Kernel modules should be open-source (much the same way that people should be nicer to each other), but they won't likely be, at least for ages (just as with my example).
These things truly would be pure genius if only there were keyboard layouts for typists: a keyboard that could swap QWERTY for Dvorak or AZERTY would be a god-send in my household.
Judging by the quality of your average seeder on larger sites like IsoHunt, yes; BitTorrent usage is certainly gaining rapidly, if the asshole quotient is anything to judge by.
I'll stick to my private communities for now.:D
For one, you can use a good proxy to cache webpages that are constantly brought back up.
For two, you can use it to block out animated GIFs and flash game/ads that take so much bandwidth.
I hope this helps.
See, I think the parent was getting at the fact that "World's Elite" is a term that has never applied to Reporters, nor will it to Bloggers, because "World's Elite" is far different from "News Elite" or "Reporting Elite", as it applies to, well, the WORLD.
They're taking it slow enough to measure whether they're going to die or not. Imagine if after open-sourcing every single damn thing in a day they discovered that, say, people don't want to buy support from them anymore. They primarily want to survive. Go get mad at Microsoft instead or something now.
I don't understand the phrase "worse than flying". I've never found flying anything worse than passable, though admittedly I go on twenty-four hour straight road-trips, so perhaps I'm not your usual customer...
Can someone fill me in?
All the open source X11 clients I've seen are just noticably slower than their rivals on low-end systems, i.e. my systems. This is intolerable for me, even considering that X11 can work over the Internet out of the box. I'm still a huge Linux fan, but I've become a console-freak or just worked on Linux over ssh because of both the low speed and instability of Xorg and XFree86 alike.
Please don't bother refuting this on the grounds of Distro or WM; I'm hardly inexpereienced, as I've used X11 on Debian, Fedora, Mandrake, Gentoo, Ubuntu, Knoppix, and a few more, using TWM, FVWM, WindowMaker, {Flux,Black,Open}box, IceWM, Kwin (KDE), Metacity (Gnome), Enlightenment (Both E16 and E17), AfterStep, ratpoison, Ion, Xfwm (XFCE), et al. I've tried using a whole plethora of Xorg.conf files too, but I've never gotten satisfactory results even with minimal services and a tiny kernel. In fact, help would be appreciated...:(
Are you serious? I had random crashes, horribly hotkeys, and worse of all, the use of side-scrolling on my iBook was taken as bloody history back and forward. I'm loving this new version.
It must be pretty annoying. I can't think to count how many sites uses benign JS that lets you go back, or refresh the page, or open and close a screenshot in a new window.
As nice as this idea is, it would be kind of a Catch-22 on many Windows machines I've set up. My NIC doesn't work, so I can't get on the Internet: I can't get on the Internet, so I can't get my NIC to work.
Windows is actually fairly easy to customize for deployment itself. Microsoft provides some (undocumented?) tools that the sysadmin can use to 'slipstream' installers, registry keys, and support files onto a custom install CD.
In fact, entire communities have sprung up regarding just this: try Unattended XP for a general overview.
Really, who cares which distro is the best out of the box?
I've always felt that one of Linux's strengths the fact that it's super easy to customize and deploy in that very sort of homogenous environment.
Actually, you might be surprised how many common-folk use USB drives theses days. Not only are they becoming incredibly popular in college crowds (and I mean everyone; jocks, BofA students, and the rest), but I've got my own little anecdote to throw in. I volunteer as a projectionist guy at a local church, and because just one of the pastors is technically minded, he's spread the ease of USB drives through the whole upper echelons of the church as an alternative to getting me Powerpoints on floppies and CDs. They love it, and I love it.

CS is not exactly a bad career move, and I personal enjoy it.
It's their loss, really...

Sounds like it's high time for a font:// protocol to be devised. ...I keed, I keed!

I don't know, I've always had a taste for Dolphin in my tuna...
Has the court ruled that snuff films and porn are legal for minors, too?! I'm confused.
The GPL is slated to be completed alongside the GNU Hurd! Open source world rejoice!

Actually, he's mostly harmless.
Not to be too off-topic, but shouldn't that submitter's nickname be "Nom de clavier"? I hate Franglish with a passion.

"They've gone to plaid!"
:)
Sorry, I couldn't help but fix that.
As a database newb, may I ask what the problem with not distinguishing empty strings with NULLs is?

> What if it's the artist's intention of creating music that sounds slightly compressed? Think the compression as a sort of an instrument.
Phil Spector comes to mind...
