  2. Hidden Psychology on Google Introduces, Then Scraps, Bing-Style Background Images · · Score: 2, Interesting

what I believe is, Google did this on purpose to encourage people to complain.
what this mean is 2 fold; 1. google gets in the news about a change to their site, people go to the site to check it out and complain.. 2. site gets returned to normal, people feel relaxed and happy its back and then googles some more, by doing this google refreshes its image as a simple search engine, because people still have in their minds, OMG how could you change this... boosts profits of advertising and encourages loyalty.

People complaining about google doesn't mean much to them, especially with something minor such as changing a background. but have 20 million people see this and then realise its gone will bring (if only temporary) a sign of relief. think of it as a carrot process, you entice users by showing something they dislike and then reward them when they find something they like, it makes the users feel accomplished and feel more part of the process.

now think of when those people are relieved they will then make use of this new fancy search engine they helped make.... even if it is an illusion.

remember they arent just IT techs at google, they have psychologists too.

Internet; they wont be able to shut down the internet because they would then censor the parliament parties website, a big no no,media would have a field day, it would be political suicide for anyone who does this.

The sony CPU architecture has it right with all its security and obsecurity.
untilize hardware keys, rom hash checking with redundancies, un-erasable logs of system access.
while 100% secure isnt possible with something as public as this, it will prevent more fake votes than paper methods.
include an electronic vote stored digitally on an encrypted flash drive (PGP maybe or with the decryption key stored somewhere else?), one vote sent to a db server (say used for media) and one printed to a spool ( a roll of paper, shows the constant stream of votes, if torn would indicate tampering at a certain point, usually stuff printed on it, time code, voted for, machine code...) then the spool is sent to the counting station, numbers are then recorded and compared to both the db (with lower priority) and the flash drive, no one knowing the true numbers (passive request; send the numbers, compares and flags a different station about the inconsistencies)
Software would be loaded through chips, which are verified on the day and destroyed 3 months after the election, giving time to audit the chips and election results.
now as always there are links in the chain but with oversight and dual process, this can be avoided to provide the most accurate vote.

i do encourage people to discuss and find flaws and provide solutions, as the more minds on this the more likely something might be developed.

the poor internet is getting old and having a hard time dealing with spam, but its coping, i remember a while ago they said the internet will collapse under all the media streaming, well its still here; again when all the IPv4 addresses run out, people will move to IPv6 with maybe a slight inconvenience, but until IPv6, DNSSEC, DKIM, SPF is implemented we have to deal with outdated technology, and lazy people.

Technology these days allows routing pretty much through a toaster, many courts have said (not US) that an IP address is NOT an identifiable piece of information, some other courts also have rules that IP and any personal information should remain private unless court ordered to do so. So in turn they would need to get 20,000 court orders for identifying names, and then 20,000 summons .... tying up courts for small matters of downloading (compared to murder, fraud and assault), also considering proxies, TOR, encrypted traffic, peer blocking there are so many ways technology overcomes this "tracking" that if taken to court the burned of proof, potential for technical flaws and other aspects will make most cases moot.

I can see many judges just dismissing these cases just cause of the shear number of them. The industry may look at the numbers and think ok 20,000 people = $20 million in revenue, they dont think ahead and consider the social and legal implications.

there are differences between an internet bank transfer and a wire transfer. Internet banking transfers can only transfer to a bank within the country of origin, the Wire transfer is used for international banks, where there is more overhead processing, therefore is usually a set fee or a percentage of the transfer. In Australia the wire transfer fee is $30 (CBA) and that was transferring $7k

a majority of people use paypal because its easy, there are protections in place (when they feel like protecting you) and its a trusted platform (you dont have to give your credit card details out to every company you deal with)
If you rely on paypal for an income your an idiot, as its been well established that any dispute or problem and your money gets held up for months. If your paying a coder you usually keep the money in a escrow account, paying for goods you usually use your credit card (but paying internationally with paypal is cheaper and easier). If i was a coder i would prefer the money to be in escrow (unless your a dodgy indian coder, which i have had my fair share of and refuse to hire anyone indian).
