  1. HarperCollins? on Murdoch Demands Kindle Users' Info · · Score: 1

    I was curious as to if he wanted buyer's info for HarperCollins books as well, but it doesn't look like any of them are available on the Kindle. I wonder that's some sort of sticking point in negotiations?

    Why do you work for such a firm? No better option? I think I'd feel rather guilty in such a position.
    And I don't recall Live originally having ads. In fact, I don't remember any ads at all on the Xbox 1.
    The most "brazen" example of in-game advertising I've seen is 1 vs. 100, but that's understandable as the game is "free" (besides the Live subscription). Although it remains to be seen if they will charge for the full version. Seeing as how they seem to be making the game more buggy as they release more builds, I have a feeling it may be in beta for a while yet. I'm also a bit confused and quite a bit annoyed by their advertising plan: run the same ads over and over again each half hour, and only add more ads from the same companies.;

    It's obvious that people can't decide what "brick" means. As I and I'm assuming the GP understand it, "brick" means to render a device completely inoperable, making it as useful as a brick. That is, it could not be recovered without at the very least opening it up, perhaps even requiring a chip to be reflashed using a separate programmer. Most people would either throw it out or send it in for repair.
    If it is recoverable through just software on the user's end like an iPhone restore, it's not bricked. That would be like saying deleting GRUB "bricks" a computer.

    I hate those 3D movies. Mainly because they look exactly the same as the 2D movies because I have amblyopia, but I have to wear the annoying glasses over my regular glasses. I went to see Up in 3D as everyone else I was going with wanted to. Last time I'm doing that, it takes a lot of the enjoyment out of the movie. I remember hearing these 3D TV shows being advertised as a kid and being confused as I thought everything was already in 3D.
    The local theater scheduled significantly more showings of the 3D version. I'm hoping the trend does not continue, so I can actually go watch and enjoy these movies with people.

    I can't find a clear answer as to what percentage of 360 owners have never connected to Live, but this suggests that it's around a third. I highly doubt they'd suddenly prevent one third of their userbase from playing games and dealing with those who buy the game anyway but can't play them just to stop piracy.
    And I don't see anyway this would be even possible with DVDs.

    You'd think it would be simple enough. Just HTTP, XML, and MP3. All of which is already used for UPnP streaming (although that's over UDP). But seeing as how this is Microsoft, they'll probably screw this up. It's unclear if Last.fm, Facebook, and MySpace are actually integrated with the dashboard or separate applications like Netflix. Probably the later, as I don't see any options to activate visualization.

    Well, there is a standard for media syncing, but it's developed by Microsoft and apparently not followed. Especially by Microsoft with their Zune, as they decided to ignore the standards they had created and sold to third-party developers in favor of something that only works with their software.
    Mass storage mode still seems to work better. Again, Microsoft will allow watching a video on the Xbox 360 from a mass storage device but not a MTP device.

    Pushing Daisies, Jericho, I'm sure other people could name many other shows.
    I'd argue that being able to watch shows in any order is a benefit, though. That way more people would be willing to jump in to a returning series. It also encourages a series to have a good plot in each episode rather than just overall.
