, you got room in your house for a 32 player LAN? thought not), no having to play games we don't fucking want to play just because its whats popular with the plebs, and no worrying about cheating douchebags because they get quickly rooted out by the company running the game and get a nice permaban. Its all butt simple and "just works"...why should we give that up just for you? If there is enough of you someone will make and sell new games for you...but we both know that there simply aren't enough of you so you think you as the tiny minority should be able to tell the majority what we can have...fucking nice attitude you have there.
Cuz that is exactly what it sounds like, the system takes snapshots and then if an update or anything else borks it you can restore it to a point in time when it was working.
If that is the case then Kudos to the Mint team, I've been saying for years that if you want Linux to be usable to the masses its gonna have to be a hell of a lot easier for Joe and Jane Average to take care of basic tasks without having to read Man pages and learn CLI voodoo and having their own version of system restore is a good step in the right direction.

Have you tried Pale Moon? I use it and find it quite nice. The devs are quick to respond to user questions and bug reports, the forums are quite helpful, and they get more and more extension devs on board every day and already have most of the popular stuff like Adblock,Greasemonkey, and NoScript up and running. They also have a portable and a Linux build so you can run it anywhere.

As someone who has actually worked support I can guaran-damn-tee ya its trying to keep support staff that actually knows how to deal with that ancient shit is just too much of a royal PITA. With my cableco they charge a $60 fee but they always sent out a guy who tested the lines to insure it had a good signal, replaced any lines that were frayed or which wasn't testing into spec, he even called for a bucket truck and replaced the entire line from the apt to the pole because he found the line had several bad spots and was having signal drops.
So if they are charging the fee even if nobody comes out or if they had tested that address very recently? Yeah I can see getting pissed about that, but if they actually send out someone who actually runs tests and insures you get the service you pay for? Have you tried Pale Moon? I use it and find it quite nice. The devs are quick to respond to user questions and bug reports, the forums are quite helpful, and they get more and more extension devs on board every day and already have most of the popular stuff like Adblock,Greasemonkey, and NoScript up and running. They also have a portable and a Linux build so you can run it anywhere.

With the old non targeted ads I would be on a site like Slash looking at an article on hardware, therefor the ads would be something like this "Hey did ya know Newegg has a 50% off sale on power supplies? We are also having deals on HDDs and RAM if you are interested" and a lot of the time I would go "Really? Hmm that IS a damned good price" and I would end up going and grabbing me a spare PSU or adding some RAM to my PC. The ads made sense because if I'm reading articles on hardware hey, I might care about hardware and would like cheaper hardware...gee logic, what a concept!
Now lets compare this to the new targeted ads...I browse for a replacement battery for a customer's laptop and then for WEEKS I get "ZOMFG you want a new laptop? WE GOT NEW LAPTOPS PLEAZ BUY A LAPTOP"..no you reatrds, if I wanted a new laptop i would NOT be looking for a BATTERY for one I already have, would I? And it doesn't matter if I am looking at hardware or software or an article on OSes where LOGICALLY one would give me ads for those products, nope all I will see is "PLEZ GOD BUY OUR LAPTOPS!" which I have absolu-fucking-lutey ZERO interest in buying so they naturally get? Survey says...ZERO SALES!
So all I've seen so called "targeted advertising" do is drive sales right into the shitter, as with the old ads I would often see deals on exactly what I was looking for, and now? Now its back to the old days of email flyers from the likes of Newegg and Amazon where any ad driven sales come from because their targeted ads are for shit I looked for once WEEKS ago and have zero damned interest in buying, hell they often don't even have shit to do with what I was actually looking for, like when I searched for a new phone charger for my car and got a month of Samsung Galazy ads, did I fucking WANT a shitty Samsung phone? As someone who has actually worked support I can guaran-damn-tee ya its trying to keep support staff that actually knows how to deal with that ancient shit is just too much of a royal PITA. At the shop I worked at I was the only guy that still knew the old DOS/Win 3.x/Win9X OSes and software and you'd be amazed how much old industrial gear like CNCs are locked to some ancient version of DOS or Windows so if one of those companies came through the door? Suddenly everything I was doing had to be tossed to someone else who may or may not have a clue WTF I was working on because if we didn't do this? Yeah there simply wasn't anybody else that had a damned clue about dealing with that old shit.

Thanks for pointing out that just because "it had service" doesn't mean it was GOOD service,it makes sense to test the lines. With my cableco they charge a $60 fee but they always sent out a guy who tested the lines to insure it had a good signal, replaced any lines that were frayed or which wasn't testing into spec, he even called for a bucket truck and replaced the entire line from the apt to the pole because he found the line had several bad spots and was having signal drops.
So if they are charging the fee even if nobody comes out or if they had tested that address very recently? Yeah I can see getting pissed about that, but if they actually send out someone who actually runs tests and insures you get the service you pay for? I don't see that as an issue and its better to have everything check out than to be paying for service that is erratic.
