Sorry to reply to my own, but seriously. Looking at only the stuff posted by BeauHD today:

DARPA Extreme DDOS Project Transforming Network Attack Mitigation
Microsoft Finds Legal Path To Launch Minecraft In China
A Third Of Cash Is Held By 5 US Tech Companies

Is there a tech/geek minded story in the list at all? It's all designed to generate outrage or tap into slashdot's groupthink.

  10. Too bad you can't kill the process. Even if you turn off cortana, the process will still be running. The only way to do it is to boot from a live linux cd and move the executable files for cortana. Problem with doing that is, it also breaks a bunch of other things like local search.

I think you're missing the point. Being, why is so much time and money and appreciation lavished on the "dumb jocks" and why are the smart kids discouraged from showing the same amount of enthusiasm for their accomplishments? It promotes stupidity over knowledge and intellect, hence, accelerating the downward trend in the education system in the USA.

Big difference between having the capability and the technology. Of course we have the technology to put a person on the moon. It's been done. The science and engineering is not hard. It's all about the cash. Without the funding, the capability does not exist. We could, with sufficient motivation, build a generation ship today. The technology exists. The motivation does not, so the capability does not.
