If by may not be stellar, you mean something dragged from the deepest bowels of hell, then sure.
And who says government will be a monopoly? And if it is, it seems as though the places that want to do it are places you sacred private companies don't want to touch with a very long pole.
And, by the way, back on your private companies are always better, my 20+ years in the high tech industry chortles. I watched Prime, Digital, Data General and Wang all willfully destroy themselves. I watched Nortel go from a 120,000 employee company an afterthought in the blink of an eye. There's nothing magic about private companies.
"Ever work with a Federal agency with lots of money and full of people engaged in empire building?"
Ever work in a large telcom or computer company with lots of money and full of people engaged in empire building?
Cause I have and it's just as bad if not worse.
The difference you're missing is that Google, and even Amazon -produce- a ton of technology, do research, and create actually products. They don't simply use technology (largely built by other people) to create a glorified Want Advertiser.
"For development you need to set up the Zero with a power supply, mini-HDMI to HDMI adapter, HDMI cable, the USB OTG cable, USB hub, a keyboard, and possibly a mouse. After some hours of work you’re ready to try the software in your device.
How on god's green earth is that hours of work? How is that more than one, -possibly- two minutes at most? And if they get that so wrong, why would I listen to the rest of it?
First two programming jobs I had we're Pascal. I'm sure it's used far less now, but/something/ is keeping Delphi alive and supporting those astronomical price tags.
Some things don't require it. Serious. Do you require scientific evidence that if you let go of a rock suspended over your foot you're going to get hurt? If it makes you happier, I'd love to conduct a blind taste test, which I will get right EVERY SINGLE TIME. because you'd have to have literally lost ALL sense of taste to fail.
If you can't tell the difference in flavor between commercial strawberries or blueberries and fresh wild ones, then you're likely dead. Probably for more than 10 years.
Maybe you could, you know, stop posting as an anonymous coward before you go on this rant. It might make it slightly easier to impress people. Probably not though, given the rather lame content.
Eh. We're a nation of bed wetters at this point.
Ah, slashdot. Never change.
Muslim, or look Muslim (Sikh). Welcome to America!
No no, it's think of the /white/ children.

Heh. You think the megacorps wouldn't gun down unarmed black men in the street if the government wasn't there to do it for them?

Private companies are always better. Hell, look at Comcast!! Who could possibly complain about their stellar service?
Well...actually, the anonymous coward that the anonymous coward was responding to specifically /said/ they SHOULD be shot on sight.

That's exactly what I was wondering. How the hell is this a 'tech company'.

Lighten up, Francis.
I also loved Pascal. Getting the UCSD Pascal system for my first Apple II was a life changing event!

Actually, it's about ethics in game journalism.

Not without giving us our cut you don't.
Don't worry. At the rate they're going, they'll be up to 1.0 by 2030.
But 'SJW' isn't a stereotype? Right? Bro?
