The Arduino Mega line is already hard to home solder (not impossible but hard) so many people just throw in the Arduino as a whole. (They are even doing this with the DIP versions) This ARM is just the next step up.
The 'off' spacing is intentional, so you need to buy shields instead of make them yourself. You're better off with an arduino Nano if you want protoboard compatibility.
It all depends on how you measure. If you measure raw CPU power, then x86 is quite good. If you measure CPU power per Watt then ARM blows your mind compared to x86. (And the MPC860 even more, but that's a whole different puppy) It all depends on what you need. And I don't need a power hungry CPU in my phone.
I think it was George Lucas who survived a car crash because he was not wearing a seatbelt. Something with a tree ending up on the place of the driver and flying trough the windshield.
So not wearing seatbelts causes Starwars ep1-3. So you better wear them!
I've seen VB6 code that's pretty and maintainable. Doesn't mean it's not very easy to produce a stinking pile of shit with it. Same with Perl. I've only had the "honor" to debug a perl script once, and it made sure I never ever wanted to touch it again.
I have one of those crapware-filled laptops, with windows vista. Guess two wrongs do make a right, because I love it. All the crapware can be uninstalled with the normal uninstall dialog, and it's running smoothly. It's lightweight, and gets about 3 to 3:30 hours of battery life. And it was cheap because they wanted to get rid of it, Win7 was just released, so vista was no longer hip.
Which is exactly what Linus found as a problem. And I would have the same problem (still on gnome2 here), at any given time I have over 10 terminal windows open, spread over 4 desktops, and I open/close them all the time.
It's the LED overkill module, containing it's own microcontroller. The button module is $5, containing only a push button and a tiny LED. Still insanely expensive.
At $120 each, I have a 266Mhz ARM board on my desk (or I'm having 20 of the on my desk right now) with 1GB flash and 256MB ram. It's industrial temperature, and running linux.
When I saw doom, I could play doom. When I saw this, over a year ago, I had no possibility to run it on my machine. A year later I still see the same thing. It's like DNF until it delivers.
Worst offender remains the VR mode in Metal gear solid 2. You had a FPS mode, where you had to aim with the keyboard. (still loved the game, but that was just shitty console conversion)
I saw the exact same images/videos they are showing now a year ago, so you're safe. The main problem is, it's only static data, and the gaming world moved beyond static scenery when we noticed doors could open in wolvenstein 3D.
My mother. A lot. A whole lot more then I ever played diablo. (queue in the "your mother" jokes) But the "no offline" play will most likely mean that Blizzard won't see our money this time around. We have 2x Diablo II with exp, and no interest in online play.
I can understand the "do not mix offline/online chars" idea. But only offering "always online" as an option is stupid in that case. Give the option to play offline and mark that character as "invalid for online play". Guess I'll wait for the torrent. I wish they just released the god damn game, my mom is bugging me about it all the time. No, I'm not living in her basement or anywhere near her.
You forgot step 1, buy something that runs an Apple OS. And step 2, register at apple.
I didn't do step 1, I tried step 2 when the iPhone came out so I could take a peek at the developer documentation. But step 2 failed, even after countless emails with support. So I gave up. Happy Android user here.
I made a small Android app, which isn't finished and polished. I could load it on my phone without registration. But even better, I could put the APK file online, point other people to it, and they could install it. That's more open then "yes you can load whatever you want, if you run an Apple OS, register at X, download the SDK, install the SDK, compile the source, upload it to your phone"
But they have already brought change. They have shown digital data is not always safe, and that there is always an exposure risk. This has shown it's effects already in The Netherlands, where the public transport records are being kept for shorter periods now, and these records contain a lot of personal information, due to a new public transport system where you have a card which has your personal details linked to it.
I rather see that these records are not kept at all, and luckily they also have anonymous cards (which I have).
If you think minecraft is SO original then you are just one of the many people that think the same, and just haven't found the source of 'different' games.
Yes, minecraft creates an environment where you can decide what to do. So did Clonk up from version 3 or so. I'm not saying minecraft is bad, I'm just saying it got lucky. It's a combination that sells minecraft, luck is in that combination.

There are already loads and loads of invisible pink unicorn paintings everywhere, what more proof do you need?
Intel should just throw an arm core in there with the x86 core.
I say "wallpaper". Really, how awesome would that be!
Does that laptop weight about a kg?
As pointed out by Tim C, almost anything we do with mice is less cruel then what a cat does do a mouse when it catches it.

Atleast they filled the space with something useful this time around. Look at the W7, it's all empty space above and below the files...

A dictionary attack does wonders for your 3 word combination.

Which is the whole trick, this was shown off at least a year ago, it pops up now and then.
The tech precalculates a LOT, for that it needs static model information.

http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=11624.30 they talked about it last year.

But having your sources open for everyone to see is more open then need to use an Apple OS, and register to even view app developer documentation.
