  2. My hope on HD Transfer of Star Trek: TNG To Arrive This Year · · Score: 2

While George Lucas's tinkering has ruined Star Wars, there is one change I'd like to see them make to ST:TNG episodes as the series makes its way to HD. Whenever they're going to go on an away mission and Riker tells everyone to set phasers to stun, I'd like to see the camera cut to Worf, who raises his phaser next to his head pointing up, then glares at Riker as he presses the button several times in an exaggerated way to turn the setting down.

Wow, the box sets are a steal at $130 each. I paid $230 for the mono box set a year ago, and it was worth every penny. If you're buying one or both of the sets, just be sure to buy it directly from Amazon or another reputable seller—if you buy it from a seller on Amazon marketplace, ebay, or something like that, you'll almost certainly get a counterfeit set.

  4. Who's laughing now? on The Star Wars Christmas Special Still Exists · · Score: 5, Funny

Whenever I try to share some of my Malla and Lumpy centric Star Wars fanfic with people, they always turn me down and say something like, "The Star Wars Christmas Special doesn't exist, George Lucas even said so," or, "The events of the Christmas Special aren't canonical." Well, who's laughing now, fuckers?

  7. Re:Sloooooooo.....oooow on Must-Have Extensions for Thunderbird 2.0 · · Score: 1

Yeah, Thunderbird 2 was pretty slow on Windows XP for me too. Since I didn't notice any major improvements over version 1.5, I switched back. I did the same thing after trying Firefox 2 for awhile since it always wanted to open up javascript links in the same new tab instead of separate ones like with Firefox 1.5, and I couldn't figure out a way to change this. I was hoping that they'd fix this by the time they ended support for version 1.5 (April 24 - yesterday), but I checked the most recent version and they still haven't. Hopefully they'll update Thunderbird 2 so it's speedier before support for 1.5 ends in October.

  8. My biggest problems with 2.0 on Mozilla People Answer Firefox 2.0 Questions · · Score: 4, Interesting

I used Firefox 2.0 heavily for a week and then went back to 1.5 (1.5.0.8 currently). I liked the spellcheck feature, the improved file saving options, the built in search engine ordering, and it seemed slightly more stable than 1.5. But 2.0 seemed to usually use over 2x as much RAM as 1.5, a lot of useful controls seemed to disappear from the Options menu, and for some reason javascript "new window" links all open in the same tab instead of each in different tabs as with 1.5. Even after messing with Tab Mix Plus options for a while I couldn't find a way to change this. If these problems are fixed I'd gladly reupgrade.

  9. Dying, dying, dead? on Tivo Institutes 1 Year Service Contracts · · Score: 2, Insightful
I don't have a TiVo, but judging from the articles about TiVo that make it to /., I have to think that in any sane universe this would be the last straw, signaling the end of TiVo. So I guess the logical question is: How long till the FCC makes TiVo mandatory?

Also, what's the status of being able to skip over commercials? Is this still allowed or has it been significantly changed from the way it was originally? Might this new 12-month commitment presage an end to being able to skip commercials? (So that people can't end their service penalty-free when they realize one of the major functions of TiVo is no more).

And under what conditions can TiVo terminate your contract? Failure to pay your bill on time? Hacking the TiVo? Still having the recording of Janet's boob on it? Or what?
