I'm not sure what universe you live in, but the vast majority of those pirating materials on the Internet aren't doing so because of the lack of a well-thought-out legal distribution model.
And I'm not sure you're accurate on those figures. Its very easy to make broad generalizations and tar everyone with the same brush.
That said, would having a "well-thought out distribution model" ease things? I believe that it would. Even if you wouldn't stop the truly determined pirates, you would have a greater moral justification than you do today, where there is no proper distribution method. You could say, "At least we gave you an opportunity to have this legally. Since you insist on obtaining it illegally, we now have the right to punish you to the full extent of the law."
The power of.NET is that it provides the first alternative to Java for cross-platform applications. That said, I don't see why Microsoft isn't encouraging things like Mono. How does having more.NET developers hurt MSFT?
Both the Iliad and the Left Behind series are flat, somewhat boring stories with little character development, and lots of battle.
Judging by the popularity of the Left Behind series among people, both religious and secular, I can only imagine that the Iliad would have at least the same popularity.
PS: If you think the Iliad is boring, have you read the Ramayana?

Instead of dealing with them one at a time, we should take them on all at once. What could possibly go wrong?
Absolutely Nothing!!
Weren't you listening when GWB said, "Bring 'em on!"
Could you really imagine a world where corporations were allowed to market and sell devastatingly mind-altering drugs to anyone who wants to use them, even those that don't?
Even those who don't?? If you don't want to use something, don't buy it...
How long will it take for the WINE people to figure out what the check is that IE is making and code around it?
It seems that already have...
The reason that they don't code around the check is that it will lead to an "arms race" with Microsoft. Since MS has the offensive in this arms race (by virtue of making the first move, and by the fact that they own Windows), WINE cannot hope to win this particular fight.
Its not cowardice to retreat from an unwinnable battle.
Honestly, I liked X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter much more, especially with the Balance of Power expansion.
As I recall, the Viking landers used retro-rockets and they made it down just fine...

Wasps and ants are nature's garbage collection. They prevent objects implementing the "organic" interface from overflowing the stack.
I heard a quote once: "He who is wisest knows what he does not know."
This essay seems to be saying the same thing.
Or you could just run Linux (FC3, in my case). Then you get proper su, and a much more robust set of permissions to boot.
Great idea, except for the part where there isn't really a substitute for su. And no, "run as" doesn't count.
Also, most Windows apps expect the user to be Administrator, or they either won't run or will run half-assed.
Isn't 2006 the magic year for all vaporware? First Longhorn and now this...
How much you wanna bet that it will be pushed back, like Longhorn will be.
Ummm... VMWare is a real product though.
It sits right next to my brand new Amiga, whose operating system is based upon a release candidate of the Hurd kernel . . .
Upon which you are playing Duke Nukem Forever...
Logarithmic is y = ln(x), whereas parent is talking about y = n^x style growth...
At least in the US you get tasered rather than shot.

If you're not a geek, what are you doing at Slashdot?
Just admitting to using notepad on Slashdot should earn you some sort of award for bravery.
Except that time they catapulted through a Temporal Vortex left open by the Borg, who were going back in time to stop Warp development on Earth.
They stopped the Borg ship, but not before it had done damage to the dev. facility that had to be repaired.

Only in the sense that a running Model T is broken.
Let me bring the discussion back on topic be following a secant, then.
Hey, I take naps, and admit it you sometimes take naps too...
It says in the forum post that the windows version defaults to english.
Looks ok in Firefox though.
That's all that matters then...
