Well lets take a real world example. In March 1982, Kennesaw town passed a law making EVERY household have to own a gun. Since then (well OK definitely until 2007 as that is when the article is written) "not a single resident has been involved in a fatal shooting - as a victim, attacker or defender" Go read - http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=55288
Actually the regulators in the UK care. They have this rule that goes something along the lines of, if you're not the company you can't mention it. Ads in the UK always say 'a leading competitor' because they can't mention the brand name. Several years back 'I can't believe it's not butter' was banned from advertising on television because it was not butter, but contained the word butter. This was changed though so they can advertise now though.
There was also the case of the Welsh Dragon sausages being told that as the sausages were not made from dragon meat they had to change the name.
If you were that person in that hypothetical situation I'd feel obliged to point and laugh at you for using MS for important stuff. But then I'm like that.
Didn't hotmail used to have some blurb in the EULA about anything sent through it was property of MS and you gave up any rights to it? Is that still there? Been years since I actually used a hotmail account (way too much spam getting past filters).
Did that ever get challenged in court and has anyone ever proved that EULAs and similar have any legal precedence? And has MS ever actually stolen someones stuff and then told them that they had agreed to it in the EULA?
But they do want to take your fingerprints to get a library book!
And no alas I'm not joking. The ID card they want to bring in will have a 'biometric' or two on it. They want you to have to show the ID card to gain access to public services, which the library would fall under. Go read the no2id page for more info if you want.
Wikipedia says it was a lake bed, as do many of the museums around in N/W Nevada. Basically all the lakes here now are used to be part of one big lake.
On a completely side note, I'm about 35 miles from where he took off. No I didn't hear a crash, or see a UFO (wrong side of Nevada for Area 51).
Who says apache isn't the most hacked webserver? I highly doubt IIS is ever hacked, IIS6 which has been out for 4 years only has 3 exploits come out of which 2 were from components that aren't even installed by default and the exploit that is actually in IIS has a rating of "not critical". Apache on the other has 10% of its known security holes unpatched. It also has 10 fold more holes than IIS. I'd take an educated guess and say apache is hacked way more than IIS so your example fails.
So looking at the IIS page (and I will admit I'm not going to spend more then 5 minutes on this), there were only moderate and low risk problems. This completely disagrees with their own short description of: Brett Moore has reported a vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Information Services, which can be exploited by malicious users to compromise a vulnerable system. and Amit Klein has reported a vulnerability in Microsoft Windows, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service).
A compromised system is only moderately at risk? I call bullshit on these stats just from that (and they do the same for Apache).
Oh, and "Results 1 - 10 of about 1,220,000 for iis hacked server. (0.08 seconds) ", OK I didn't find just IIS6 but are all those 1.2 million pages more then 4 years old?
Apparently not lol. Although now it's becoming clearer now you reminded me a bit more. The biggest thing I remember from the old C&C was the video footage you had from Cain and then Seth.
'Oh and congratulations on your promotion';) (yeah probably misquoted)
The bad guys _always_ get the better stuff (at least in all the games I can remember playing).
Let me think.... C&C (original) had the tesla towers on the bad guys, and the toughest tank. The good guys heaviest tank was the 'medium tank'. Dune 2 you had the deaths hand missile for the Harkonnen, and that gas rocket launcher for the Ordos (which the enemy AI didn't count a friendly tank taken over as an enemy and you could obliterate his base with I think two of the rocket launchers taking over a single enemy and a ton of time). I can't even remember what the Atreides special weapon was now? A bunch of fremen appear was it? Star Wars? Well the death star and star destroyers (if we're going Empire at War anyway). Force choke for all the kyle katarn stuff - was I the only person that took pleasure in force choke someone and move them over a cliff and drop them whilst they were still alive? Well I'm sure there are more but I'm going to completely geek out. I just spent the last five minutes reading the wiki entries on dark reign and total annihilation as I couldn't remember specific units...
They did silly little things with the CG. For example, at the end (trying to make this spoiler free) they had a set of bunny ears in the original shot, but changed it to real ears for the final film (or was that the other way around? Can't remember now). Instead of having to reshoot the scene they amended what they already had.
Yeah I was most upset when I got some booster shots. One of them (polio?) used to come on a sugar cube but now is a drop of foul tasting stuff on your tongue.
The main page says Latest news update: 8th June 2006 which is a little better but it looks like it's died in dev. No news on it for years. I think to get your Elite fix the closest game is probably Vegastrike (at least IMHO). Yeah I know we can do OOLite but I like buying new ships!

I hear Cory Doctorow has a prototype up and running...

I believe it is in the paragraph under the one that makes you Bill Gates' bitch, but I may be mistaken. All this stupid legalese is hard to read :P
IANAL bla bla bla.

But if we don't misquote it we can't prove girls are evil!
(if you haven't seen this one keep reading, else you can stop now)
Time = Money
Girls = Time x Money
=> Girls = Money x Money
Money = (square root) Evil
Money x Money = Evil
Therefore
Girls = Evil
You need revolving flags, like a James Bond car number plates. That'd fool 'em!
The first night Eurodisney opened they set off the fireworks. A nearby French army base surrendered to two passing German tourists.

Oooooh! I just thought of a cool 'invention'. A power cord that protects 100% against all vulnerabilities both known and unknown!
(Yes it's a broken cord)
Perhaps I should call it the iCord? Putting an 'i' in front of the word seems to be the in thing at the moment.
And don't worry, After I've made my fortune I'll make the cord open source so everyone can make their own iCords!
I used to live next door to a lady who was called Dee. Oddly enough, her mother was called Dee too!
HAH! I'd like to see you search and find that text! Mwahahahahaha!
Wait... does parent get a reply for this post? Oh shit.

There, fixed it for me!
I was bitching about this to my wife a few days ago and she said that she likes the previews *boggle*
Oh crap, she has a Slashdot account...
I'd take Slashdot troll comments over reality TV any day - at least some of the trolls can be mildly entertaining!

Try the greasemonkey script to remove all the crap ;)
Then don't stop at red lights!
Really some people just don't think the problems through...
Only one. Oh wait you said libraries of congress. I missed the first two words there...

Yuk
In theory Elite 4 is under development now with David Braben, however the bottom line © 2000,2001 Frontier Developments Ltd. All Rights Reserved has me a little worried.
