    The competition/bidding you are talking about wouldn't have to be a one time thing.

    And while AMD doesn't have "magic" they do have competing technology that may put them in the lead.

    It would be really ironic - Microsoft's Xbox2 goes power PC but Apple goes X86? Something just doesn't feel right.

    In a corporate environment (or your home for that matter) you can set WinXP to have automatic updates, install automatically and restart the PC in the middle of the nigh if needed. Combine this with a product like Norton Internet Security that handles viruses and spyware, updating for both at night and running automatically and install firefox and you now have Windows system that the average user can use without maintenance for a year at a time. Linux may match one day but there is no way right now for the typical PC user, home or office.

    Is make Windows 2000 available without charge. Just about any Win98 machine can be upgraded to Win2000 and it's quite stable. The problem, of course, is that people would use it instead of XP.

    Why Europe only? Because Europe is where Microsoft is under the most anti-monopoly pressure so they cannot afford to pressure their "partners" like HP to be single vendor on operating systems... just a hunch.

    Previous generations may have objected to commercialism but we grew up on. I'd be surprised if every aspect of Star Wars didn't get commercialized. Besides the Yoda/Pepsi ads are funny.

    The business world runs on Microsoft so the kids need to learn it. I'm all for open source but high school is the place to prepare kids for the world today. The bright ones can always learn Linux too.

    Much of the power comes from the thousands of others who review the code aqnd find problems. Even more comes from the open source nature that makes addons and extensions possible to a greater extent.

    I'm sure this has some use at the low end but the PCs that most of us use are requiring more power not less. This article said an AGP slot is limited to 41.8 Watts. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/ati -powercons.html Even my older ATI 9800 pro needs additional power connector since it needs 45+ watts. Maybe they could make higher gauge netwrok cables? Maybe bring back Coax?

    Humor, yeah... I guess so. But I can't help the feeling that we (humanity) are consumed with short term problems and the problems with NASA and lack of interestfrom the general public may keep us from seeing the big picture... and in the long run - it's big picture stuff that makes for great advances.

    They may be able to takew some action based on that detection - like a variation on oil eating bacteria - that detect and then destroy the biohazard.

    There is already a Tiger computer and it trademarked. This seems a lot closer than "Tiger Direct" and should have a case if anybody does. But since Apples is software, I think that is enough different from being part of a vendor's name and from being a hardware name that Apple should be able to name their product Tiger. http://www.wilke-technology.com/html/produkte_tige r.html

    Tiger Direct may have been negotiating trying to work something out with Apple but failed and now they have run out of time.

    I dont know if it's funny but it's true.... OS2 was more or less written by Microsoft for IBM.

    How is this a battle for desktop search supremacy? I can't imagine someone selecting their operating system between Microsoft and Apple based on the built-in desktop searching. It seems to me there will be a winner for each platform and that may not be the same guys who make the OS. Google has stumbled a bit in their first effort but thats still where my money is.

    Exactly. Also, Dell knows their customer base. I work for an IT consulting firm and we get many of our customer specifying Dell only. They don't it for performance - they request Dell because they perceive Dell as consistent and reliable without paying extra. In the olden times there was a saying "Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM." Today you could say that about Dell and single sourcing the major name brand processor helps Dell maintain that way of thinking among their customers.

    There are two issues here: one is the age but the other is the man's job. When you are in any sort of authority position it becomes quite different to interface sexually. In this case he encouraged a minor to make and send child pornography , he sent pornography to someone he knew to be a minor and did this as a monitor for a children's only area. There are plenty of non-cyber parallels - for example, Professors often are not allowed to date their studehnts; jailers are not allowed to have sex with prisonser and high school teachers are often not allowed to even have lunch with a student outside of school.
