    if physicians would not lend their names or pens to these efforts, and publishers would not offer their presses, these publications could not exist.

    Why is it the publishers job to censor or police what people publish?

    i think the word being searched for here is ETHICS
    from the doctors hippocratic oath to the publisher who profits from the bogus journal. they are all culpable.

    maybe the publishers and doctors should have a disclaimer along the lines of-"the following may/may not be true. believe at your own peril."
    that wouldn't hurt sales or credibility...

    well, sort of. you are right that it has been 50 years. the US Army had been successful with portable nuclear power plants. from the 60's to the 70's they have used 2mW and 10mW power plants successfully (about halfway down for info )
    the russians are not unfamiliar with the concept it seems.
    PBS had a great documentary on how the US Army could set up and safely use portable nuclear power plants in the arctic, however no linkie could be found...

    as a person who took lithium for years, i would like to point the kind readers to Lithium toxicity. regular blood tests are highly recommended to prevent your blood from going toxic and killing your ass.
    while lithium bicarbonate worked well for me for several years, the side effects got worse and the drug became ineffective.
    the toxic levels for lithium are close to the therapeutic levels.

    well, it wouldn't be socializing, it would be nationalizing. there are some things that should be nationalized here in the US (e.g. power, telecoms,medicine).

    there is still room for private or corporate forms that do compete with nationalized institutions, such as the USPS vs. UPS, FedEx etc...

    i actually payed like $20 for it at bestbuy or comp usa. the first thing i tried was to do was get a working modem (i didnt know about winmodem problems back then-should have rtfm).

    and becuase i was too clueless to get that resolved-XP went back in to satisfy the then girlfriends chatroom obsession...

    i dont know why you got modded troll at all.
    there are some out there ideas (at the end "the world can only handle 2 billion people.") but the general theory is valid.
    in my opinion, copyright is the same thing as creating a monopoly on an idea.
    that in itself is ridiculous.
    if you want an idea all for yourself-don't publish it (in a book or a movie or in song etc.)
    i have to say that once an idea (read as Intellectual Property) is released into the wild, anyone has the chance to use, expound upon, derive, refine that idea.
    copyright is unnatural and harms society as a whole with its restrictiveness. it exists not to protect ideas but to protect profit (monetary profit that is).

    Oh, and the restriction mentioned would be to residents, not citizens. A US citizen living abroad would be restricted just like anyone else in their country of residence, while foreigners in the United States would not be.

    according to Ereader its your billing address of your credit card:

    as long as your credit card is resolving to the US/Canada or another non-restricted country you are in the clear.

    i agree with your first paragraph there and would like to add that w/o all the money grubbers/opportunists and such, the people who love to create/explore (music, literature, science etc) will always create. sort of separating the wheat from the chaff.

    i may be overgeneralizing(or naive) but dont most advancements in knowledge come from those who pursue out of love of a given subject than those with dollar signs in their eyes...

    just a thought...

    i can only tell you of my experience --

    i had bought Call of Duty:WarChest at Target. i was a happy little camper til i got home and went to install the game(s). lo and behold, there was a scratch across all three discs. i went right back to Target and after much restrained discussion(opened package-didnt want to replace defective product), i got them replaced. went back home to install the games and one of the three discs had a scratch. back to Target who told me i was out of luck and they insinuated i was up[ to no good(accused me of piracy). screw 'em right?!
    well, Activision did not want anything to do with my problem and told me to take it up with Target.

    you guessed it. went right to a p2p site and downloaded the hell out of that mother. never even thought twice about it.

    in a discussion on bias-my opinion on arianna huffington will be ah, well, biased.

    my reply was on the topic of using a biased descriptor to define something, and that using wikipedia as a source that could literally change overnight is just not good

    nowhere in my post did i mention what i thought of huffington because my opinion of her/her website is of no consequence.

    wikipedia, the source that anyone can edit is chock full of bias and in no way should be used as "fact".
    the use of "liberal" in that sentence is as a descriptor, which in and of itself is - biased.
