Lets not get on the number of users - just look at Apache and IIS. Which one did Code Red and Nimda and all the others run on? And which has more market share?
The beeb are normally pretty good with 'alternative mediums'. One example is Doctor Who. They had a website in it in the very first episode with one guy trying to find out who he was. They actually made the page up. As time went on and more things were mentioned they added more and more websites. They even had a ton of games to play and 'help' the doctor. Wikipedia has a link to them here.
So I really think they will have thought this through and it should be pretty good. Of course they outsourced their IT staff to Xansa so... well I can't contractually mention my thoughts on that!
Except in the UK where Blair wants a DNA database of everyone of course. Currently there are lots of innocent people who have had their DNA taken without their consent - 1,139,445 according to one report (out of 3,457,000 total samples). So what.. 60 million odd people in the UK? Call it 60 mill and 3 mill samples that is 5% of the population by my count. Since they only started this a few years back it shouldn't take too long to get everyone. Then all you need to do is demand DNA samples from all people entering the UK and we catch everyone who commits a crime.
Perhaps after that we could have a police unit to tracking people who may commit crimes in the future (again based on DNA of course). That means we could prevent crime altogether, and what a glorious place the UK will be.
(Note: I am being very sarcastic here. I am British and hate where the country is going, and am trying to leave because of it!)
The green visa waiver form says (all yes / no answers):
A. Do you have a communicable disease; physical or mental disorder; or are you a drug abuser or addict? B. (I'm paraphrasing as it's huge). Ever been arrested or convicted for an offense or crime involving moral turpitude or drugs; been arrested or convicted for two or more offenses totaling five years in prison; or been a drug trafficker; or are you seeking entry to engage in criminal or immoral activities? C. Have you ever been or are you now involved in espionage or sabotage; or in terrorist activities; or genocide; or between 1933 and 1945 were you involved, in any way, in persecutions with Nazi Germany or its allies? D. (Paraphrased) Looking for work or been kicked out of the US or tried to get in by fraud? E. Have you ever detained, retained or withheld custody of a child from a US citizen granted custody of the child. F. Have you ever been denied a US visa or entry into the US or had a US visa canceled? If yes: When?_____________ Where?____________ G. Have you ever asserted immunity from prosecution

WAIVER OF RIGHTS: I hereby waive any rights to review or appeal of an immigratiom officer's determination as to my admissibility, or to contest, other than on the basis of an application for asylum, any action in deportation
*tries to remember his advanced maths class he got kicked out of* Kinda. You have different types of infinity. Like a graph of x^2 / x which when taken to infinity is basically infinity over infinity, but the one on top is infinity squared so is bigger (yeah I know you can just divide it down).
As an aside, I was taught that any number divided by zero was infinity. Division is basically 'how many times do you have to take one from the other to reach zero'. So you have to take zero away an infinite number of times to reach zero.
They don't? Damn, next you'll tell me Santa doesn't exist and Microsoft don't make really good software and actually are just trying to take over the world...
Well considering there have been several examples of children being robbed by another child for their pokemon cards, why hasn't Jack gone off on one about them?
I always thought it was interesting. So you commit a crime and serve time. The justice system considers that you have been punished for this. So assuming everyone is happy with the justice system (no laughing now, please) then it shouldn't matter, because you have been punished.
As everyone seems to think it matters then this means the justice system doesn't work surely...
(just a thought... wonder what other people think)
I have this simple test: If people say they are a good driver they probably aren't. If they say they think they probably are but known sometimes they make mistakes they probably are a good driver.
I saw a program recently on discovery or somewhere about global dimming and they basically said that it was preventing global warming. They provided a bunch of stats about it. One of them was from around 9-11 where they said the temperature rose a degree in the few days afterwards when there was no flying. The planes were causing global dimming and preventing global warming.
This is (so they said) why global warming is happening a hell of a lot more now, because everyone is reducing CO2 emissions and thus reducing global dimming.
(after a quick google search) Looks like it was a BBC Horizon program, and here is a transcript of it.
Basically the repositories are all named after the version name - dapper. breezy and the like. In this case to upgrade from dapper to edgy you change your sources.list from dapper to edgy to pick up the upgrade.
This is what the sed is doing basically. It's a neat way of doing it, otherwise you could open the sources.list file and search / replace in GEDIT or other text editor

I'm a big privoxy fan to block 95% of ads automatically, and you can easily add new ones in. Yeah I know you can get adblock for firefox, but unless you use a proxy server you can't block it for ALL web traffic. And I doubt anyone uses just one browser (unless it's IE) because you always get some stupid site you must use that only works with IE. Yeah I do 99% of my surfing on firefox, but have IE4Linux on this machine just for the very odd page that demands the new flash or whatever.
But perhaps someone else will work that extra shift. I'm assuming that company isn't just letting people work for the hell of it, there must be the extra work available and someone else will probably do it (and lets not go down the whole 'but if everyone thinks someone else will do it' route). They will then get the extra cash to spend on something, which props the enconomy up by the same amount.
However if a foreign worker does it and sends the money 'back home' then that money is lost out of the countries economy. Although of course it props up the other country.
On a (semi-)related note. My father was reading Henry Fords biography and he (Ford, that is) said in it, if companies pay a good wage, then the employees have more cash to buy more stuff and that helps the economy out. In his case, his car workers spend more in other shops, which then hire more workers / pay more shifts which allow more of them to buy a new car which helps out the car manufacturers.
I still think the whole world is too obsessed over money, but I can't think of a good way around it. If we end money then you end up back in a feudal farming world... anyone got any good ideas on how to sort that out?
Lets not get on the number of users - just look at Apache and IIS. Which one did Code Red and Nimda and all the others run on? And which has more market share?
If it's still your first reading then no it doesn't count. You have to finish the book and re-read it for it to count :P
IANAL bla bla bla
But that would be considered 'new evidence' and would allow for a retrial I thought.

Therefore, these folks must be retarded
I'm just guessing you haven't dealt with councils / government departments in the UK then...
These are the same sort of people who told a company that welsh dragon sausages should be made of welsh dragons
Confirmation that you are also gay?
(I mean the commoner in your post and not you personally bky!)

Personally I use gold dust. It looks nice, feels nice and, just in case any Cybermen turn up, can be used as a weapon.
If they run electronic voting in Utah I think between us we could guarantee you a win...

Now you have me thinking of dead rising with all the pictures marked up as 'brutality' or 'erotica', kinda like this.
My understanding of UK law on this, it's legal to _listen_ to police radio, but illegal to _act_ on police radio.
:P
So if you listen, fine. If you listen and then drive to see the cops bust someone, that is illegal.
Of course I think I was told that by a cop when I was at school so we are going back... well a few years

Not on the phone if the Indian only spoke Hindi.
