  1. Well, it was nice while it lasted on Microsoft and Yahoo Reach Deal · · Score: 0, Troll
I like yahoo because it returns relevant results, and isn't censored like google. MS's search has been a joke, ever since it started trying (though, they did try hard, for them...even searching their own KB database is easier/more relevant using google or yahoo). Yahoo's web search results, images, video I find are precisely what I am looking for without obtrusive advertising. I don't really like google, because its policy of Do No Evil (TM) has gone by the wayside in recent years. MS is more about showing obnoxious ads, archaic results, and letting companies pay them than actually providing accurate search results.

I guess like everything else these days, I have to go with the lesser of the standing evils. Google, I hate you, but, I must hate you less than Microsoft + Yahoo if I'm willing to switch.

I know I'm a bit late to the Marvell bashing party, but I had to say something.

A couple years ago when Asus first started puting Marvell network chips on their boards, every single one that I saw (I or friends bought) had a faulty NIC. The symptom? It was slow...paaaaainfully slow...definitely not 1Gbps. More in the range of 10Kbps. I called up suppliers and Asus directly...they all said to RMA the motherboard, no DOA replacement. Joy. So, spend a stupid amount of time to remove the board, live without a running PC for 2 weeks (!) and pay $30 or more for shipping for a $20 solution (put in an add-on NIC).

No one wanted to act in good faith...I guess I'm the stupid one, I still buy their crap.

I too despise the cutesy diamond layout for the cursor keys...I think that the numlock button should be abolished, having the number pad be dedicated (with parentheses and equals button included nearby). The number pad isn't just for accountants. I have always found the number pad very useful since I first used a computer. Number entry is far less efficient across the top of home row.

Whoever had the infantile idea of F-Lock needs another hole in their head. That's the most useless thing I've ever seen on a keyboard.

Indeed. The absence of Latin certainly has a real effect on a general understanding and comprehension of English. Is it a problem? Though I agree with you, it's relative, really. Perhaps for those who are disinterested in such things, it is not. Strictly speaking, the primary purpose of a language language is the (accurate) communication of ideas and information. As long as that occurs, it is effective. I believe one of the greatest strengths of language is that it's contextual and quite often subject to interpretation. This gives a listener the ability to decide the correct/intended interpretation (fascinatingly, my observation is that misinterpretations occur only rarely) regardless of actual grammatical correctness. You also have the much more interesting property of the technology which is to automatically retransmit any faulty data, and 100% guarantee the resultant file will be bitwise identical. Furthermore, you can have the clients automatically add any .torrent files found in a specified (remote, in your situation) directory.

You want the other one to get an ass-whoopin? Why? The accuser probably just thought it'd be a funny joke, or maybe intended for this girl to be hauled off to the principal's office...but do you really think "invasive strip search" was expected? I doubt it.

The only people that deserve an ass-whoopin are the ones that decided it was a good idea to strip a little girl of her clothes and her rights. It wasn't about illegal drugs...they were OTC, nothing even potentially wrong about them. Even if the girl *did* have illegal drugs in her underwear, that's one thing that anyone not in jail has the right to protect, without being punished for asserting that right. This was about personal degradation. Do you think they would have done that to the mayor's daughter? The police chief's daughter? No? (this isn't directed at you, the parent poster...it's directed at anyone on the planet that thinks this search was ok)...Then why is it ok for them to do it to her?

And yes, absolutely...children should know if they hide stuff in their underpants or bra, the school won't find them.

God. Yes, for pedants, even if there's a knife, gun or a nuclear weapon. If a kid has any of these in their underwear, there is a bigger problem...the parents (or legal guardian)...fix THAT problem first.

What would it have taken for the school to call the parents, and have the parents perform the search. AND...if the parents said no, then that's where it should stop.

Let's get back to sanity folks. Parents, teachers, police alike...This shit is out of control.
