Follow this logical stream with me.
Joe sells monitors for $100. Sales are good, and everyone's happy. Then Joe's evil cousin, Brad, the lawmaker, who's mad because Joe stole his girl back in high school, passes a law stating that Joe must pay a $6 recycling fee for each monitor. Joe decides as a smart businessman, that he will RAISE his price to cover the fee, and prices go up for everyone.
The next year, Brad relents and says that the costumer must pay the $6. Guess what, you still pay $106! We ALWAYS get stuck with these fees, whether we know it or not, because these costs trickle down.

  9. Re:How about this? on Linux Radio Station Automation? · · Score: 2, Informative

FCC rules state that the annoucement has to be at the top of the hour, or as close as possible to that time, every hour. For example, if your song finishes at 09:59:47, you're golden. If it finishes at 10:01:05, you can fade the song out before the top of the hour, and play the ID. That works well with instrumentals, but not so good with the vocal stuff.

On the other hand, you can wait till the song is finished, and THEN play the ID. Problem is, if you're running satellite or rebroadcasting a larger or distant station, you're a slave to their timing. If their program starts at 1:00:00, then you almost have to fade the song before the top of the hour, before you cut back to the satellite feed.

But this is a high school FM station, and also, how many times do you do a side by side comparison of radio station quality. As long as the signal is clear, the difference between 128 and something higher is negligible.
My station runs songs ripped at 128 with no outstanding quality issues.

Try this laptop battery refresh article. I thought I needed a new battery on my T20, did this a couple of times, and now it works great!

In Win2K/XP, create a new power profile that doesn't ever turn the laptop off or suspend it. Save it as "Battery Refresh" or some other name so you don't inadvertently select it. (Also disable all warning messages). Then just unplug and walk away. Your laptop will run till it drops. Recharge without turning on the laptop. Repeat 2-3x for a REALLY dead battery if needed, cuz that'w what did it for me.

I was getting 20 minutes, at the most, out of my battery until I did this.
