Reading through the comments, I notice two types of comments. Those complaining about the wrong date, and those asking questions. This isn't Ask Slashdot! If you have a question, then follow the link and ask. I be there will be people saying in a few days, "Where the hell is the answers from JWZ?"
I'd prefer to get one that didn't have fur on it. No one is going to come over to your house and be fooled by this. They know it's not real. I'd rather have a futuristic looking Aibo. If you have a pet robot, why try to hide the fact?
On a side note, I read an article in the paper a few months ago about a craft store that sold realistic looking cat statues. It was later found out some were made of real cat pelts. Maybe they'll try that.
I remember reading about this a long time ago. Basically, Scott Adams was grossed out by something and became a vegitarian. He couldn't find any good vegitarian foods out there, so he decided to make his own. No preservatives. I prefer Pizza Rolls myself.
If you actually had the ability to comprehend, then you would understand that I was stating that people probably read the same story on multiple sites, so what's the problem if they read something on Slashdot and Freshmeat?
OK, so maybe Freshmeat does post this stuff. Ask yourself, how many servers do you have in your company? Have many drives in the array? Redundancy is OK. If two sites do the same thing, then what's the harm? Slashdot reports on stuff that is on other news sites, but no one says, "Hey, News.com already posted this. Why don't I just check there?"
"Sun also makes Java, which is a poor language. Studies show that when IE trys to load certan java applets, it crashes. Obviously Sun is doing something wrong."
Integrates Grandpa's pacemaker into the OS. They can't untie the two.
Puts mayo on your sandwich, even when you specifically say, "No mayo!"
Assumes Pepsi == Coke
Not only does it not run older DOS applications, but also refuses to run older algorithms (e.g. Caesar Cipher).
BSOD color is off. It's now referred to as the Perrywinkle Screen of Death (PSOD).
Word (now integrated into OS, sorry, can't untie) replaces phrase, "Microsoft has poor quality control" with "Linux is insecure. Their kernel is specifically designed to give you herpes...."
But on the plus side: Notepad is unbundled from the OS, and now availble for only $99 from local retailers.
http://www.linuxone.net/flames.html. Your company asks for flames? If people constantly flame you, then perhaps you need better PR, not a form for them to try and win a T-shirt.
The page doesn't say what it syncs with. OK, the e-mail will probably sync with what's in my mail file. But what about the calendar? ical? gnomecal? Or the address book? In fact, do they even say that it syncs with a Linux workstation? It may be Linux on the PDA, but sync with Windows machines. Yes, it'd be really dumb of them not to support Linux, but don't go assuming that they do.
Other than that, really cool. Want one, but want to know what the price would be, blah blah blah
Bad idea. People could then delete anything that started dragging their karma down. It'd be better if people just thought before they posted. Or they'd have to figure out how to handle the moderation that was done to the comment after it's deleted.
Show us some proof and post the code here. Otherwise, you're just trolling for Karma points. If you post it here, News.com will pick up the story and you'll still get your glory.
CmdrTaco should give some users (such as Slashdot crew) the ability to instantly change posts to -2 score. Of course, give it to the wrong people and it would be abused. Only use it for posts like Q.
He talks about how online is so hostile and we're jerks. When you were in college, did you know any English major jerks or Aviation jerks? They're everywhere. It's not just technology. Ever have someone give you the finger while you were driving? Do you think they had a PhD (or a BS/BA for that matter)?
The other thing that bugs me about his article: "You might call this the John Rocker Syndrome"
Yeah Katz, John Rocker invented the concept of hating people who are different. I've never seen anything like that before, so I refer to it as a Rockerism. (sarcasm)
Uh. My message subject was in reference to my message. Since the discussion was about Transmeta, and I talked only about Pez, then my topic was Offtopic. Perhaps you should lighten up (and login).
Actually, mint flavor Pez isn't new. Peppermint was the original flavor of pez when they first came out as a replacement for smokers. The original dispensers didn't have cartoon heads, they looked like a cigarette lighter.
As for the electric dispensers, I had a circular one that I bought at K-mart, but it kept jamming and then it just quit working after about a week. We need Tux Pez dispensers.
Do you think that an average consumer version of linux needs to install various header files needed to compile new programs? You'd think the average user would just use.rpm and such for new software. Also, removing the unneeded daemons, such as telnet, FTP, NFS, etc would save on resources and protect against security. And perhaps an option to login easier (no password, just click a button or picture, based on the honor system).
Did anyone notice the size of the hole that the wires run through? I think I could stick my pinky finger in it. That's relatively large considering where it leads to. And what happens if someone pulls on those wires? If I were him, I'd have the wires laid in parallel under the skin of the skull and run to his hip. Kind of like that flat coax if you're running under carpet.
Is there a website out there that is a collection of drivers for Linux for all hardware (similar to www.windrivers.com? It seems that if something isn't supported out of the box, you have to search through alot of message boards to find drivers for the device. It's great when the company has the driver on their website, but if they don't support Linux, then it gets really tough.
The government might have problems selecting students for this. First, they need the best of the best. Alot of times, you could not find these people until after a year of college, and when students realize that they have excellent computer science skills, they will want to go to the private industry where they can make more money and pay off loans they took out rather than working for less at a government job. Yes, there will be people that want to work with the government, but I guess I just feel that if I have skills that can give me a comfortable salary and I can live without worry, I would take it.
NSI doesn't run stuff with a.co.uk suffix, so I don't think they would be able to do anything about it. Just one of those safe things about being outside the US.

Slashdot poll: Which snack food do you like best?

If you read the article, you'll notice that MS isn't aware of the existence of Linux.
(for the clueless, this is still "spot the sarcasm").
I'd just like to see on the page:
"Sun also makes Java, which is a poor language. Studies show that when IE trys to load certan java applets, it crashes. Obviously Sun is doing something wrong."

Anyone else who opted out, do you have these EXACT same numbers? Seems weird that my optout gives me random numbers....

It's too bad the article didn't have a picture, so here's a link to one. Just imagine those arms massaging your back....mmmmm.....
That's right, just when you thought that http://www.hamsterdance.com/ couldn't get anymore annoying, now it smells like a big hamster cage!

Now this takes out all the guesses of microwaving things that don't come with microwave instructions: forks, spoons, AOL CD's, and small rodents.
